2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

It's nice to see that Uliana had a good international senior debut, judging by the scores. She'll need at least 53.7 TES in the free to get the Worlds CTES minimums, that should be achievable.

Her ISU bio was also updated for a new free program (La Terre Vue Du Ciel), I'm interested in seeing that.

Kaiya will need 59.85 TES in the free for Worlds CTES, unchanged from before the SP.

I hope overall this means one other Canadian team will get the Skate Canada spot (please fed, give a chance to your skaters and do not use the wait list)

And replacing the Worlds one, provided Bashynska/Beaumont or Fabbri/Ayer got their minimum scores (I haven't checked the numbers in general, I can only speak more generally)

they were going to SKAM and NHK... so no...

for worlds it will be betweeen Lauriault-Le Gac and Fabbri Ayer i suspect

The spots will go to the top non-American alternates (they're maxed out everywhere but Cup of China). It should be Janse Van Rensberg/Steffan for Skate America and Dupayage/Nabais for NHK based on the ranking order.

Well to be fair, I went a bit melodramatic. Reading enough topics there about Canadians getting passed over for opportunities or not being sent overseas that I was assuming the same. But that's also me forgetting that ice dance is still strong enough to have depth in talent pool

If it's properly covered, no need to panic, and no regrets that others get the slots

I wonder if they will wait until after denis ten to nominate the teams - if so, the scores at denis ten might matter…

I'm not sure if the ISU will handle Dance like Pairs (take into account all results at a Challenger) or like Singles skating (only take into account the podium) - Based on numbers alone, I would lean towards the latter option. 🤔

The scores would only matter if a team was on the podium that didn't have two assignments. The order for alternates is supposed to go by order of SB, but they've been ranking Challenger medalists by their higher SB if they are on the alternates list.

I don't see that happening at Denis Ten Memorial for teams that would be alternates. I'd like it for Fabbri/Ayer or Hensen/Lickers, but I'd be surprised if it did.

It's only Pairs that meet the minimum SB score in the announcement.

I wish they'd update the list, it's still from September 6. It would help confirm how it's working.

Robert Brodie interviews Piper/Paul:

“A lot of these dances aren’t really partner dances. And they’re not done on the ice, where there’s no friction and things like that. A lot of them are done in nightclubs where things are tight, and you’re not moving very big,” said Poirier. “So to find the moments to really dig into those dance styles in an authentic way, and finding other moments to skate … finding that balance is going to be a big challenge for everyone for the theme this year. But it also makes it fun.”

In case anyone missed Uliana's programs at Denis Ten Memorial:

SP - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0svT3z-13zU
FS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKrHsMqRt1k

So there are now three women with the Worlds CTES and five with the 4CC CTES. With Breken and Fee Ann competing at Trophy Metropole later this month, there could be seven women eligible for the 4CC spots at Nationals 👀
This is a great result for Uliana! The SP really set her up well to get a good score here.

Funny how Sara Maude and Uliana are stuck with 160+ scores domestically, but, break 170+ internationally. Our domestic judges are so strict.

A 178 score here, sets Uliana up well for 4CC and if she podiums at Nationals, she could nab 2 GP spots for the Olympic season. 178 will most likely put her on the alternate list.

Also, I just want to mention that Kaiya did quite well. She got level 4 spins on all three of her spins in the free skate. So, the change of coaches is working. She just has to get her jumps together.

Also, will be rooting for Breken and Fee Ann (love these two), at the next challenger event.

Last note is Katherine Medland Spence missed benchmark of 166, by less than a point. So, could have been 8 senior ladies with international events. I just want to give kudos to Skate Canada for finally having a fair system in place for our athletes.

Okay, so as to the earlier question about Kaiya moving to the Cricket Club, it's now confirmed in her ISU bio that she is now coached by Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson. Scott Davis and Jeff Langdon are now listed as her former coaches.
Wow! I love it 😍
The Cricket Club is getting interesting 🤨
This is good for Canada
We have good coaches for Ice Dance and Pairs. Our best singles skaters need development and I trust Brian and Tracy
(I wonder if Lia Cho will follow Kaiya, in the future)

Where is Minsol Kwon skating?

I think TCC is great for kaiya while granite is great so minsol

The one doubt I have is ice palace for rose.

But, Ravi coached Osmond…
Rose has gotten worse though
(Maybe, she is injured)

I just think you need competition within the same camp, to get better

She was injured.

She posted her first 2A post-injury two weeks ago:

She posted an Instagram reel of doing her first 3S in 6 weeks:
