Kazuki Tomono

Moreover, his commitment to the character has been amazing. I wanted to share this report from a One Piece fan (not a skating fan) who watched the show yesterday:
Koza! Koza was too cool! My personal MVP is Tomono-kun. I already liked him from the Yokohama repo, but when Koza appeared on stage, I instantly became a fan of Tomono-kun. Wait, that's so cool!

I'm sorry for being so meek, but let me be your fan. Let me follow your competitions too! He's such a cute, kind young man, but how can he move and look so serious? How can such a sweet-looking boy make such a sharp-eyed, fearless face...? Wasn't there a photo of him with one eyebrow raised and a scowl on his face, like a "huh"? I love that one.

My favourite Koza was there. It was Koza himself. Koza was there, believe me. I thought that Tomono-kun was able to portray him as a rebel whose original blunt kindness has gone silent, a charismatic leader with a lot of blood on his hands, a young man torn between patriotism and hatred to a painful degree. The fact that Koza's favourite food is yuba water really says it all... I'm glad Koza is Tomono-kun. Thank you, Tomono-kun, thank you, good people in charge of casting!

To illustrate this, I chose a couple of photos... the atmosphere and the look on his eyes are wild. He is indeed Koza!

Kazuki stepped out on his 3A yesterday evening - still, he landed 3 out of 4 attempts, not bad at all! I wonder if his mistake was connected to the fact that little Koza fell on his jump 😅

Here are a few cool pics of Kazuki/Koza:

I also liked this fan's report:
The blue scarf, the sunglasses that slipped off in the middle of the action last night, he didn't ignore them, he fixed them naturally as he performed, and he handled that heavy equipment as if it were a natural part of his character... but it was as if he was breathing the character of Koza himself. But whether that's possession or not, I don't know.
Because, although I can't say it well, I felt that the person inside was definitely there too. It wasn't so much that I felt like I was inhabiting a character from the original work that was different from my everyday appearance, but rather that I felt like Tomono-kun was interpreting the emotions and mental agility that I had picked up as a performer from the limited information available to him and spreading them out delicately on the ice in each scene.

This n That..Kazuki is still on the Kinki list..
Yeah honestly that surprised me... here's the entries list: https://www.jsfresults.com/non_responsive_toppage.htm?figure_top.htm,National/2023-2024/fs_j/block5/index.htm

He had said during All Osaka that he was not expected to participate, so I think he is likely to WD but maybe he decided to enter just in case he feels like doing it nearer the time. Schedule-wise, it'd be absolutely bonkers, but who knows? He loves smaller competitions, and it's Kazuki after all...

Speaking of 'bonkers schedule', yesterday (the day after OPOI) was his World Figure Skating magazine talkshow in Tokyo!

It seems it was an absolutely amazing event, from what I read he talked about his thoughts on other Japanese men (Sota, Koshiro, Yuma, Shun, Kao), answered questions, and they even showed some videos from his childhood and notes from his mother from that time 🥹 He also gave the souvenir (looks like a keychain + autographed photo) manually to each person there ❤️

I'm super jealous of everyone that was there LOL but also very happy for them, and very happy for Kazuki to be able to host an event like that - tickets weren't cheap, and it was held on a Monday night, and yet the auditorium was full with about 150 people! I really hope he can have more events like that in the future, maybe one in his hometown Osaka would be amazing too.

Also yesterday, he launched a whole new range of merch! It looks so cool, and as an avid coffee/tea drinker I would kill for that mug 😭 But I doubt they would be shipping overseas...

Some IG stories from yesterday! I absolutely adore the clip of him showing off the setup for his event, he looks so happy :love2:

There's also a new article today on Asahi Shinbum - it's a paid article but we can read the beginning, it seems it's about Kazuki's hobbies and how he started the sauna boom in team Japan lol There are some nice pics, too

I love that they have the two costumes there

I was able to watch the streamed performance of ONE PIECE on Ice, so I just want to share here a bit that Kazuki's entrance as Koza with the rebel skaters was one of my most favorite scenes in the show 😆 It was really good, both expression wise and skating wise, the effects were amazing and Kazuki even did a rockstar-worthy kneeslide during that sequence.

And also, I know Kazuki's not part of the main crew, but I think for the Alabasta story, his character is... kind of more important to the main plot than most of the Pirates? So he may not share a lot of ice time with the protagonist group, but in the scenes that he had, they were awesome and he was really great. Koza is a strong, powerful guy with a lot of rage about the situation of his country, and it's really nice to see a new side of the vast repertoire of Kazuki's performance range. I'm really glad he accepted to be in the show even though it may have cut into his training time and it was not for a Straw Hats crew role

Thank you so much for this report :love2: It's amazing that both Kazuki and Shoma played characters that are the complete opposite of their personalities and they both nailed it! (everyone else nailed it too, but these two stand out to me in when it comes to the contrast between their personalities IRL and the character)

I'm so happy that Kazuki's work as Koza worked so well, and I agree that Koza is a central character of the Alabasta arc! Although it can't be helped that the Strawhats get more attention, they are widely known and beloved characters. Overall, I'm really happy that Kazuki was invited to be part of this project.

Misha Ge is in Japan..per his Insta story..
Yes, I saw it too! I think we can assume he's going to spend some time with Kazuki, which is great! Hopefully he'll post some of their shenanigans, too ☺️

I hope we get some Google Drive footage from regionals  An article popped up at me yesterday on Yahoo, about some Japanese guy being sentenced to prison time for posting anime videos and spoilers on Youtube, and I have to say I'm starting to see why Japanese fans would be terrified to post any TV content on Youtube. The TV channels themselves want to monetize their content, making (almost) all of it for paying or subscribed customers who can read instructions in kanji... That's a lot of hassle to me, and I truly appreciate our kind souls on GS, who give us foreigners a chance to watch at least some competition videos. 🌹
ETA, I have seen your post, Kirara, about the likelihood of Kazuki WD from regionals as it's sandwiched between Nebelhorn and Japan Open. That would make sense, and I hope he does it. That schedule is too much IMO...
