Ladies Long Program

I believe this board is heavily North American, with most of us being US Americans, so I can understand what seems to be an overwhelming concern about our position next year.

So much also for Joannie having a shot at a medal. Hopefully she can stay in the top 5 or 6 but with Sarah and 3 Americans right behind her I'd say not! I'd say even with a great skate she's looking at 7th or 8th place here.

I'm US American and I'm nowhere close to going into cardiac arrest over it.

Well, I'm getting convinced the American team is jinxed...but if this does become a splatfest there's no telling who'll end up standing where. Particularly since Ashley isn't one to fall...it might just be her.

It just stinks because on any given day, we could put like 5 ladies in the top 10 at Worlds. It would just really stink to only have two spots next year. I know, I know, it's annoying to hear the complaints. Sorry for that, but I'm nervous.

The whining got on my nerves as well, sorry! Actually there are a whole lot of more (interesting!) skaters than just the US-girls ...

And there are so many good US girls who aren't yet eligible. That's what all these concerns are about.

I see this type of thinking as ignorant. You have no idea what skater from any given nation is going to continue to improve next season or what American skater may go into decline. It happens all the time! Nothing is a given in figure skating, except maybe Plushenko. The ice is very slippery! Who knows if these junior American phenoms will be another Michelle Kwan or Deanna Stellato. There is talent blooming all over the world!

;)Since those GOOD US ladies are so young, it wouldn't hurt them to wait one more year? I am sure 2010, US will get three spots.

I just think it's funny how the American Ladies overall fared better than what people originally thought, and now that their on the border, people and huffing and puffing for the worst.

Let's hope everyone skates well and see what happens.

Why is it ignorant? The poster said "could" not "would." "Could" is entirely possible.

I agree that nothing is certain, but sweeping the podium at Jr Worlds this year gives us an idea that maybe these ladies will do well in Seniors next year. I also can't count out ladies like Wagner and Meissner. All I'm saying is that the potential is definitely there, so it would be nice to have 3 spots next year. I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but it would be nice to get 3 ladies Worlds experience before an Olympic year.

Glad to hear that. That certainly wouldn't be good for your health and I wouldn't want that for a fellow Lambielophile.

:thumbsup::biggrin: Thanks Medusa . . . any fan of Lambiel is a friend of mine!

I agree to the extent that there is potential, but at first your comment came off as dismissing skaters from other nations. Success on the junior circuit does not guarantee success on the senior circuit. See Jenny Kirk and Andrei Griazev. I really like both, but they have had tough times at senior international competition after winning Jr. Worlds.

Okay - I am in my attic now, I get British Eurosport there. See you all in 2 hours - and I hope you get your three spots ;). Enjoy the competition. I cheer for everyone out there and hope that Mao gets this (despite being European - Kostner doesn't do it for me).

I'm American and all I hope for is that everyone skates great.

I'd much rather see a great competition with the US women off the podium than a bad competition with the US medalling.

I' m hoping to see great 3/3's perhaps some triple axels, great spins, no matter who does them.

Go everyone!
