Pairs long.

Shame on the judges!!!!!
How on earth could S/S scored that high with such sloppy programs??? S/S and their coach were suprised themselves.
Z/Z should refuse to go to the award ceremony.

I'm not going to watch pair competition any more. What's the point to compete when the medal is already handed out before the competition starts. This is definitely a fixed result for gold.

Such a depressing result.

I disagree that S/S didn't deserve the win.

I sort of agree with that. I think their win is arguable
The point is their score: 6 point better than D/D and 68.77 in TES? Just 4 points behind their PB! I don't think that's fair...

For me, Pang and Tong skated best tonight, cleanest. Not being in the last group really hurt their PCS scores.

But sadly the judges don't like them anyway, and they really score above 186. So even in the final group I think they would have finished 5th or 4th at best.

I'm sill so angry over this outcome. I think I was actually yelling out loud when they announced S/S's scores. :(
I'm happy the Canadians at least medalled. That performance was outstanding. *loves*

sigh

I think it comes down to tech x components. S/S had MAJOR PROBLEMS on their SBS jumps, but everything else was ok, their coreography is head, shoulders and more above the others. Z/Z were on technically (I didn't catch the single axel...), but artistically ...

I actulally liked that the germans won, but that score was a f****** joke.

Do I need to say that I am extremely happy for D/D ???!!! they rocked

I disagree that S/S didn't deserve the win. Yes they stumbled out of a couple jumps but remember they were fully rotated. They were also more into their music tonight than they have been all season. They did all of the other major elements with no problems. Some posters are making it seem like they stumbled all over the place. Their throws and many other elements were all solid. The Zhangs were sloppy tonight and had absolutely no connection with the music whatsoever. They didn't seem to skate with the same speed as usual. She also singled her 2A. Their footwork was slow and clumsy, and they skated out their like two different individuals who happened to be out on the same patch of ice at the same time. D/D had the performance of the night but taking all things into consideration S/S deserved to be first.

Wrong, wrong, and more wrong.

There were several errors from the Germans, not just the jump problems and his fall. They were COMPLETELY out of sync on their SBS spins, even more so than Zhang/Zhang! As someone else pointed out, they messed up a lift and had a really noticably awkward dismount. I also felt that they had no connection to the music - probably because their music sucks - and that they let the fall affect their program. They seemed out of it completely after the fall and it was hard to watch.

At least Z/Z were mostly clean.

That is the issue with COP - it's part by part. If you judge element by element, the Germans weren't that bad. As a whole the program did not really mesh as it usually does. Choreographically and basic skating-wise, the Germans were still better, but the program was not cohesive as usual.

Protocols are up:
Side-by-side jumps
Apparently the Zhangs had 1A-3T and landed it awkwardly, there were just 3,51 points left. In contrast to that the 3T-3T sequence from S/S was fully rotated and they got 5,11 for it. Then the 3S of S/S was a fall, but also fully rotated so they got 1,5 for it - Z/Z got 3,95 for theirs (-1 GOE). That means that the sbs jumps just caused a difference of 1 point for the Zhangs - and this one point was easily made up by S/S.

Step and Spiral sequence

Zhangs got level 1 on their step sequence, level 3 on the spiral.
S/S got level 3 on their step sequence, level 4 on the spiral.

Spins
Zhangs got level 3 and level 4, more GOE for the sbs-spin.
S/S got both level 4, less GOE.
Zhangs got level 3 on death spiral, S/S got level 4.

Throws

Nearly same GOE, but S/S got the more difficult throw flip.

--> S/S deserved to be better then Z/Z. But the point is that neither of them deserved to be better then D/D. Z/Z had a performed bad, their sp was good yesterday, but today it wasn't good. They got 3 points more PCS then D/D. That is for me the real mistake here. That shouldn't have happened.

Hi
I am very happy for Dube and Davidson and their bronze.

I am appalled at the judging . I hope the German pair enjoyed the gift the judges gave them. It was a gift. I in no way blame them they only skate and go by the results. I am not a great technical wizard in skating and I am not saying that with all the other components of the sp and the lp the Germans should not have won the gold. But the score the judges gave for that long program full of errors was way out of line.

In my humble opinion they should have been given the lowest score possible in the lp but enough to still win the overall competition if the judges wanted them the winners. That would have a least looked respectable. The winners were stunned at the marks they got themselves in the kiss and cry . They could not believe it and neither could I.

Figure skating is not going to win credibility with judging like this

so happy for Dube and Davison!!!:clap: they were magic today...and one day they will become legendary.:) I'm happy S/S won too, but I wish they won with a much better skate.

kinda mixed with the S/S and Z/Z placements....though I agree for the most part that S/S were wacky overscored on the tech mark and thought they'd lost the gold for sure after the fall on the sbs. I'd be more outraged about the placements if Z/Z had skated better....but I didn't think their performance was exactly deserving of gold either.:ohwell: they were pretty much off tonight on both their sbs (which was unusual), and didn't have the same spark/artistry that they had in the short.

Beyond thrilled for Jess and Bryce!!! They had the skate of the night!!

So happy for Megan and Craig. Megan's from my home area, so... :) Seriously, w/the injury they were dealing w/, they've got nothing to be ashamed of w/their two skates in Sweden. WTG all three of Canada's teams for three top ten finishes!!

While I don't have a problem w/the Germans winning, they shouldn't have won w/those marks. For that sloppy skate...

Chalk up another result that needs explaining thanks to CoP to those who don't understand it.

S/S were overscored in TES, but as I said before when you consider all things they are the deserved winners, this is not a wuzrobed IMO. Z/Z deserved to be behind D/D too. P/T were maybe a little undermarked but as a poster said before they had some ur calls. Anyway, D/D def had the performance of the night and I'm glad for them.

Congrats to the Worlds 2008 Pairs medalists!!!

Zhang/Zhang should not attend the medal ceremony!
Shameful for S/S!!!

I'm very very mad. But I don't think it was S/S's fault. It was the judges and technical specialist's fault. Big one, no, two. S/S should not have obtained that high a score for the SP either.

Poor chinese skating federation, they never have the gut to stand behind their skaters.

And the COP proved to be a joke too. I watched the whole competition and the protocal just does not have any consistency when it comes to GOE and the PCS is more a myth.

I think, the real problem was that : NONE of the pairs did a performance which really deserved a World Champion title.

The judges gave it to the best pair during the season.
Everybody was confused, also the judges because of the overall quality (low).

Congrats to the medal winners. Happy for D/D. Did not watch the competition so I cannot really comment on S/S program. Sounds like they had some trouble.
