This is precisely what’s wrong with her statement. Online comments and speculation were not the basis of Ivan Desyatov being banned! Focusing on that is missing the forest for the trees.Honestly, I think you're reading too much into the statement. She's not said outright anything that proves any of the conclusions you're jumping to about her views on the case or her motivations.
I think you may be taking her comments about online speculation personally. Online comments and speculation is not a substitute for a thorough investigation.
The Sørenson case was dealt with by Canadian authorities and involved a different set of circumstances.
????? Why would she be against Desyatov? Isn't it obvious that she is supporting him and is on his side? This is precisely what’s wrong with her statement. Online comments and speculation were not the basis of Ivan Desyatov being banned! Focusing on that is missing the forest for the trees.
Desyatov was banned before the public had any idea what was going on, and in fact when Flores/Desyatov were initially pulled from Skate America many of their fans took it upon themselves to accuse US Figure Skating of withdrawing them to favor another team, in the process attempting to smear the reputation of their replacements. So there is certainly a pattern here of wild speculation and damaging accusations, but much of it has been coming from Flores/Desyatov fans long before it was confirmed that Desyatov was banned for sexual misconduct, and certainly long before it was confirmed that the person who assaulted Solene was Desyatov. Much of the “speculation” has been in response to that ban. Maybe Isabella Flores should direct some of her hurt and frustration at her partner rather than commenters on Instagram.
My charitable read of the situation: Flores is not smart, vain, and addicted to social media.TBH I don't know if she is not particularily smart or has far too much selfconfidence. Or if there is something that's going to come up and she is anticipating and trying to shift the narrative.
now.https://youtu.be/hmF_aKd31Bo?si=uVKJL2P_bER8ALoO (YouTube) FD of Annabelle Morozov and Jeffrey Chen at Midwestern Sectionals which they placed 1st for Ice Dance - note they were not in the Kiss n Cry with Charlie White or Greg Zhuerlin. It was just formally announced and confirmed that Annabelle Morozov and Jeffrey Chen left MIDA and in Florida skating under Annabelle’s father Nikolai Morozov.
I hate to be that person, but this won't do one iota of good. All sides of our government are dysfunctional. You know what would *really* support accusers and do some good? If you are American, write your Congressperson for funding for more staffing for Safe Sport.
Agreed. Yes, we are all free to have different views or criticisms of the situation. It's how we each choose to act on our feelings or thoughts.I am a pretty cynical old person who has done some minimal work in this area. I just don't understand the vast and unyielding harm from Isabella's post. The more piling on there is, the more inclined I am to roll my eyes. In no way does it support Solène or other survivors to be a keyboard warrior.
Insults and judgments are cheap. Action is not. You know what would *really* support accusers and do some good? If you are American, write your Congressperson for funding for more staffing for Safe Sport. Find out what is needed to have quick and fast resolutions in the process, and work towards it. If there are other systems in play here (French legal system?) find out what can be done to expedite that process.
I would love to know how to do that myself. I think I am going to look at "the Google"now.
It was for another bad behavior...can't say moreI wonder if any of this has to do with the “resignation” of the USFS head? Like maybe she knew about a police investigation and brushed it under the rug?
21 and married to your skating partner is also not the best thing...i am prefacing this by saying i am in NO WAY defending/excusing her actions here, but i think it's important to remember she is only 21 and many elite skaters (and even those who are not) grow up very sheltered and in turn don't mentally/emotionally develop and grow up the same way "normal" kids do. They largely do not have the same experiences. not speaking for all skaters here, but i think that immaturity shows itself pretty regularly in this sport through people like Valieva, Grassl, and now Flores. again this is not an excuse for her behavior/actions in any way, but it explains them. i imagine this is probably pretty tough for her after what she went through with her former partner and now this on top of being married to him and possibly being blindsided and dealing with some denial. i hope she can process this with support around her and understand the full impact and harm of her behavior and adjust accordingly.
