2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

Curiosity question and may only lead to speculative responses but heck I will put it out there....when one is on the national team, does Skate Canada pay for your coaching team?
There was a profile on Corey where he talked about what was covered when he was on the National Team. The website it was on is down, and the Wayback Machine isn't working, so I'm working off squinting at Instagram posts (4th slide here)

It says that funding covers 3/4 of the monthly coaching fees, and their flights and hotels for overseas competitions. But it doesn't cover paying the missed time for coaches due to competitions, so that's the responsibility of the skater.

Due to the cancellation of the Junior Women Free at Trophy Metropole, Reese Rose won silver based on the short program results.

Hopefully she and Aleksa Volkova can have another Junior B. I really like her short, so it's nice that she did win a medal for it.

Also nice to see that Parker won his event. It's been nice watching the Junior Men compete this season.

Really good skates from both of them. :) It's a shame Reese Rose didn't get to do her free - I think she would probably have been on track to gain the JW CTES if she had.
She's off by 0.18 points 😭 I really hope that Skate Canada does give her another chance to compete at a Junior B, she could really make it up. Especially if she improves her TES from the short.

I know. :( That's why I think she would have got them. Her current CTES includes a relatively poor FS from Cranberry. One jump improvement (e.g. not downgraded or popped) compared to there and she would have it.

Noooo!!!
I just got home and was looking forward to the free skates. I only watched Parker.
I wanted Aleksa and Reese to finish off their events
If the flood affects Fee Ann or Breken, I will be in tears 😭

Fee Ann got a terrible draw for the Short - she skates first. As an unknown skater even if she does well she won't get high marks skating that early. Breken's draw isn't much better.

If they are clean, others could be marked lower... but if they make mistakes, they will be buried... It's a tough draw but not impossible.

Really enjoyed Bombardier / Mimar short yesterday at Ontario Sectionals. Not the difficulty of the top Cdn teams but they seem quite solid to me. Why have they not been assigned a Senior B? Or two? I get that we have three strong teams in pairs right now but it is good to encourage depth. Not just in case of injury but also for the future. I think they could go far.

They didn't have a good showing at their summer competitions and came out much stronger at Souvenir Georges-Ethier. At that point, they couldn't be assigned to the pre-GP Challengers. What their monitoring looked like, I don't know.

They should get Warsaw Cup if they can have another good free today. That's the next Challenger with Pairs, which would get them on the SB list for next season. I'd like them to get Zagreb too, but that's close to Challenge. Skate Canada may not want to give them that for that reason.

Robert Brodie article on pre-SCI media calls with Deanna/Max and Piper/Paul:

One of the hot topics on Thursday was the status of Stellato-Dudek’s bid to obtain her Canadian citizenship in time for Milan 2026, a must if she wants to represent the country at an Olympics. While it’s not quite a done deal yet, she said things are moving a little closer to the finish line. “What I'll say is … there have been new developments and things are moving in the right direction.” Though she didn’t want to say much more than that, she sounds confident the process will finish in time.

So in the end, Fée Ann just had a turn after her lutz.. only mistake but she doesn't have a 3-3. She still scored 56 and dust and her score held up for her to be top 6 and final flight. Breken, however, doubled her lutz and try to scramble a 3-3 combo without success and is buried in the standings... but really, a pop and a fall in the SP would have done that anyways. I hope Fée Ann gets closer to the podium (the top 2 are way ahead but the others are quite close) and that Breken makes a huge come back tomorrow.

Parker is good. Steady jumps. I was curious about his spins... since well.. some of us have mentioned about Kaiya's... well... seems like Scott Davis hasn't been able to pass on his huge talent onto Parker either.... oh well ;)
