2024-25 Grand Prix assignments: Updated 11/12/24

Darya Grimm writes on Twitter that she is confused about the GP selection as well

I´m guessing it means they are doing JGP instead as they stated, and that ISU hasn´t really been checking with the skaters.

If other skaters/teams havn´t confirmed anything, we might as well see a lot more changes in the upcoming weeks. I thought there were some very surprising selections indeed.

In terms of my kids, I have two sets.

Camille KOVALEV / Pavel KOVALEV (FRA) in Pairs in France and China.
Emilea ZINGAS / Vadym KOLESNIK (USA) in Ice Dance in Canada and Finland.

Staying with the Ice Dancers, I had been hoping that Sofía VAL / Asaf KAZIMOV (ESP) would get an assignment. But, alas. That said, you never know, they might still.

I would check where they are in the World Standings, but none of the pages on either version of the ISU Results site are loading. Given the time of year, I would normally say that they are probably getting updated. But, I am not so sure that is the case this year, because there are other problems.

You know the way that the new site (results.isu.org) was secure (https://) and the old site (www.isuresults.com) was unsecure (http://). And because of this, I replaced all the links in my Fan Fests so that they would point to the new site, and started using links to the new site in all my reminder posts.

Well, I noticed a week or so ago that the new site isn't secure any more. Which means that all the links in my posts are now coming up with security warnings when you click them! :bang:

The upshot is that both versions of the ISU Results site are well and truly up the creek.

As usual, the ISU have completely messed things up.

You can see it at Skatingscores.com, I love that page. They are currently nr. 66 at World Standings. From my understanding, after WS top 24, the SB list up to 75 is more relevant in replacements for GP spots. They are currently nr. 37 there, but looking at the list Harris/Chan (30), Soucisse / Firus (33) and Bekker/Hernandez (35) and should get a spot before them. I also did leave out 2 American teams who are higher on the list, Flores / Desyatov and Wolkostin / Tsarevski, one of them will most likely get the TBD at SA, and US is maxed out on spots on every event except Cup of China, so except SA and CoC they can´t be picked unless a American team WD from the other events.

There are some teams that only have one spot who could get the the second spot in front of teams I mentioned, but they are not guaranteed to get one more. So i´m unsure how that is going to work out.

Given that the baby Germans don´t know why they are on the list, I would say it´s a chance that a lot of other teams are not confirmed either and would perhaps go of the list eventually, so I would say it´s not a bad chance for Val/Kazimov to get a spot eventually. For instance, I´m surprised to see Tkachenko / Kiliakov on the list, I thought they would do JGP.

I might have forgotten about a team which should be higher on the replacement list.

wait i thought Harris / Chan were in top 24 WS, why aren't they on the list then?
Also why would Tkachenko / Kiliakov do only 1 GP this season instead of being on JGP and having chance to win both JWC and JGPF pretty easily while doing senior ISU Champs. I think they along with the baby germans will wd.

I think they are nr. 24 in the upcoming season after the teams who retired/split are removed from the WS. I think the GP selection is based on last season if i´m not mistaken.

However, I do believe they are first in line if/when a team WD, because of SB list, unless one of the other teams who have only one spot will get the second spot. So there is a good chance they will get them.

I agree we might see both the junior teams WD.

Edit: It seems Harris/Chan was nr. 18 last season on WS, so i´m not sure why they didn´t get a spot :scratch2::scratch2:

This might be the deepest US ladies teams in years. Not sure how Bradie got Skate America over Alysa, Ava or Lindsay. They are the future for the US.

Ah, I didn't know they did the various standings lists. Over the years, I only ever used Skating Scores to look up scores for individual skaters / partnerships. But recently I have been discovering other things, like making graphs comparing scores for up to 6 skaters.

And when I was making some new Fan Fests over the past couple of weeks (which will be uploaded in just over a month from now, for reasons that will become obvious at the time), I was finding the site invaluable because on the results pages for events, it includes links to the original Entries / Results pages. And because the Fed of the country the skaters are from deleted all their old Entries / Results pages a few years ago, it meant I was able to get the addresses and put them into the Wayback Machine. And then link to the archived copy.

The thing I hate about the Skating Scores, though, is that you can't copy and paste from it. It is so easy to make mistakes when putting scores into a Word document. That is part of the reason why Rink Results is my first port of call - you can copy and paste from it. The other part of the reason is that I prefer the layout of Pål's tables. (I make no secret that the layout of the Competitive History tables in my Fan Fest threads is based on the layout of his tables, but with a few tweaks).

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. That there are usually lots of changes between now and the event actually starting.

Which is why I often wonder why the ISU bothers to publish Provisional Entry Lists for the Senior GP Series so far in advance. Because you can be sure that the line-up at every event will be significantly different to what has been announced today.

Would it not be better doing like the Junior GP Series and announcing the entries for each event a month before it starts? Yes, there are normally changes to the Junior GP's too between the Provisional Entry List and the final Entry List. But not as many.

By announcing the Provisional Entries now, the ISU are just creating unnecessary work for themselves. And there are plenty of other things that need dealing with that they could be doing instead.

I suspect that Bradie Tennell only got one spot and is a host pick for Skate America so that she has a second spot. Alysa has two spots under the returning skater rule because she was third at WC in her last season. Ava and Lindsay had been given two spots. It looks like USFS have actually been reasonably strategic here.

I think it is this year's world standings which were used. Sofja Stepchenko was 28th last season and is 24th in the new standings has a spot. Audrey Shin who was 24th and is now 26th does not. That said, Harris/Chan are 24th in the new standings and therefore should have one spot, so maybe they are starting the season later and have opted out of the GP.

G/F officially announced they're aiming for 2026 in this interview with Rai Sport from today, as well as their appearance in the GP assignments:

in my books, they didn't need to announce anything... it's clear they are skating at home olympics.. not only they are pretty much certain of a medal in dance but Italy's team is getting stronger...:) i was saying that some people are always saying they are done... and i know they are in for 2026.. but i doubt we would see them any further.. no worlds. no nothing after milano

wow, Grassl is back? Does that mean his case was dropped, or would he be eligible anyway due to his world ranking? I wonder.

I heard that it was.

He wouldn't be. He's outside of top 24. He is a returning skater.
i don't want to hope ans see my hopes crushed again...but...

happy to hear this!

With no one else stepping up except for Ilia Jason might as well try to make another Olympic team.

Jason has said that he would like to make the Milano team. But he was going to try for it on his own terms, no matter what any other US man did or did not do.

I admit, I am surprised. He teased about a competition season in one of his social media posts, but I thought that would be some Challengers. Not the GP:eek2:
