I guess Jacob is nervous, not feeling confident and safe in his jump landings.

Jacob is like a giant black lab - full of energy, occasionally tripping over his feet, but capable of great soaring leaps. He has the same build and endearing awkwardness that Boitano had at his age with a dazzling smile.

This program is a completely different style from his short program, but Jacob does so well performing both. He opened that program with so much speed and aggression, but did so well to slow it down before his jumps and stay calm after the opening 3A mistake. Not letting the jump mistakes affect the rest of the program speaks to how strong of a competitor mentally Jacob is, and I loved the energy and joy in the choreo sequence.

Jacob, like Amber, has really learned to fight this year. He does have an incredible amount of power. His jumps also have great height. I do wonder if his somewhat slow rotation speed might hold him back in Seniors. But, hard not to love him.

but much more control compared to Frangi, especially when he was a junior (are you going to watch Ita nationals in 2 weeks?)

Someone compared Sanchez to Pulkinen (which I strongly disagree with. Pulkinen’s skating is forgettable and nondescript). Sanchez reminds me more of a combination of Miura and Frangipani. He has the former’s speed and the latter’s earnestness. That was a good skate. He’s not going to beat Seo in the free but will beat him overall.

Hopefully he will learn from this experience and continue to grow- there is just so much that is likeable about this young man
