Zarah WOOD and Alexander LAPSKY are Pairs skaters who represent 🇬🇧 Great Britain.

Zarah Wood was born on 14th September 2007 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, 🇨🇦 Canada.

Alex Lapsky was born on 9th March 2003 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England.

This is going to be a slightly different Fan Fest. There is already a post about Zarah’s Singles career in the thread about her family. So, rather than repeat everything here, the additional OP’s in this thread will focus on Alex.

Consequently, rather than having just one “Original Post”, this Fan Fest has three!

The first post (this one) is for the current Pairs partnership.
The second post is for Alex’s former Ice Dance partnership.
The third post is for Alex as a Singles skater.

The Junior Pairs SP is due to start at 09:30:00 BST (08:30:00 GMT). So 3 hours from now.

And that is as much as I can tell you, because I forgot about this event, and only the main Entries / Results page has been archived on the Wayback Machine.

Zarah and Alex finished 1st out of 4 in the SP, with a score of 36.30.

Unfortunately I forgot abpout the August Qualifier. However, some other members did remember, and were commenting about it in this season's British And Irish thread.

Here is @FlossieH's assessment of how Zarah and Alex got on:

Zara Wood and Alex Lapsky - generally fairly good technically. Big mistake on the death spiral where Alex slipped off the edge as he was about to insert the pivot and fell. I think Zara must have sensed he was off because she managed to stay upright even though she was on the way into the death spiral. Thrown triple (salchow I think - was definitely an edge one and looked like a sal rather than a loop) was beautiful. Although they were doing pairs elements, they kind of looked a bit like an ice dance team (yes, I know Alex Lapsky briefly partnered Sophia Bushell there). Zara in particular was doing the really exaggerated open mouth facial expressions which ice dancers seem to love, but it looked a bit odd in pairs.

And this is what @Weetos said about them:

Alex and Zarah's throw triple sal was great! I thought they performed really well, they've already grown a lot together.

Zarah and Alex are currently 0.46 points ahead of 2nd position, Neamh DAVISON / Daniel BORISOV, and 1.49 points ahead of 3rd position, Rebecca RITCHIE / Kyle McLEOD.

When you have the Top 3 covered by less than 1.50 points, all the podium positions are up for grabs. So Zarah and Alex have to make sure they put in a good Free Skate to secure that 🥇 Gold Medal.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Zarah and Alex finished 13th out of 15 in the SP, with a score of 39.46.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the start of the segment:

Oh, I'm so excited!!! I'm going to see my, erm, grandkid and her partner make their Junior GP debut in this opening group.

In case you're wondering what I am on about, one of Zoe Jones' daughters, Zarah Wood, is skating at #3 with Sofia Bushell's former Ice Dance partner, Alex Lapsky.

CaroLiza_fan

I didn't get a chance to write a comment about the Warm-Up, but @FlossieH did comment on something:

Hopefully that warm up fall means that Alex Lapsky will do it clean in the actual skate.

Here is what I wrote as they were about to start their programme:

Here we go. First time I will see my kids in action.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST ZARAH AND ALEX!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote after they finished their programme:

Ach, Alex fall on Double Axel. :bang:

Double Twist lift looked good to me.

Next lift good too.

Great landing for Zarah on Throw Triple Salchow.

Some nice choreography.

Really out of sync on the sequence of spins at the end.

Ach, they cut to the highlights just as Zoe had her arms out to give them hugs as they came off the ice!!!   But, even in that second or so, we could see she was beaming with pride!

Mark full of praise for Zarah's expressing herself. And they were pointing out that Alex's Ice Dance experience was shining through.

Awwww. All three of them were so cute when they came back from the highlights.

Into 3rd. But, they are delighted! And so they should be - it's their highest SP score yet!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

:cheer: WELL DONE ZARAH AND ALEX!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

I wasn't the only one impressed.

Our resident video archive compiler @labgoat wrote:

Your kids have a lot of charm and one huge throw!

And then added:

Oh my they did a pull arabian!

@Jumping_Bean wrote:

Everything else is still quite messy, but that throw is world class.

Given how new they are, that is probably a fair enough assessment.

@Seven Sisters wrote:

The daughter of the legendary Zoe Jones NAILS the landing of the throw jump.

And also, all three teams so far are ridiculously adorable and wholesome

@FlossieH, who (unlike most of us) had already seen them at August Qualifiers, wrote:

That was good for Zarah and Alex. It's only their third competition. Same fall as in warm up. :( But a lovely thrown 3S from Zarah. That element is where she really reminds me of her mam. It's something about the flight, but I haven't quite put my finger on what.

And then added:

Zoe looked so nervous in the kiss and cry there!

I don't blame her! Her daughter was making her Junior GP debut after all! ;)

@bartlebooth then commented:

She's such a mini-Zoe! So cute!

To which I replied:

Both of the twins are!

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp9154yo9fv/

Looking forward to seeing if Zinia will be joining her sister on the Junior GP circuit this season.

By the way, does anybody know where the twins were born? Was it in the UK, or was it Canada?

CaroLiza_fan

My question at the end didn't get answered, but @FlossieH had the unfortunate task of breaking my heart about Zinia:

All our JGP spots for women have been allocated. We only had three spots. She is not named as a sub for any, so no chance of getting one.

To which I replied:

I was too lazy to check. (Well, I didn't want to miss much).

That is unfortunate. But, given that she has not actually done that many Junior competitions, not surprising.

Hopefully Zinia will get out to a good number of Senior B's. And hopefully ones that have Pairs competitions, as I want to see the whole family in the results area supporting each other!

It's a shame Zoe and Chris couldn't have both been here this week, but I suppose one of them has to hold the fort and sort out the younger kids! Especially since school started back this week.

CaroLiza_fan

Zarah and Alex are currently 0.69 points behind 12th position, Aliyah ACKERMANN / Tobija HARMS (DEU), and 6.05 points ahead of 14th position, Ines MOUDDEN / Alejandro Lazaro GARCIA (ESP). They are the bottom partnership in a group where 9 partnerships are covered by 6.14 points, stretching up to Julia QUATTROCCHI / Simon DESMARAIS (CAN) in 4th position.

Although they are currently in antepenultimate position, Zarah and Alex are actually in a very good position. When you have a group this big and close, anything can happen. With a good Free Skate, they can potentially move up the order quite considerably. And they also have the cushion of a big gap behind them, meaning that they are unlikely to drop any positions.

So, let's hope that they have a good Free Skate and climb up the order!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Zarah and Alex finished 14th out of 15 in the FS, with a score of 62.06. This meant that they dropped to 14th position overall, with a score of 101.52.

Here is what I wrote about them in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Zarah and Alex were the first partnership to be focussed in on during the Warm Up. And they looked really good. I didn't spot any mistakes.

Zarah is wearing a beautiful blue dress. Alex is wearing a maroon jacket, with fluffy collar white shirt, and black trousers.

When the cameras went back to them, they would talk to Zoe, then go into the middle of the ice and do something, and then go back to Zoe.

Yesterday, Alex fell in the Warm-Up, and then fell again during the programme. Today, there were no falls. So, hopefully that is a good omen.

Looking forward to seeing the programme.

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about them after they did their programme:

Eh? James Bond music to start with. What happened the "Soul Bossa Nova"?

Not great synchronicity on the opening jump sequence.

Double Twist Lift better. As was the Double Salchow that followed.

Ach, Zarah fall on Throw Triple Salchow.

Lift that followed was good. And so were the spins.

Right, now we're onto the "Soul Bossa Nova".

The music has got more up-tempo, but they look to be tiring. They both looked to be running out of steam on the lift.

Scratch that. The Throw Double Loop was good!

Zoe looked cheery enough, but the others looked disappointed. Particularly Zarah, who looked like she was going to cry just before the scores were announced.

Into 2nd in both FS and overall.

With the lead they had over the two partnerships behind them after the SP, they will have been hoping to have climbed rather than dropped. But, these things happen.

But, when they look back, it was a good debut for a relatively new partnership. And for somebody that has switched from Ice Dance.

:cheer: WELL DONE ZARAH AND ALEX!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

As for posts from other members, the first was a very funny GIF from my Sicilian friend, @elektra blue, that referred to the theme of their programme. But, to save space, I won't bother quoting it.

Unfortuantely, the member that had seen them at August Qualifiers, @FlossieH, was having computer problems at the time, explaining:

I missed most of that because I needed to restart my computer to unfreeze the stream. Caught the very end and from the TES box it looks like they had a difficult skate?

And then when the scores came through, she comented:

Yes, it was a tough skate. They've had higher scores.

@bartlebooth initially commented:

Poor Zarah is disheartened, but I think they look promising.

And then replied to @FlossieH's comment, saying:

A hard fall on a throw and some misshaps here and there. All part of the learning curve, I figure

Canadian member @saine commented:

Wood/Lapsky were cute. She looked so disappointed with the score, but they'll get there.

Finally, our resident video archive list compiler, @labgoat, wrote:

Zara & Alex GBR have really nice costumes. She is especially cute. They are well matched and have a nice look to an Austin Powers theme. Mistakes on the harder elements, but good for them for trying and learning. I look forward to seeing them develop. I hope they do not get discouraged - this is part of the learning process. They have a lot of charm.

Zarah and Alex finished the Free Skate 6.17 points behind 13th position, Aliyah ACKERMANN / Tobija HARMS (DEU), and 1.08 points ahead of 15th position, Clélia LIGET-LATUS / Allan Daniel FISHER (FRA).

Overall, Zarah and Alex were 4.26 points behind 13th position, Ines MOUDDEN / Alejandro Lazaro GARCIA (ESP), and 7.83 points ahead of 15th position, Liget-Latus / Fisher.

Although they will be annoyed with the fall on the Throw Triple Salchow, and annoyed with the Back Outwards Death Spiral being invalidated, and annoyed about dropping a position, it is not all bad. The invalid element meant that that they had the lowest Base Value of the field, yet they still finished ahead of the second French partnership, whose Base Value was 3.60 points higher.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Zarah and Alex finished 13th out of 13 in the SP, with a score of 37.22.

Here is what I wrote about them in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Kids in two consecutive groups! :drama:

Well, it's a skater in the last group of the Ladies SP, and a patnership in the first group of the Pairs SP.

A great Throw Triple Salchow when Zarah and Alex were first shown! (Thank you Ted for telling me what it was!)

Then at the other end of the rink Alex lifted Zarah, but they immediately aborted it.

When the cameras came back to them, Ted used them to explain how the element they were doing works. Which was cool.

I get the impression that he likes them.

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about them after they did their programme:

Ach, Alex didn't have a great landing on the Double Axel.

Double Twist Lift good

And the next lift looked impressive. But, I would be worried that they may get a time violation deduction for it being too long.

Throw Triple Salchow was impressive too.

Back Outside Death Spiral good.

There as some really innovative choreography.

Out of sync on Sit Spins. But recovered for the final set of spins.

You could see how delighted they were as soon as they finished!

Chris with them. So, Zoe must be at home looking sorting out the other kids this week.

Awwww. The three of them spelt out the word "MUM"!

I've known for a while that Zarah was a real character, but all three of them are!

Zarah and Alex go into 3rd position.

It may be last position, but they were really good!

:cheer: WELL DONE ZARAH AND ALEX!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Probably because of t he clash with the Nebelhorn Trophy, there were not many people commenting during the early stages of the Pairs SP. There was actually only one other comment about Zarah and Alex, from @bartlebooth:

So much fun and their trademark throw! :love2:

Zarah and Alex are currently 0.03 points behind 12th position, Nikola SITKOVÁ / Oliver KUBAČÁK (SVK), and 0.89 points behind 11th position, Lise RÉGNIER / Luca NANDROT (FRA). They are the bottom partnership in a group where 6 partnerships are covered by 2.96 points, stretching up to Claudia Sinclair SCOTTI / Noah QUESADA GRAU (ESP) in 8th position.

It's a long shot and would require a lot of things to go their way, but even 6th position could be within reach. Laura HEČKOVÁ / Alex VÁLKY (SVK) are currently 7.59 points ahead of Zarah and Alex.

Even though they are currently in last position, there is the potential for Zarah and Alex to move considerably up the order if they have a good Free Skate.

So, let's hope they do!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Pairs FS is is due to start at 13:45:00 TRT (10:45:00 GMT / 11:45:00 BST). So 5 hours from now.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 13:45:00 TRT (10:45:00 GMT / 11:45:00 BST). So 5 hours from now.

Zarah and Alex finished 1st out of 4 in the SP, with a score of 47.26.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Warm-Up, because I was watching the coverage of the Formula 1 Qualifying. However, the coverage finished just as the Junior Pairs FS finished, so I wound the stream back and watched them.

Here is what I wrote about their programme in the competition thread:

F1 Qualifying has finally been abandoned due to the rain, so I have wound the stream back to watch Zarah and Alex.

We can't hear the music on the stream!!!

Ah, it eventually started coming through as they were going into their first element.

Side-by-side jumps good, but not in sync.

Alex leaning forward when catching Zarah on the throw.

Lift good.

I like Alex's kick.

Lovely throw.

Death Spiral good.

Out of sync on spins.

Wow on whatever that was!

They have some nice choreographic moves.

Way out of sync on Sit Spins at end.

Awww. Zarah's been thrown a Winnie The Pooh.

Chris with them.

They win the SP!!!

A wee girl came in and gave them a bag and congratulated them.

Then another wee girl came in, and gave them each a hug. And then her Dad asked if he could take a photo of her with them, and they were only too happy to oblige.

Just shows how nice and down to Earth people they are.

:cheer: WELL DONE ZARAH AND ALEX!!! :cheer:

Zarah and Alex are currently 7.66 points ahead of 2nd position, Johanka ŽILKOVÁ / Matyas Rafael BECERRA (CZE), and 10.35 points ahead of 3rd position, Alžběta KVÍDEROVÁ / Jindřich KLEMENT (CZE).

Zarah and Alex are also 10.60 points ahead of the remaining partnership, Wiktoria PACHA / Szymon DERECHOWSKI (POL) in 4th position.

I don't want to count my chickens, but it would take the mother of all turnarounds for Zarah and Alex not to win this. But they must not rest on their laurels. They still need to put in a good Free Skate to make sure of it.

So, let's hope that they do have a good Free Skate!

Combined Technical Elements Score. A minimum of 63 is needed for pairs for Junior Worlds. Combines the best SP TES and the best FP programme one. Zarah and Alex had been around 6-7 points short before this competition.
