2024 Japanese Nationals - Men's SP

Why do so many brilliant quad jumpers have so much trouble with the 3A???

Well, that was close to a perfect skate. Was hoping to see Yuma nail the SP as I wanted to see a 100+ score.

Still, enough to go to 1st place.
His 4S and 4T 3T were so good
The 3A was definitely <<

Yuma is becoming a Champion before our very eyes. He is learning how to compete under pressure. Not all the way there yet, but well on his way.

Yuma is so good, I almost think it has to be a confidence problem at this point. (Also I really hope he uses Werther next season, that program is so much better than this one)

I thought Kagiyama would go clean, but then he goes and falls on the 3A. I still don’t like the program with its lackluster first half. The second half, however, is great.

Well, there’s the opportunity for our final two men. The question is, will they take it?

29. 山本 草太 Sota Yamamoto (Chukyo University)

SP:

Irish coffee is sounding really good right now... I love the build of this program and the step sequence, I really think it shows off Sota's maturity and elegance, but those were two unfortunate errors. Fortunately for Sota, everyone's been bombing so he's probably fine.

A great start from Yamamoto, but the program became a bit of a mess after the first jumping pass. The first half is just dead. There’s nothing much going on and the music doesn’t help.

The top Japanese men have so much trouble with their nerves. I heard that Amber Glenn worked successfully on a neuro therapy which helped her , so she is now able to calm down and stabelize her nerves and show her Program with a 3 axel. Please JSF help your gifted skaters.

So, Yuma' WHY are you missing jumps lately??? Sigh. A bit worrisome ... but I don't care. He is STILL my favorite men's singles skater right now. Can anyone even HEAR his blades? Incredible edges and knees ...
He and Ilia, and all the other men here, are dealing with the pressure of suddenly being the frontrunners as Olympic medalist hopefuls, National Champions, etc. at young ages. There's a lot of pressure on these young men, and it will take them time to figure it out. I know everyone here can do these jumps - these mistakes are largely mental (although Yuma had an "oopsie slipped off an edge" on that axel, so not all mental. some of it is just slippery ice).
