Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try to have a ceremony. Sometimes, the symbolism does, in fact, matter.

How it feels when you get your reallocated Olympic gold medal in an airport food court-

“I parked the car and met an official outside Burger King at the airport. I got my gold medal and that was it. I’ll be an honest, I was an emotional competitor, but I was able to compartmentalise most things in my private life. With this I had a lot of anger and hurt. Winning a gold medal should be one of the most uplifting and gratifying moments of your life, but for many years I was left with loss and hurt. It made me angry and bitter, no Olympic champion should feel that.”

First of all Canada need to end this nonsense and let USA and Japan enjoy the medals they earned. Stop trying to delay this process. These are the ISU rules and Canada simply need to abide by them. Russia is no better demanding gold, but I think this is only in reaction into Canada demanding bronze.

For the ISU to change the rules now would make them a bigger joke than they currently are in some respects.

I'm starting to think Kamila kind of spilled her guts to CAS. This was the first opportunity WADA would have had to ask Kamila questions, and I'm guessing they asked all the questions RUSADA weren't willing to. Of course, Kamila would have asked honestly, she's a nice, honest, sincere girl. I guess we see in the coming weeks what the consequences of this are. WADA seem way too confident talking about support staff drugging skaters for it to be just their politics. Seems like they actually have something on them. Of course, could just be trying to bluff RUSADA. Team Tutberitze seem kind of chatty all of a sudden so let's see.
I hear what you are saying. But Team Canada was also severely affected by the Kamila situation. And USA was problematic years ago in the synchro swimming disaster where it wasn't about cheating it was about an obvious error and that took like a decade to resolve. That's when a judge clearly pushed a wrong button. In this situation there are no winners; I kind of in some ways feel Valieva is a victim too. YEs, I understand the pain and the lack of the full experience of winning gold. I am sorry for USA and Japan (and I guess Canada) who waited and waited. And here it was a clear drug violation unlike Salt Lake where if we sat down and looked at the then scoring system it is very possible Anton and Elena could have fairly beat the Canadians because the tie breaker was the artistic impression mark. But Canada and Russia both have grounds for an appeal. How good I don't know. If I were a Russian fan I would be at the very least seaking to reduce the sentence. Nothing can make up for the moment of winning a gold during the Olympics -mind you the Beijin Olympics were different with Covid protocols.

Slipchuk mentioned that many other Feds are in support of Skate Canada.
Slipchuk is lucky to have a job. His team isn't doing so well. An Olympic medal wouldn't hurt his sliding reputation. Though one would have thought Canada shouldn't be struggling so much as a team that a bronze inthe team event would be so hard to earn (and while Roman did skate in the absence of Keegan it just seems odd that two disastrous programs earns a bronze. It seems like being the oly favourite in singles ladies is not so great if you skate the team ie Evgenia and Yulia and now Kamilla. It is sad for everyone. These skaters train their hearts out. I understand the frustration of Japan and US but I canalmost guarantee had the skate been on the other foot the US would have appealed as well.

I mean maybe? does TAT know something we don't? https://fs-gossips.com/tatiana-tara...ild-this-seems-to-be-the-only-right-decision/

took 18 months to solve.... not decades. https://olympic.ca/team-canada/sylvie-fréchette/

I think what Canada is doing is quite embarrassing. Yes, Russia is demanding gold, but I think that is in reaction to Canada demanding bronze. Russia demanding gold hoping that the ISU won't have a moment of weakness and strip them of bronze.
*Checks notes* So Canada is responsible for the Russian Olympic Committee filing an appeal against the decision made by the ISU to demote Russia to the bronze medal in the team event by *checks notes again* announcing they will file an appeal after ROC did so first... How would that even work? :palmf:

Now they are also saying that WADA thinks that she was prescribed the medication for a heart condition caused by excessive training or something?

If so, why not get a TUE?
Meh. Grandpa water and cake didn't work so let's try something else. At this point, if CAS did what they did, there is no explanation that was given that was plausible and accepted. I trust the lawyers did all they could already.

Apparently it was just revealed that they told Valieva about the positive test the day of the team short but they let her skate anyway

I don't believe that for a second. Kamila skated the team event normally. If they told her anything, they would have said its a "false positive and already taken care of" because she skated normal for the team event and you could see the stress once the individual event started.

If ROC knew... then why in the world not have Sasha and Anna skate? I don't believe anyone knew until after Kamila had already skated.

I would like to see an official report document. Right now the rumor mill is spinning like crazy for clicks while the story is hot.

Although only briefly alluded to in the interview posted above, they [the US skaters in the Today show clip] said they would like to see a ceremony that they can enjoy with their teammates.
My overall impression of the segment was that the skaters' reactions were reserved (possibly except for Alexa Kinierim who did manage to say that she thought the U.S. team was worthy of the championship). No one did this:

Do you want to trust the system? Well then, first, look this system in the face:
kamilarr.jpg

It should be added that WADA committed gross violations against Valieva - she was interrogated without accompanying persons and without a lawyer, and information about a protected person was also disclosed, which led to a hysterical campaign in the media and attacks on Kamila on social networks. At the same time, WADA officials, instead of calling journalists to order, actually orchestrated this campaign, periodically making open accusations against Valieva, thereby putting pressure on the court.

This is how the “system” you propose to trust works. For one athlete - the law, punishment and, on top of punishment, also bullying in cyberspace, and for an athlete from a “good” country - kindness, understanding, leniency and forgiveness.
Sure, but although the process was bungled, with the help of Russian officials and with the lab they are blaming for slowness, we finally have an outcome, based on the rules and the systems in place. It should not have taken two years, but at least they did not come back with a bs decision trying to cover everything up with the former notorious 'slaps on the wrist' approach to punishment. It will also take a bit more time for the dust to settle, and to see long-term outcomes of this disgustingly preventable scandal. ☹️

If that should be true my conspiracy theory gets new food.
Apparently Anna Scherbakova unfollowed Eteri on IG (most likely today?), the same day as Eteri says Kamila is the most gifted skater +++ and then suddenly there is a source about the team members knew about the doping test before the team event.

The timing is....

Edit: Anna S not following Eteri on Instagram is not a conspiracy though, you can see it for yourself. If it happen today though I can´t say for sure but most likely fans would have noticed before.

I imagine some kind of ceremony is on its way: Russian Pride or Russia is Best or We Stand With Kamila. I'm curious how much of the everyday Russian population truly believes the story that Kamila accidentally drank her grandpa's burp juice. No, I'm not being sarcastic. I truly want to know who buys that story. Because in many countries, doping is seen as a taboo, a cheaters way. Yet in Russia, I get the feeling that it isn't so taboo.
I've never been able to get my head around a family with a kid who thinks it's fine to drink water from the same glass her grandfather just drank out of to take his pills? Without even rinsing it? Let alone washing it? Let alone getting a clean glass out of the cupboard?:sick:
