Participation in 4CC: Did it help the performance at Worlds?

Because the dates of the competitions were relatively close to each other, I wonder how 4CC helped or intervened with preparation.

Some of the skaters who did well at 4CC didn't at Worlds, and vice versa.

Nerves?

Mao and Daisuke did better at 4CC than at Worlds. These two have had the nerve issue and I wonder how much 4CC helped them. Both looked relaxed and confident at 4CC. But I saw them still being nervous at Worlds despite (or because of?) the good outcomes at 4CC.

Joannie might have been better and at least medalled at 4CC. But the Worlds was a little bit dissaponting in that she couldn't skate to her full potential when she could have medalled.

Yukari said that not having a competition for a while made her more nervous. But she did well nonetheless.

Helped preparation?

Jeff did okay at Nationals and 4CC and was brilliant at Worlds. He addressed all the problems he had had.

vs.

Yukari surprised us by greatly improved programs at Worlds after not invited to 4CC. Johnny did well at Worlds after skipping 4CC.

Injuries?

Yuna skipped 4CC to recover from an injury.
Evan and Miki withdrew from Worlds due to injuries they got after 4CC. Mao also twisted her left ankle a few days after 4CC that took her a while to recover. I don't think that 4CC was a direct cause of injuries. But being tired from a competition might have indirectly contributed to getting injuries. Esp. Miki is injury prone in the first place and tends to get tired towards the end of the season. The timing of Mao's injury also seems to be telling something.

I think 4CC hurt everyone who went.

Maybe Evan would not have been injured if had stayed home.. he certainly would have had more time to recuperate if he had.

Mao, Joannie, Disukie all skated better at 4CC than at worlds. Athough it worked out okay for mao, as a whole I think putting in one perfect program in competition is easier than trying to do it back to back.

athough 4CC was fun for us viewers this year, I can bet that next year it will be almost entirely alternates.

I wouldn't be so sure. Won't 4CC's next season be in Vancouver, in the rink that will be used for the Olympics? I'd think the NA skaters would at least go because it isn't too far, and the rest might come just so they have a chance to see and skate in the rink they'll be competing in come 2010.

I agree. I'm sure plenty of skaters will want to take the opportunity to test out the venue. It would be a second go round there for the Canadian skaters.

Well, I don't think it hurt Buttle :) Perhaps the silver at 4CC was just the confidence boost he needed after loosing his Canadian title to Chan. Also, even if it didn't help V&M, it certainly didn't hurt them either.

Actually, I think it did help V&M. They were looking to up their PCS, and this gave them the chance to run their program in front of international judges one more time before the all-important Worlds. They also used the opportunity to change their costumes and see if that made a better impression. I'm also thinking V&M's enormous score at the end of 4CC's might have sent a message to other international judges that this is a top team, and should be judged accordingly.
