2024 Bosphorus Cup | Nov 25 - Dec 1

We have figure skating royalty in this second partnership, Silvia LUTAY / Gleb RIASKIN (BUL).

Silvia is the daughter of Bulgarian Ice Dancer Ina Demireva (i.e. Albena Denkova's sister) and Russian Men's skater Andrei Lutay.

Although Andrei is here (he coaches my kids the Hristova sisters, who were competing in Junior Ladies the past couple of days), it is just their coach Alexei Sitnikov sitting with them. (Boys he has changed since his competitive days. I wouldn't have recognised him at all!)

It was a fun programme.

They go into 2nd position. But they are only 0.29 points behind the partnership representing Kazakhstan.

Zosia & Oleg got another SB. They will break 50 points this season, not bad considering that she just switched to ice dance.

I haven't been commenting because I went to get ready during the first group (I didn't want to have to wait until the end of this to get into the bathroom), and even with the resurfacing, am still behind by about 10 minutes,

But, I have just watched Ksenia SIPUNOVA / Miron KORJAGIN (EST). And talk about drama. They had to interrupt their programme because the laces in Miron's left boot got cut, and he had to deal with it. It didn't take long. He found a way of getting the very long loose bit gathered up, and re-tied to the other end. And he did it so quickly that I was thinking "he's done this before!"

They went into 7th position.

Ksenia looked distraught at the score.

We now return from the dinner break for first of the Senior competitions. And we are actually continuing with the social dancing.

#4 Victoria MANNI / Carlo ROETHLISBERGER (ITA) have withdrawn.

So we went straight to the country with #5 Karla Maria KARL / Kai HOFERICHTER (DEU).

My goodness! Stefano Caruso has got himself a cowboy hat! 🤠

Just catching up a bit. The SUI team did Barbie and while it was cute and full of cute accents, it did not highlight the skating skills I saw from their car race RD last year.

The UKR team has a very well done Fosse program but some twizzle sync issues hurt them.

The FRA team is doing better since changing their RD to a more audience friendly dance that shows off their skating skills the best so far.

I take it that was Alan Abretti that was with Natalia PALLU-NEVES / Jayin PANESAR (BRA). Because it wasn't any of their other coaches!

Unfortunately, they go into 8th and last position.

I take it the Hubers have withdrawn, because the ice is empty.

Yep, straight onto the resurfacing.

May I say I just love this KAZ team. Not the strongest technically, but dedicated to learning and they always bring something different and their love of dancing shows. I applaud the step up in their skills. They are gamely trying to interpret funky town which seems to be a new style of music for them.

Bringing the bling is the team from BRA. What a nice, extroverted presentation to Hot Stuff. Gosh the sound is atrocious on this feed.

Commenting on earlier teams, I am not a country western music fan. The fact that I enjoyed the program and creativity of the GER team says a lot. Wonderfully fun program.

We're back. But, I might be leaving at the top of the hour. I've yet to decide.

Thank you for the comments you made while catching up, @labgoat . I didn't really feel like commenting.

I'm not a country fan either, but I also enjoyed the German programme. Although, that may be because I love all of the songs they were using. To be honest, I wouldn't class those songs as country songs. But, they made a good job of convincing us that they were!

I didn't realise until there now - the two Dutch partnerships are going back-to-back!

Talk about building up the drama! :drama:

We should have had the same situation with the two Cypriot girls in the Junior Ladies SP. It would have been the first head-to-head between Stefania Yakovleva and Vasilisa Bogomolova. But, unfortunately, Stefania withdrew.

Anyway, Chelsea VERHAEGH / Sherim van GEFFEN (NED) go into 6th position.

Now for Hanna JAKUCS / Alessio GALLI (NED).

Personally, I preferred Hanna JAKUCS / Alessio GALLI (NED) over Chelsea VERHAEGH / Sherim van GEFFEN (NED).

But that might be because I love ABBA, but don't really like Elvis.

Hanna and Alessio go into 5th position, pushing Chelsea and Sherim down to 7th.

But in terms of scores, there is only 1.58 points between them. Apart from the leaders, the whole field is so tight at the moment!

That was timely hearing the "Happy Days" theme tune as the final song in Elisabetta INCARDONA / Rafael Marc Drozd MUSIL (DEN)'s programme.

During the break between the Juniors and Seniors, I was watching an episode of "MacGyver". And who was the executive producer of that series? A certain Henry Winkler. Who, no matter what he does, will forever be better known as The Fonz from "Happy Days".

They go into 11th and last position.

Paulina RAMANAUSKAITE / Deividas KIZALA (LTU)

Have I been living under a rock? How did I not notice before that Paulina is seriously hot?! 🔥

I love "These Boots Are Made For Walking". I love The Supremes.

But whose bright idea was it to have a remix of their version of that song?! It ruined the song!

They go into 2nd position.

off topic question - what country does this team represent? Portugal?
Claudia AMARO LETESTU / Marco AMARO LETESTU (POR)

Erm, am I blind, or are Sofía and Asaf there?

I can only see four partnerships on the ice. And I don't see my kids amongst them.

Well, if they aren't there, that has made my decision about whether to switch to the Formula 1 or stay with the skating easier.
