I've really missed his skating these last few years. What he could do on the blade remains unmatched.
i didn't choose my username for nothing...
I like many skaters these days but for other reasons than... skating HA !

I watched some of the Pre-Novice / Novice Challenge this weekend. Some very good performances and more than one Canadian record set in multiple disciplines. It is worth watching the podium skates in all disciplines and of course, watching Ted's great interviews with the gold medalists and their coaches. Some enlightening moments on how the coaches work with these kids. Hate to pick any favourites but Lia Cho from CalAlta (Pre-Novice gold) is a real charmer - such a great smile. And she landed a very nice triple flip in the short and free. Very excited to see how she progresses. Scott Davis is her coach.

I haven't watched but I did look at protocols. Lots of young athletes performed a variety of triple jumps, including harder ones. I mean, some got + 7 in bonus, that just shows at this point that the bonus points given to the novices doing triples is almost obsolete as many can do them.
It will be interesting to watch how these kids all develop.

I was reading an article during the Olympics where French CBC commentator Alain Goldberg was predicting the return of Canadian women in the world elite in about 10 years... saying that the current generation is good but didn't start with the harder jumps as young as the kids do nowadays... and that it may be possible for our younger athletes to acquire the tech content needed to be competitive when they grow up.
The same commentator praised Kaiya a lot during nationals. He thinks she may have harder tricks available to her considering how easy her tech content seems to be for her. Of course, we already know that Sara-Maude is training the triple axel already.

This is exciting... let's not forget that it took a while to have women doing 3-3 (pretty much Alaine Gabby and Kaetlyn were the first steady skaters doing it) and then now, 5 years later at Nationals, many Juniors and Seniors were doing them, and even a novice skater landed 3s-3t and 2a-3t in the LP.

See, I am back with my usual positive outlook :)

Yes. Great event. Lots of records.

Boys - the novice winner had some artistic flair. The pre-novice winner broke the Canadian record. I thought the novice men were the weakest. To me, this is the area Canada is showing some weakness in.
Girls - the winner of novice was okay. Scored 140+. To me, like you said, the highlight of the competition was Lia Cho…. She broke the record and reminds me of Kaiya. So much joy.

The most impressive bit, was the number of entries in all categories. Canada 🇨🇦 is looking solid to remain one of the four power nations in figure skating.

Piper and Paul have apparently w/d from 4CC. La Le have been added to the roster.
Although I am pleased to see the pink panther again (such a wonderful, exciting programme) and happy for La Le to get this assignment, it does worry me a bit that Piper and Paul remain out of the loop. I hope Piper is healing well, even if it takes a little longer. Their Evita programme is so beautiful and impressive.

I am not very surprised with the news... However, since until now, they had not w/d, I thought they were ready and was excited on their behalf. At the same time, they do not need to go to 4CC, especially if they are not 100%. I prefer seeing another team getting an opportunity they can make the most of, than seeing a Piper who is not perfectly able to do what she usually can do. Piper and Paul for worlds champions in late March :)

Sad news about Piper and Paul but better they not go if they are not ready. Hate for them to go and not be the top CAN team or not even medal - which is possible. That would not set them up well for worlds.

While I'm sort of bleeding emotionally inside, I hope recovery goes well and Piper and Paul will be ready for Worlds in March. My negative brain that has now more hate than love relationship with ID tries to remain hopeful.

Here are some P² photos I took during GP Espoo 2022 in last November. Here's to see them with force in March.
Also - let me know, if you're interested in posting some photos of Madeline and Keegan from GP Espoo 2022 :) (I know it's LATE)

I am going to 4CC and was looking forward to seeing G/P square off against C/B!

I can’t say I’m surprised, but of course her health comes first, and Laurialt/LeGac are delightful. They have first rate skills and great programs this year, not only the Pink Panther but an awesome Hawaiian/surf-themed exhibition number that I really enjoyed at Skate America.

I know you love La Le, so that's not too bad of an alternative for you. I am happy they are getting that assignment too. Honestly, I am not too sure the battle is between C/B and G/P... I don't personally have the same feeling as let's say, P/C versus V/M or V/M versus D/W... C/B and G/P offer such different styles and are very polarizing teams that I feel that the battle is between judges and tech specialists. :)

And then I was convinced I'm the only one who sees it this way lol.
Worlds (if P² will be there) will be majorly about who sits on tech panel plus composition of judges' panel imho, barring of course major mistakes on the ice.
(Besudes, I pretty much already lost any hope for P² Worlds gold, the Negative Nancy I am, so I will be just glad to see them in Saitama and making their best shot)
