I thought the CAS decision was the final ruling? How is the ROC allowed to file an appeal?
The CAS only decided on Kamila's punishment so far. ROC is appealing against the stripping of the gold.

And how long would that take to rule? Can this just end?The CAS only decided on Kamila's punishment so far. ROC is appealing against the stripping of the gold.
What a terrible choice! They were already given the lightest punishment possible in terms of the team medal, all other calculation methods would have resulted in them not getting a medal at all. I can't imagine they actually think they have a case here and how disappointing for all the athletes involved including the Russian figure skaters. The official statement of the ROC:
The Russian Olympic Committee will definitely appeal to CAS against the ISU's decision to redistribute the final places of the figure skaters' team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Our lawyers have already started preparing the necessary documents for filing an appeal.
We proceed from the fact that in accordance with the current, applicable ISU rules, the consequences of the decision on sanctions against an individual athlete, in this case Kamila Valieva, cannot be the basis for reviewing the results of a team tournament. Our legal position is based, among other things, on the existing precedents in CAS practice.

My conspiracy theory is that the ROC is only doing this so that the Canadian OC would look equally silly if they demand to redistribute the team event women's points, giving Canada the bronze.Yeah, another unwillingness to accept a generous compromise. I am not surprised.
And how long would that take to rule? Can this just end?
I love team events, they are fun, and give us more FS. I mean, if I can name one thing Russia does right, it's inventing great competitions for FS.I get that for the Americans this is an important topic, but honestly I would just let it go. Many athletes never get their deserved medals, and I think the whole team event was mostly invented because Russia wanted it. Off topic: In my eyes it should be done away with anyway, because figure skating is just not a team sport, you do not have a real team or even a relay.
I guess drinking glass theory didn't hold water. Now they want to have the cake and eat it too! From a camp where girls are scared to weigh one gram more?

There’s the grandpa water theory, the ice cream story, and the supposed dog theory. It’s ridiculous at this point. The whole behaviour from the Russian side is nothing but trolling.
Did they actually go with the defense that a girl from the Eteri camp ate cake on the eve of nationals? From a camp where girls are scared to weigh one gram more? After Eteri already gave an interview with the completely unbelievable ice cream story.
How is anyone supposed to believe that?
And they are complaining about four years?
And now they want to appeal the bronze?
Go ahead. Just go ahead. Dig it deeper.
Just don't expect your other athletes to come back to international competitions. But it's not like you care, right?
I am astonished they gave Russia the bronze. Any team competition I know of, one member cheats, the whole team is disqualified.
Surely her record will not stand--will it?Until someone breaks it.
ISU Statement - Decision of CAS - Kamila Valieva (ROC) - International Skating Union

USA gold
Japan silver
Russia bronze
In every team sport, the whole team wins, even those team members who contribute less. In professional sports, like baseball and football, some team members who see little or no action still get Super Bowl and World Series rings. What Canada... Now Vincent Zhou and Karen Chen will become Olympic champions. This is real justice. Come to the Olympics, completely fail everything - and get gold. A triumph of clean sport.
Well, it seems you dont know much.
In 2004 Athens Olympics US team got gold medal from the 4x400-meter relay, and Russia took silver.
But then Crystal Cox (US team member) was stripped of her gold medal after admitting to doping.
And guess what? IOC allow US team keep gold medals from that event, and leave Russian team with just silver.
That by the way is why Russia right now appealing ISU decision about medals here, if US can keep gold after that, then we also can.
In any team event when one member is caught doping, the entire team loses their medal and result - China should be 4th.
