Zarah and Alex finished 11th out of 12 in the FS, with a score of 69.34. This meant that they remained in 11th position overall, with a score of 111.65.

Looking at the Protocols, it was the same story as in the SP. Not a lot of positive numbers.

The Choreographic Sequence that @Jumping_Bean mentioned did get the best GOE of the programme, but it was still only +0.29. It also got the best set of Judges marks, with -1 from Judge 5; 0 from four Judges; +1 from two Judges; and +2 from two Judges.

At the other end of the spectrum were the third and fourth elements. The Throw Triple Flip got the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.79. It also got Judges marks of five -4's; and four -3's. The Group 3 Lift they did just before it didn't fare much better, with the second biggest GOE hit, at -1.66. It's Judges marks were -4 from seven Judges; -3 from Judge 2; and -2 from Judge 3.

Zarah and Alex finished the Free Skate 4.28 points behind 10th position, Johanka ŽILKOVÁ / Matyáš Rafael BECERRA (CZE), and 2.41 points ahead of 12th position, Ines MOUDDEN / Alejandro Lazaro GARCIA (ESP).

Overall, Zarah and Alex were 4.56 points behind 10th position, Žilková / Becerra, and 6.76 points ahead of 12th position, Moudden / Garcia.

After the Robin Cousins Cup, I thought that once they get their programmes polished, they will be impressive. And I still do. But, I just hope that it starts to take effect soon, or else the mistakes could start getting them down.

Their next Junior Grand Prix is in three weeks time in Poland. So, after the birthday celebrations for the twins are over, it is time to get to work with the polish.

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

I hope you have an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for both of you, both on and off the ice.

Wow! My "grandchildren" are now all grown up. Where has the time gone?!

We haven't seen Zinia and Harry's programmes yet, so can't comment on them. But, once Zarah and Alex get ther programmes polished up, I can see this being a very good season for them.

But, in the meantime, I hope the twins have a great 18th birthday.

Zarah and Alex finished 15th out of 18 in the SP, with a score of 41.38.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the whole competition, as I was concentrating on the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge. But I did pop in to watch Zarah and Alex.

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

To which our resident video archive list compiler @labgoat replied:

Poor thing, she wants it so badly that she rushes at times. Sometimes progress seems slow but they are learning. She just needs to not get too ahead of herself. Hang in there Zara & Alex - you are making progress just trust your training. Good luck in the free!

Going back, @labgoat was also the first to comment, with:

German member @Jumping_Bean was doing Play-By-Plays:

My fellow British member @FlossieH had some constructive criticism:

Looking at the Protocols, there were three elements that had negative GOE and no positive Judges marks. The first was the second element, the Double Axel. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.99. It also got -4 from Judge 4; -3 from seven Judges; and -2 from Judge 5.

The next element, the Reverse Lasso Lift, had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.62. However, because it had by far the highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it two -2's; five -1's; and two 0's.

The sixth and penultimate element, the Change Foot Combination Spin, had the smallest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.33. But, because it had the lowest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -3 from Judge 3; -2 from five Judges; and -1 from three Judges.

Of the four remaining elements, three of them had neutral GOE. The only element that got positive GOE was the final element, the Step Sequence, which got +0.15. Apart from two -2's (from Judge 6 for the opening Double Twist; and from Judge 3 for the fifth element, the Backwards Inside Death Spiral), the Judges marks for these four elements ranged from -1 to +1.

Zarah and Alex are currently 0.85 points behind 14th position, Ava CHEUNG / Stephen LEE (CAN), and 1.56 points ahead of Paola JURIŠIĆ / Michail SAVENKOV (AUT) in 16th position. All three of them are part of a group where 12 partnerships are covered by 11.13 points, stretching up to Louise EHRHARD / Matthis PELLEGRIS (FRA) in 6th position, 9.54 points ahead of Zarah and Alex, down to Ines MOUDDEN / Alejandro Lazaro GARCIA (ESP) in 17th position, 1.59 points behind Zarah and Alex.

Whilst 6th position is too big an ask, if Zarah and Alex have a good Free Skate, they could move up into the Top 12. The partnership currently in 12th position, Milada KOVAR / Jared McPIKE (USA) is 4.60 points ahead of them. However, they have to be careful not to make mistakes, because the two partnerships directly behind them are well within striking distance.

So, let's hope they do have a good Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Junior Pairs FS is is due to start at 12:50:00 CEST (04:50:00 MST / 10:50:00 GMT / 11:50:00 BST). So 6 hours from now.

Zarah and Alex will be the 4th partnership to start. So, first and antepenultimate partnership to go in Group 2 (and antepenultimate partnership to go before the firsts resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 13:17:30 CEST (05:17:30 MST / 11:17:30 GMT / 12:17:30 BST). So 6h 27m from now.

Zarah and Alex are due to start at 13:24:00 CEST (05:24:00 MST / 11:24:00 GMT / 12:24:00 BST). So 6h 34m from now.

To which I replied:

Looking at the Protocols, they are not pretty. So, I am not going to go through them.

I will say one thing, though. Their sixth element, the Double Salchow, did get positive GOE, at +0.07. And it had no negative Judges marks, getting four 0's and five +1's. So, there was one ray of light.

Zarah and Alex finished the Free Skate 5.97 points behind 17th position, Chiara Michaela PAZIENZA / Maxim KNORR (CHE), and 7.07 points behind 16th position, Paola JURIŠIĆ / Michail SAVENKOV (AUT).

Overall, Zarah and Alex were 5.51 points behind 16th position, Jurišić / Savenkov, and 0.90 points ahead of 18th position, Pazienza / Knorr.

This was a day that I hope Zarah and Alex are able to forget very quickly.

It is interesting that the individual video has not been uploaded to the ISU YouTube channel. It's probably for the best.

Hopefully things will go much better for them at their next event. Thankfully they are not entered for the October Qualifier this coming week. So, they will be able to get a break in which they can get over the disappointment.

Swiss Open Junior Pairs SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Zarah and Alex finished 3rd out of 6 in the SP, with a score of 45.25.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch, because there was nothing to watch. There was no streaming for the Swiss Open.

Looking at the Protocols, there were three elements with negative GOE, but they didn't seem to be major issues. The negative GOE ranged from -1.03 for the third element, the Roller Lift, to -0.22 for the second element, the Double Axel.

The opening element, the Double Twist, would have been completely neutral in terms of GOE and Judges marks were it not for a -2 from Judge 4.

For the three elements with positive GOE, it ranged from +0.10 for the fourth element, the Throw Double Flip, to +0.39 for the final element, the Step Sequence.

It should also be noted that Zarah and Alex's programme had the highest Base Value of the entire field.

Zarah and Alex are currently 2.43 points behind 2nd position, Clelia LIGET-LATUS / Allan Daniel FISHER (FRA), and 1.70 points ahead of Paola JURIŠIĆ / Michail SAVENKOV (AUT) in 4th position.

You know, if Zarah and Alex have a good Free Skate, they have a chance of winning this. They are only 2.50 points behind the current leaders, Laura HEČKOVÁ / Alex VÁLKY (SVK). But, they have extra reason to need to do a good Free Skate, as the Austrians behind them are within striking distance.

So, let's hope they do have a good Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Junior Pairs FS is is due to start at 11:40:00 CEST (02:40:00 MST / 09:40:00 GMT / 10:40:00 BST). So 5 hours from now.

Zarah and Alex will be the 4th and antepenultimate partnership to start. So, first and antepenultimate partnership to go in Group 2.

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 12:07:30 CEST (03:07:30 MST / 10:07:30 GMT / 11:07:30 BST). So 5h 27m from now.

Zarah and Alex finished 4th out of 6 in the FS, with a score of 73.42. This meant that they remained in 3rd position overall, with a score of 118.67.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch, because there was nothing to watch. There was no streaming for the Swiss Open.

Looking at the Protocols, there were a LOT of elements with negative GOE. Seven in total. Too many to go through them all individually. But, going by the numbers and the fact that the Protocols only tell us what the issue was for one of the elements, most of them were not major issues.

The element where we are told the issue was the second element, a series of Axels done in sequence. The first one was a Double, but the second one was popped, which invalidated that part of the element. It had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.10, which made it the second lowest scoring element of the programme. It also got the worst set of Judges marks of the programme, with two -4's; and three -3's.

The seventh element, the Reverse Lasso Lift, had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.55, but because it had the highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. It had the second worst set of Judges marks, with three -3's; and two -2's.

For the remaining five elements with negative GOE, the GOE ranged from -1.00 for the fourth element, the Throw Triple Loop, to -0.11 for the opening element, the Double Twist.

The fifth element, the Backwards Outside Death Spiral, had neutral GOE. It also had -1 from Judge 5; 0 from three Judges; and +1 from Judge 4.

For the two elements with positive GOE, the GOE ranged from +0.13 for the sixth element, the Double Salchow, to +0.67 for the eighth element, the Choreographic Sequence. The Double Salchow also had the best set of Judges marks, with +1 from four Judges; and +2 from Judge 5

Apart from the two -4's for the sequence of Axels, and the +2 for the Double Salchow, all the Judges marks were in the -3 to +1 range.

After having the programme with the highest Base Value in the SP, Zarah and Alex had the programme with the third highest Base Value in the FS. Only the programmes of the Top 2 partnerships had higher Base Values.

Zarah and Alex finished the Free Skate 0.26 points behind 3rd position, Laura GAUCH / Linus MAGER (CHE), and 5.24 points behind 5th position, Paola JURIŠIĆ / Michail SAVENKOV (AUT).

Overall, Zarah and Alex were 12.67 points behind 2nd position, Clelia LIGET-LATUS / Allan Daniel FISHER (FRA), and 4.01 points ahead of 4th position, Gauch / Mager.

Boys but that was close in the Free Skate! Zarah and Alex only just missed out on third position in the segment. But, they held onto the overall third position. Which means that all of my kids that were in action this week are coming home with medals. In fact, there is a full set!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Some of the other British members were watching. The first to comment was @FlossieH, who noticed something interesting:

While @Weetos just plain enjoyed the programme:

Zarah and Alex are currently 3.06 points behind 1st position, Neamh DAVISON / Daniel BORISOV (Sheffield), and 18.04 points ahead of Wakana KATAYAMA / Elliot APPLEBY (Swindon) in 3rd position.

Well, it's safe to say that we have a duel for the title. Sheffield versus Swindon. However, although they have no threat from their team-mates in third position, Zarah and Alex do neeed to put in a good Free Skate if they are going to win the title, because the gap to the leaders is just on the verge of getting too big.

So, let's hope they do have a good Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

And then @Weetos came back to agree about the lift:

Zarah and Alex finished the Free Skate 8.01 points behind 1st position, Neamh DAVISON / Daniel BORISOV (Sheffield), and 15.43 points ahead of 3rd position, Wakana KATAYAMA / Elliot APPLEBY (Swindon).

Overall, Zarah and Alex were 11.07 points behind 1st position, Davison / Borisov, and 33.47 points ahead of 3rd position, Katayama / Appleby.

In terms of their scores, this was a very successful event for Zarah and Alex. They achieved their highest ever SP score, their second highest ever FS score, and their highest ever overall score.

First the good news.

The video of their performance in the Gala at the European Championships has been uploaded to YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PocWRAmiDa8

Now the bad news.

They have split:

https://www.instagram.com/p/DUOHl4liIuR/

I was not expecting that! Zarah and Alex splitting was the last thing I would have imagined happening.

Such a shame. I really liked them.

It has been a pleasure to have been their adoptive Daddy on here.

I wish both of them all the best for the future.

Thank you to @DemTuppesSeine for letting us know.

CaroLiza_fan

And after finding out this morning that my other young Pairs partnership had split, I now have some happier news. Zarah has a new partner:

https://www.instagram.com/p/DZngXU3ovqj/

Thank you to @DemTuppesSeine for letting us know over in the Splits & Partner Changes thread.

Zarah following in the footsteps of her mother in getting a French partner. And like Chris, Flavien is from the Île-de-France region.

Looking forward to seeing what they are like.

No word yet on Alex's plans.
