2024-25 Junior Grand Prix Final Men's Free Skate

This was a rough skate for him, but even though it wasn't as apparent here, Yanhao really is so good! I really think he has senior-podium-level quality, mainly because he has improved to rapidly and has such a good foundational base of skating skills and jump technique. I do think another season in juniors will help him learn how to manage pressure and perform more, but there are some real moments of brilliance throughout this program - the 3S out of nowhere, coming back after a tough fall to nail the 3-jump combo, the layback positions in his combo spin, and his choreo sequence. It wouldn't surprise me if he''s growing right now, which will of course affect his jumps, but he still has so much success yet to come.
Still a New Zealand competitor at olympics 2025 would have been cool. I like his skating so much

Oh gosh, I think the nerves got too poor Lukas - he seemed to just be off in the air, sort of like the skating version of the twisties, and those pops are so costly - it's better score-wise to pull in and fall than pop. The little stumbles in the choreo sequence and the spin errors are also far from what he is capable of, but good on him for coming back with the lutz combo and I was glad to hear the audience cheer him on and encourage him. Hopefully Lukas can remember his spectacular short program instead and come back stronger next time. :console:
