2024 Tallink Hotels Cup | Feb 15-18

Mmmm. I think I remember seeing this programme from Emily HURI (ISR) before. Because I remember thinking that the music had been slowed down too much.

You don't do that to 🦂 The Scorpions!

That aside, I enjoyed it.

Into 15th and penultimate position.

Now for some "Summer Loving" in February from our second Scottish skater, Lilian MUSGRAVE.

Does she have her Nick-name on the back of her jumpsuit? Seems like it says Lilly or something.

Well, the costume certainly went with the second song, "You're The One That I Want", but it did not fit the first song at all. This is one of those occasions when she could have been doing with a costume change in the middle.

Ach, pity about the fall.

But, on the whole, I loved it!!! (Hey, it's "Grease". Of course I loved it!)

I just paused it mid-spin to check. It says "Lili".

I'm still convinced that is Amodio! But, why would he be there looking after two Scottish skaters?

She goes into 14th position, only 0.04 behind Emilija OZOLA (LAT) in 13th.

I apologise. Daria and Lilian are both from England. I always thought they were both Scottish (their surnames sounded very Scottish / Irish to me).

But they are indeed both coached by Amodio!

So, I wasn't imagining things!

I'm going to be eating during this, so I won't be commenting much.

I don't want to get my 🥪 sandwiches all prickly! 🌵

You know, I was thinking out in my head a comment about these skaters that have been competing in Seniors all season dropping down to Juniors and just dominating the field (Sarina Joos and Arlet Levandi). And how, although I can understand why they were doing it, I felt sorry for those skaters that have been working away in Juniors all season.

But then Rafaelle Zich came along and spoiled that narrative! (Yes, he has done some Senior competitions this season, but he has mainly been doing Junior competitions).

I was not expecting Zich to win the SP. And I certainly was not expecting him to score anything like 77.59. Unless there are scores that Rink Results don't have (which is possible), he has never scored above 72 before.

He has set the cat amongst the pigeons before Junior Worlds.

I think most likely this is a result of the new junior world ranking system. The skaters you mention are going to JWC but has barely be doing juniors comps this season, at least in Sarinas case. Because the seeded groups at JWC are now based on junior world ranking and not the world ranking, skaters like Sarina who are nr. 21 on world ranking but had got no points for junior competition would pushed back in the first group who could affect their scores. Therefore is strategic for Sarina to do junior in this competition to be able to move up some groups. She will probably get around 200 points for this competition.
So that is why you end up with a situation like this where skaters who usually does mostly seniors will go to a junior competition and easily be at the top just to be better ranked before JWC.

However, the upside of this new system is of course that since JWC was seeded on world ranking before (I think?`) skaters who are purely juniors and done junior competitions would actually now get paid for their junior result and not be pushed back in early group because there is a bunch of skaters normally doing seniors but going to JWC and who have world ranking points, where juniors had none. Particular the need was done before of the raising of senior age, leaving a lot of skaters in juniors for a while. So in the new system is benefitting the most juniors, perhaps not just in the small competitions right before JWC.

It's been that long since I saw Liza that I couldn't remember what her dress looks like. But, I guessed correctly which one was her.

We didn't actually see her doing much in the way of elements within camera shot. But, in the second half of the warm-up, she did two lovely jumps at the far end of the rink from the camera, and a lovely Bielmann Spin nearer the camera.

I hope everything is just as lovely come the programme.

I didn't actually know there was now Junior rankings that decided seedings. I was thinking more about them wanting to get a competitive run-out with their Junior programmes before the big'un to see if any changes needed to be made.

But, I do want to correct you on something. Sarina did a couple of Junior GP's at the start of the season. So, she has actually got some Junior points on the board. But, not as many as she would have if she had not been doing only Senior competitions ever since.

Arlet, on the other hand, hasn't done any Junior competitions since last season.

It might also of course be to adjust their program to juniors, but I think the seeding is as important.

Actually no Sarina did not do JGP this season, it was last season when she skated for Switzerland. In the beginning of this season she was not able to compete because of country change and after that she only did seniors.

The junior world ranking only came to play this season, so no result from previous seasons counts. I also think since she changed country it wouldn´t have counted anyway if the ranking began last season.

I love this programme.

Beautiful Double Axel to start.

Fall on Triple Lutz.

But combination spin good. And so was Layback Spin that followed.

Got distracted by a notification, and lost track of what was happening in the second half. But the highlights looked good.

EDIT: Went back and re-watched the programme afterwards, so here are some more comments.

Combination jump good.

Possibly a stumble during the Step Sequence, but it may just be part of the choreography.

Beautiful combinatioon spin to finish with.

When doing the de-brief with her coach during the highlights, you could see she was disappointed. And when it went to full-screen, she looked like she was close to tears.

Into 3rd.

She's disappointed with her score. She's dropped her head in her hands.

But, it looked good to me, so...

:cheer: WELL DONE LIZA!!! :cheer:
