2025 Ephesus Cup | Jan 20-26

I just had another look at the Fed's website, and there have been two more notices of condolence posted.

One of them was for a politician and the son of a court official.

The other was for some relatives of Basic Novice Ladies skater Idil Rubab BİLEN (Rink Results Bio).

Her uncle, his wife and their daughter were killed in the fire.

Idil's cousin, Ayşe Maya DOĞAN, was a talented pianist, and here is a beautiful video of her playing three pieces in London in 2023:

My thoughts go out to their family and friends.

Right, the Entries / Results page has been updated. The competitions will take place today, but it will start in the evening rather than the morning.

Here are the updated times:

Time Schedule
(Local Time, UTC +03:00)

Hope this helps

Today's livestream came on air for a few minutes with the following message (in Turkish and in English) on screen:

Our condolences to Turkey. We pray for the souls of the citizens who lost their lives in the fire at a hotel in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort, and wish patience and strength to their families. We also wish a speedy recovery to the injured. Due to this incident, the live bradcast of the Ephesus Cup 2025 competition will not take place.

It then showed the Turkish flag flying above the rink, and zoomed out to show the skaters and officials standing while a lament was played on a bugle.

The message was then displayed again. And then the stream ended.

Looking at the livescoring page for the Junior Free Dance, the competition is actually going ahead. It just isn't going to be broadcast.

I wonder if that is just for today, or for the rest of the event.

Even if it isn't being broadcast, I hope for the sake of the skaters and their families that it is still filmed, and that they are provided with copies of the performances.

Does anybody know what has happened with Burak DEMIRBOĞA (TUR)?

Early yesterday afternoon, he was replaced in the Provisional Entry List for the European Championships by Alp Eren ÖZKAN (TUR). And then last night, he was a withdrawal from the Free Skate here.

Burak had been 3rd in the SP, while Alp Eren had been 2nd. But there was a 9.94 point gap between them.

This is not usual. Before this season, Alp Eren had never scored higher than Burak during a season. He consistently scored a lot lower than Burak. But, at both the Budapest Trophy and Nationals, Alp Eren finished ahead of Burak.

I wonder if Burak has a pre-existing injury, which he was trying to skate through. But has found it too difficult and admitted defeat yesterday.

Whatever the case, I hope he's alright and that there's nothing serious.

I remember Burak having back problems at Nebelhorn...

I remember Burak having back problems at Nebelhorn...

Thank you. So, it sounds like he is dealing with an ongoing issue.

I wish him all the best with his recovery.

Hopefully he will be back to full fitness in time for the Olympic qualifying at the next Nebelhorn.

Olympic qualifying is not at the Nebelhorn trophy. There is a separate competition which will be held in China in September.

Oh. I thought it was always the Nebelhorn.

Well, I hope he is fully fit for it then! ;)

Still don't agree that there should be qualifying for the Olympics. It should be like the other Majors, where if a country has a skater / partnership that meets all the requirements, the country gets a slot. But, the IOC is trying to decrease the number of people that they have to house, so we don't have that system.

And just while I'm here, it looks like we will have a stream today.

Hopefully it will start on time today, as I have a dentist's appointment his morning and want to see as much as I can beforehand.

After yesterday's competitions were not broadcast as a mark of respect to those that died in the tragedy of the day before, broadcasting resumes today.

Today starts with an Advanced Novice Singles double-bill, and then concludes with a Junior Singles double-bill. In each case, it is girls then boys.

Livestream for the Advanced Novice Ladies SP is now on air.

Here is the link to today's livestream:

You can find all the other links you may need in the OP of this thread.

Hope this helps

:cheer: ALL THE BEST EVERYBODY!!! :cheer:

Now that was a surprise.

I was going to comment about not having any "Voilàs" so far this week, and then having two already in this opening group. But then the second skater using it, Diana Alexandra ZIESECKE (DEU), threw in a curve ball.

In the middle of the programme, she switched to an Édith Piaf song, and had a costume change, going from a black dress to a gold dress.

That was a really enjoyable programme!

She goes into the lead. But only by 0.20 points! :drama:

Although Mayuka SÜESS (CHE) was wearing a white dress, she made sure her presence was felt, skating to "Let's Get Loud" by Jennifer Lopez.

She went into a massive lead! 10.94 points ahead of the previous leader, Diana Alexandra ZIESECKE (DEU).

And that advantage was nearly all down to the TES. Mayuka was 9.61 points ahead of Diana on TES alone. 😲

WOW! #7 Salma ELSAKKA (EGY), #8 Indra JEANNETTE RAMONICH (FRA), and #9 Leyla ÇETIN (TUR) have all withdrawn! :jaw:

So, we go straight from the first skater in Group 2, to the last skater of the segment.

Don't know what the music was that Elif UĞURAL (TUR) was skating to, but I was surprised to find it worked.

She finished in 6th position.

CaroLiza_fan

Ah good. They are bringing the boys out straight away, and extending what was originally a 1 hour break between the Advanced Novices and the Juniors.

That means I won't miss any skating because of my dental appointment!

CaroLiza_fan

Awwww. The first of the three Turkish boys, Batu TASASIZ, must have his whole family sitting with him for getting his results!

Well, he is a local boy from here in İzmir.

I think he needs the support, though. By the end of the programme, it looked like he had given up.

CaroLiza_fan

Sarp ALISBAH (TUR) started off skating to "Also Sprach Zarathustra"!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

But, then it went weird when it went onto different pieces. Or, at least, the editing did. It was a mess.

He goes into 2nd position.

And that is it, because #3 Kaan SANAL (TUR) has withdrawn.

See you in 1h 15m for the start of the Juniors.

CaroLiza_fan

Phew. Back just in time.

Juniors starting now.

And we have a depleted opening group of girls. #4 Selin AKBULUT (TUR) and #5 Sabina ALIEVA {AZE) have withdrawn.

Hope there is nothing up with them.

CaroLiza_fan

The Advanced Novices started with a "Voilà" programme. And now the Juniors start with a "Voilà" programme. Although, this one that Zeynep Naz DOĞAN (TUR) is skating to is a cover. And not a good cover either.

She is wearing a black dress with a low neckline.

Actually, the skating wasn't bad.

Into the lead. Obviously.

But we've a long way to go in this competition.

CaroLiza_fan

Don't think I've seen Maria NAVARRO BRITO (ZAF) before. But, she was interesting.

She was skating to music from "Chicago". But, it wasn't the pieces we usually see being skated to.

She never stopped smiling the whole time she was skating!

She did seem to be enjoying herself out there. And I enjoyed it too!

She goes into 3rd position.

Very big gaps between each of the 3 skaters we have had so far. But, I'm sure they will be filled in by the time we get to the end of the segment.
