I’m super thrilled to see how pairs pans out over the season. L/E and P/N I’m sure have a fire burning to get that third spot and ticket to worlds this year, but M/M are super driven so I’m sure they won’t make it an easy fight.

At the moment I see P/M and SD/D as the clear front runners and hope they both make GPF.

Article by Robert Brodie from High Performance Camp:
  • Roman withdrew from Cranberry Cup due to a high ankle sprain and will not be competing until Skate Canada. He only returned to the ice last week.
  • Lia will only be competing in pairs this season
  • Ben is excited for Worlds since it'll be at the Bell Centre and he's a Habs fan. Brooke's father is a Leafs fan.
  • Every time there's a round up for who will be Canada's next top man I get the America's Next Top Model theme stuck in my head

Well now we know what is up with Roman - doesn't sound good that he will not be competing until SCI.
Hope it works out for Lia and that it is not such a big change that it throws her off.

Looking at the JGP lady assignments it is nice that CAN has a good group of JR Ladies that are all at about the same level. But that also means no one gets a 2nd assignment, which is not good for their development. Would be nice if 1 or 2 got a 2nd assignment just to see how they improve from one event to the next - but then who do you drop from an assignment. Seems like a catch-22.

yeah, sad. But - it's a different preperation this time (his usual one extra comp is more than zero) and he then had troubles often. Maybe this helps him to shift focus and he can skate brilliant and SCI? 😅 wishful thinking maybe, but

So glad for them - but sometimes when a Jr CAN team does too well in their 1st event they get dumped in their 2nd event in favor of the favorites. It happened last year. ;-)
I feel it may be a bit difficult to dump Chloe and Brendan : they are solidly trained technically with Wing and Lowe. The quality is there for their elements. Even when they didn't get levels, they got good GOE. I think they can even improve on these scores with better levels.

The tech panel at this event seemed pretty strict as well, so I do think better levels would be achievable.

Does anyone know if the pair of Caidence Derenisky / Raine Eberl is competing this season? I remember them from Nationals. I really enjoyed their skating and also thought it was interesting they were from Saskatchewan since I don't recall too many skaters from there.

Derenisky/Eberl recently competed at Skate Ontario August Sectional Series, where they won over Schmitz/Taylor (the other Saskatchewan pair team). They're scheduled to compete at Autumn Classic.

Schmitz/Taylor are listed for John Nicks as seniors, although they are eligible to remain junior under the ISU age eligibility extension and competed in NextGen. They didn't get any JGP assignments, so that might have encouraged them to compete as seniors.

they competed at Ontario Sectionals 2 weeks ago and are entered for ACI

Maybe, that is why Skate Canada didn’t send her to events last year?

I wonder when she started training for Pairs 🤔 Surely, she must have been training pairs for more than a year…

Canadian Pairs is fascinating to me. After our winning Junior Pairs team taking the first JGP. We have Lia, Fiona Nic Nadeau and Gabbie Izzo switching to Pairs to represent Canada this Olympic Cycle. All these teams will be battling it out and pushing one another to greater heights.

I doubt it, after all, she was sent to Cranberry Cup this season.

To be honest, I have no idea why Fiona was not sent out to more competitions (including JGP) at the start of last season, as she was the reigning Jr Nats silver medalist and placed 4th at the Next Gen Competition (Maybe considered "too old and unpromising" to be a "worthwhile investment"?), but in the second half of the season she was unable to compete due to her having a fall in training which led to a concussion.
