Chunichi Shinbun's Youtube Channel just released a 30-minute Interview with Shoma!

The video description:
The story of the popular manga "One Piece" on ice! All the top skaters will appear and play the familiar characters. Shoma Uno will be playing the role of Luffy, the main character, with all his might, just as he does in the competition. How did he express the stretching body of a rubber man? He also talked a lot about the episodes of his friends, including "Mura-kun," "Miyu-chan," and "Marin," who he knows very well.

Posted this on the OPOI thread but also here, some of the Netflix live-action One Piece actors were in Nagoya and they watched One Piece on Ice. And of course they took photos with the skaters! Shoma having a photo with Iñaki Godoy is a crossover I never expected... can you believe Shoma is 5 years older than Iñaki? Ahahahah.

Last OPOI shows today and it's finally the end of Shoma's off-season after...

Also, Shoma finally made his first appearance at the Honda sisters' Youtube channel, with Marin and her younger sister Miyu. Miyu squealing was definitely me when Shoma asked whether he should introduce himself as a figure skater or Marin's boyfriend, LOL.

I had the opportunity to watch the paid stream of One Piece on Ice yesterday and as a Shoma fan, it was really enjoyable. It's really amazing to see him skating in a different setting than the competitions and the usual ice shows, and while I never doubted his physicality on ice, seeing him play the role of Luffy in all the silly, emotional and intense scenes was a really new and amazing experience.

It was funny, because when the casting was announced, I was nervous about Shoma playing Luffy, because I think personality-wise they weren't that compatible? But then when I watched the full show, I realized Shoma actually fits Luffy a lot, not just because he has a similar life/career like a shonen anime protagonist with all the determination to keep fighting and never giving up, but also they both have this genuine openness in how they express themselves without playing it up or creating a character. Luffy is just so honest and straightforward with his emotions, very practical too, and Shoma is actually pretty similar off ice when you watch/read his interviews as well as on ice. Basically Luffy was perfect for Shoma to "act" without having to pretend too much ahahah 😆

And when it comes to the fight scenes on ice... I really do think no one can move on the ice like Shoma, and the role as Luffy is perfect in showcasing that unique physicality and his skating backed that up very solidly. Luffy's powers are the most difficult to see on ice, in my opinion, and he doesn't have cool swords or costumes, but Shoma brought in this extra dimension in his movements that makes it very easy to follow and believe in the fight scenes. He and Mura (as Crocodile) really got into it, the choreo was great, their fights really have a different "weight" . It's the perfect balance between the power that can be generated by skating but also the defined expressiveness of a static stage play.

Also to be shallow: Shoma looks really, really pretty in this show. He's both handsome and beautiful, which does enhance the experience of watching an anime adaptation on ice 😆

A softer Shoma when he greets the audience after the show:

And the new transitions out of 3A and 4T 😆

I'm really happy that he got this opportunity at this stage of his career. Usually, top Japanese skaters only get involved in this kind of big production with long training time after they are retired, so Shoma taking this chance while still preparing for his competitive season is a rare opportunity. I think he looks happy and refreshed to be able to take on a new challenge, and hopefully it helps him to deal with and/or avoid burnout that comes with competitions.

And it reminds me of the first summer I followed Shoma in 2018, that year he skated Great Spirit and Time After Time for the very first time, he led The ICE after Mao stopped skating in the show for the very first time, and he skated a collaboration program with Stephane for the very first time. And after all those years, Shoma still surprises me and find new things to do for the very first time. There was a behind-the-scene video at the end of the One Piece on Ice stream, and seeing him in the middle of the OPOI cast, being so present for them and with them when he's been so shy and avoidant of the spotlight in the other ice shows recently... I'm so happy to see that. He always finds his own way and it's been a pleasure to follow his journey as a fan.

Happy for you that you got to watch the livestream, rabidline. From the clips I saw from the various shows, I was most impressed with Sho's non-stop high energy level, his ability to BECOME Luffy, and some of those leaps he did (after the jumps) were unbelievable. He is so talented, and I admire the way he commits 100% to everything he does. He has such an incredible work ethic! It will be interesting to see what projects he takes on after this...Kenji Miyamoto is making quite a name for himself with his choreography endeavors. Very happy for him.

I know we have several people from this thread who saw the show live, and I'm hoping they will take the time to post some thoughts.

Love it! The Uno brothers showing off their cooking skills. OMG, Sho's intensity! Even when he squeezes a lemon, he has to give it 100%! :laugh2: REAL MEN COOK! BONUS: Emma giving him a dirty look as she thinks "So are you at least going to be home for a while now?!"
