2024 Czech Skate Pairs FS

On a non-skating but important element, I did love the way with both of the final pairs, the one who was so upset by the mistakes they made and blaming themselves was consoled by their partner who clearly put their own disappointment and worry aside - especially the little French girl who was only 14 and must have been worried about their placing but you could see she was concentrating on reassuring her partner before the scores came up. From what Ted said, they should make it to the finals -?

I'm not quite as confident as he was. They placed 4th last week, so have 22 points. I think they are borderline for the final. If the first Chinese pair, Desrocher/Thrasher, Kemp/Elizarov and Flores/Wang all perform as expected in the remaining events then the French pair should be fine. If there are other teams who get unexpectedly high placings then they could lose out on one of the tie breakers.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for them (which will making typing a challenge but no sacrifice is too great....)

I think Telemaque/Coulon should be fine for qualification. Holichenko/Darenskyi are only entered into Gdansk and can't make the final even if they podium (assuming they perform to the level of their PB.) Zhang/Feng can't make the final either given that China only has three spots for Pairs. They benefit from those two teams being unable to make the final.

22 points have been enough for JGPF qualification every single year in which only 4 JGP events included pairs, so I'm feeling pretty confident that it will be enough this year as well.

There are 11 teams with a second JGP or two open JGP assignments, who could mathematically still score 22+ points, but mathematically (not realistically) at most 5-6 teams pulling ahead are possible.
