2024-25 Austrian Nationals

Looking forward to the senior pairs encounter. What are the selection criteria for the European Championship?

Just looked at the entries, and wanted to point out a few things I spotted.

Full contingent of the Ruis family entered:

  • Natalie / Leo in Basic Novice Pairs
  • Leo in Intermediate Novice Men
  • Anna in Advanced Novice Ladies
  • Daniel in Junior Men

Given that they are not entered in Junior Pairs, I take it this is confirmation that Anna and Daniel are now concentrating fully on Singles Skating.

Basic Novice Pairs, Junior Ice Dance, and Senior Ice Dance are all family affairs. As well as the two younger Ruis siblings, the Basic Novice Pairs entry list is completed by the Aschl siblings (both of whom are doing the double - Raphaela is competing in Intermediate Novice Ladies, while Jonathan is the sole entry in Advanced Novice Men). But, unfortunately, there is no opposition for Anita & Andreas Straub in Junior Ice Dance, or for Corinna & Patrik Huber in Senior Ice Dance.

However, Corinna Huber is also competing with her other brother Dominik in the Special Olympics Unified Pair Skating - Level 2 competition, where they do have opposition. (Dominik is also doing the double, being the sole entry in the Special Olympics Men's Singles - Level 4 competition).

The Schaller sisters are also both in action, with Flora-Marie in Senior Ladies and Sophia in Senior Pairs (with Livio Mayr).

:cheer: ALL THE BEST EVERYBODY!!! :cheer:

Just a preview of the current standing:

Gabriella Izzo / Luc Maierhofer163.82150.6314.42
Sophia Schaller / Livio Mayr159.29144.46303.75
Oh wow, that's closer than expected, not to mention the new kids are in the lead currently. :drama: Now I'm wondering if I should buy the stream after all to watch the show down.

What's happened to Hanna Frank? I've just been looking at the entries/results and she seems to be missing.

Update:

Gabriella Izzo / Luc Maierhofer163.82150.6159.03473.45
Sophia Schaller / Livio Mayr159.29144.46168.71472.46

So despite Schaller/Mayr beating Izzo/Maierhofer by ~9 points both times the two teams competed against each other, Izzo/Maierhofer should be selected for Euros based on the official selection criteria.

Both teams will have to skate one ISU competition between Euros and Worlds for the Worlds selection criteria, so hopefully Schaller/Mayr will be able to finally drop the 144.46 and replace it with a higher score.

Schaller/Mayr certainly have better chances of making it to the free skating at Worlds. Their pair elements are better. Double twist and no death spiral aren't doing Izzo/Maierhofer any favor in either TES or PCS.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan especially of Luc and always cheered him on as a singles skater. I love that he is now continuing his career in pairs, but I don't think it's the right choice to send Gabby and him over Sophia/Livio to the ISU Championships at this point in their development.

So they indeed named Izzo and Maierhofer to compete in the European Championships.
That's bold given one mistake and they're not making the free skate.

There will be at most 18 pairs teams at Euros, all teams will advance to the Free (cut-off is 20 for all ISU Champs now, not just Worlds).

I double-checked the Special Regulations 2024, 20 only applies to Worlds still under Rule 520 paragraph 2. It was the change back to 16 that was eliminated with the qualifying rounds.
Based on the result of the Short Program/Rhythm Dance, the Competitors placed 1-24 in Single Skating 1-16 in Pair Skating (1-20 in Pair Skating at World Championships) and 1-20 in Ice Dance only shall qualify for the final Free Skating/Free Dance.

You're right, I went back and when they rolled back the implementation of the qualification rounds, they also binned the two proposals to increase the cut-off to 20 for all ISU Championships instead of just Worlds.

But still, with at most 18 entries, only 2 teams will be cut.
Apart from Warsaw Cup, which was a real disaster with way more than one mistake, I/M's SP scores have been one mid-47 score and two mid-51 scores.
Gunnarsdottir/Piazza's highest score for example is in the low 47s, while the Crafoords and Faula/Belle have a similar spread of scores as Izzo/Maierhofer. Will be interesting to watch for sure.
