2023-24 British and Irish Figure Skating

Ok I kind of love the Rocky free dance 🤣 it has a nice mix of crowd pleasing whacky choreography and some softer moments

Phebe and James, I am a big Muse fan and I think they can pull it off 😄 I dont know what happened to their score, I'm sure it was announced at 94 but published 106 so maybe they got an invalidation overturned or it was a mistake?? They also got 3 deductions for timing related issues and I am tempted to send them a stopwatch omg.

High hopes of BIS sending 3 teams to Euros, a very solid 3rd from Layla and Liam with plenty of room for improvement.

In the juniors Ash n Atl continue to impress me, still only young with at least 2 more seasons in juniors and already showing wonderful versatility! The other two teams are also promising, there are 2 JGPs that don't have entry lists yet right? Am I right that Molly and Alessio don't have any spots? Sophia and Anthony had a twizzle disaster in the RD but its early days for them as a team and they had a much better free.

Here's a thread of some videos for those who may have missed https://twitter.com/icedancekorblog/status/1694753532032032933?s=20

No spots for Molly and Alessio yet afaik but wait and see... Perhaps they could also be named as subs?

Phebe and James have TERRIFIC lifts!

I don't think entries have been named for the last two JGP so there's hope for those maybe?

That crazy lift thing where Phebe was upside down with her hands on his boot!

Also forgot to say Mimi and Joseph look very nice together and have made some good progress (in my incredibly inexpert opinion), I'd love to know exactly how old they are. Hope they keep going!

Just so that you are aware, since the changes Musk made a month or two ago, those of us that are not on Twitter can no longer see other posts in a thread. We can only see the specific post that is being linked to. In this case, the order the segments are being held in.

But, away from that, isn't it a sorry state of affairs that fans in the UK have to go to a Korean page to get videos from our own domestic competitions. Is it any wonder figure skating is not a popular sport here if there isn't a page actually based in the British Isles where we can readily access videos of our skating stars?

Thanks so much - it was great to be able to watch these.

I really enjoyed all the teams - looking forward to Nationals even more now. I love Lilah and Lewis's choreography!

Wow really? He must have a real baby face I thought he was younger 🤣

link doesn't work for me, I can't seem to find them on ISU bios at all!

The reason the link doesn't work is that it is the new version of the ISU Results site that is secure (i.e. starting with https:// ). The old version of the ISU Results site is still unsecure (i.e. starting with http:// )

Don't worry @gleungc6, it's easy done. Especially when some browsers automatically add the "s" so as to redirect to a secure version, whether there is one or not.

Here is the address of their Bio on the old site:

And here is the address of their Bio on the new site:

Hope this helps

Wow you are way more computer literate than me - thanks 🤣

I definitely wouldn't say that!

More talking from bitter experience.

A few years ago, there were major problems when links to Entries / Results pages on the old site were mistakingly posted with the "s". And when you clicked them, you got a dangerous site warning. And people didn't know what to do.

I wish the ISU would close the old site and fully switch to the new site. When the new site launched, I expected them to set it up so that links to the old site automatically re-directed to the corresponding page on the new site. But, no, they are continuing to have both sites running in parallel.

Slightly off-topic, but I just have to post about there being a half-British winner in the first Junior GP of the season!!!

Rio Nakata (JPN), who was born in Cardiff to a British mother and a Japanese father, came back from third in the Short Programme to win the Free Skate and the overall title!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

True, there are far better James Bond film theme songs than the one he is using in his FS. But, at the end of the day, it is the skating that matters. And he was great!

This is his first international 🥇 Gold Medal, after winning two international 🥈 Silver Medals last season. He has previously been Japanese Champion at Intermediate Novice and Advanced Novice levels, as well as winning a number of other domestic competitions in Japan.

I took a real liking to this kid last season. He is a real star in the making.

So, keep an eye out for the little 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Welsh Dragon skating for 🇯🇵 Japan.

:cheer: LLONGYFARCHIADAU RIO!!! :cheer:

After resisting for years, I finally made a twitter/X account. It does not mean you have to post, which I have no intention of doing.

I did it when I read that Musk is not trying to get reluctant people to post, but to limit accounts that are "reading" hundreds of thousands or millions of posts a day and publishing bogus "analysis" of posts.

I am actually even less inclined now than I ever was to sign up for twitter, it scares me 🤣

Unfortunately it looks like Darya Dalgich is injured and has had to withdraw from JGP Linz. Alexa Severn is now listed instead. Best wishes to Darya, hopefully it's nothing too serious and she is able to get to another JGP.

I am looking forward to seeing how everyone gets on :)

Molly and Alsssio named to JGP PGE Gdansk
Edward Appleby
Alexa Severn
Lucy Hay/Kyle McLeod

New pairs team Zarah Wood/Alex Lapsky entered for the October qualifier apparently. How interesting!

Ya, what?! I'm preparing to make a Fan Fest for the twins. Now one of them is following Mum into Pairs?! 😲

I didn't see that one coming. At least not at that young a age. (Well, Zoe did leave it until rather later...)

So, what about Zinia? Any news about her?
