Oh, that's sad. I hope she heals well and can still skate in GP later stages. 🙏

I think it's a good thing for her to do. In the past she has competed not being on top of her game and seemed understandably frustrated with the results.
I agree.

And, given that there is only 2 weeks between GP France and her next assignment, it´s not unlikely she will WD from GP Finlandia as well. 2 weeks is not much time and now she won´t be able to go the final so she might skip that too if she needs more time.

I think her main focus will be trying to defend the Euros title.

I am not sure why the big deal about this w/d...(Flores/Desyatov) tons of skaters w/d from events all the time. I wish them well.
Probably how close it was to the event, and that they were replaced by a team seen as their main domestic rivals right after Flores was posting stories promoting their GP debut.

Plus it came right after Mia Kalin's last minute replacement at Wuxi, so there are some conspiracy theories going around about the reason that don't make sense. I don't think they made their way here. They're very popular on other social media, so that helps fuel it.

It's unfortunate timing, but it happens.

What annoys me is the attitude of some of the people. Even under Bella's instagram post there are people that say things like "Your fans need to know what the reason is" - no? You're not entitled to a full explanation!

The amount of people that actually believe this is kinda crazy. I think as you say, the timing is unfortunate. The case wasn´t even similar because Sophie Joline had a chance to go to the JGPF final, where the teams we are speaking of are not in a position to medal in this event, there is no logic that the USFS would do this move willingly on such short notice. Not to mention the logistics with travel etc. which is just a lot of extra work and expenses.

I do think if there was another team that had replaced them, all this conspiracy wouldn´t be so bad. There is opinion that the team who replaced them are a federation favorite and they are the opposite.

The only situation I can imagine USFS would encourage them to WD is if Bella had come out with a positive covid test or something. She had been saying very recent she has been a little ill. So it could be something like that, but I think she would have said that if so, unless she feels fine but still test positive on routine test. If they had to inform them about illness, they could have been encouraged to take a test to protect others or themselves from competing with illness, all though she might not feel that sick anymore. I don´t know if there is any restrictions longer on that part, but the past years there were a couple of WD with skaters who didn´t even have symptoms but were forced to because of routine covid test. And of course that felt very disappointing. However - now I do not think they would be forced to take test if there were no symptoms.

Yes, I was surprised because it was no - or not told to be - injury and she has usually been so excited about her assignments. But she has been there several times and if she feels she is not in shape, it is understandable. If skaters do not want to tell the reason, of course they have right not to do it, it may be some personal with is not wanted to tell in public. When I bought tickets to Finlandia, I knew the outline will be changed at still may. It happens.

Yeah.. I saw it and is really tragic how people feel entitled to know the reason behind it. It could be something traumatic/private they don´t want to share. And they are probably very sad about WD so that is not helpful at all.

I really hope they don´t feel forced to, but the way people ask and speculate I would not be surprised if they feel obligated to give another update so that this calms down. Maybe they could elaborate without telling the whole story, something like - that they had to WD because of a private matter, at least it would ease down the conspiracy about USFS being involved. But - they owe us nothing really.

So sad and pretty strange because she was looking in shape and skate pretty well at shangai trophy. Maybe she will make the GP of Finland like a comback to preapare the europeans and the worlds.

I'm so sad because I really want to see her in Angers.

yeah.. well... i don't really get the point of conspiracy theories about w/d.... i am okay with those about not sending skaters to challengers :)

let's be honest here, before Flores and Desyatov and Morozov Chen reach the top 3 in their own national championship, they will have to wait quite a few years... so why not just chill about these young and promising new teams and let things happen ? No point to make such a big deal about all of this.

some fans can be so toxic.

I don't think there are rules about covid anymore... at least, not in canada... you stay home if you have fever... but otherwise, there is no isolation. If you cough or still have symptoms, you wear a mask, which is something she could have done on the plane or anything... but yeah... just saying that covid is not really an issue in North America... not speculating ;)

I had COVID a few months ago. I did a self-administered test when I first started feeling ill, and it was negative. When I was feeling better, I decided to go get my hair cut. Just before I called, I decided to take another test, and that one was positive! Because of the close contact involved in a haircut, I didn't do it. It took another week, a negative test, and a mask before I decided to go ahead with it.

I's possible that something similar could happen to an athlete: a negative COVID tests while they feel ill, followed by a positive one when they feel recovered.

There are some (or maybe one?) posters who believe that it's part of a deliberate strategy from USFS to damage or destroy Flores/Desyatov's career. I have seen no actual evidence of it being anything other than a conspiracy theory concocted by fans.
