Ladies LP

Here's an example:

Pause it at 7:07 and you will clearly see she's on an outside edge.

^ you mean when the commentators say...

"Whenever Yuna's performance is replayed, it always shows the close-up look of her edges as if to show the viewers how the textbook jump is done. What do you think?"

"... yes, yes indeed!" (--> and this lady is a figure skating coach/judge herself)

Oh, this will never end. Let's discuss about nude LIPS color of the skaters :p?
Apart from Miki and Yuna in FS, everyone else wore nude LIPS.

From what I saw on videos,

Yu-Na skate well. She could have got a call on ur for her triple/double/double, but her choreography and interpretation came shining through. It also looks like Yu-Na grew, but it could be because of her carriage and she is too me finally showing maturity in her skating. She is understanding the music a lot better and interpreting it better.

Yukari skate decent and her score reflected that. Personally I don't see how her score could get much higher. No major errors

Miki did a good job of skating . Too me she is still skating a bit reserved but better carriage and interpretation.

Rachel good job in the long , I can see her ur in the triple/triple. However not like in the sp practice program --her choreography and interpretation didn't come
through like it show. She seems to me to be skating a bit more grown-up. She skated a bit reserved in this program.I also am not sure but i would have ur her triple/double/double as well.

Mirai--the costume makes her look like a little kid, no intrepretation and choroegraphy. The urs was valid in all her jumps and if they didn't I would have ur her triple/double/double as well. She skated reserved and childlike .
The jumps could have been because of the (injury)-or not.
If she is she should not skate at Nhk.

Kimberly--to me she is not emoting enough and she should slow down a half a beat. Why because she is skating too fast for me to notice any interpretation or choroegraphy. Also she had the jumped but she didn't checked her landing/going a bit too fast to check.

That is my take. Also all the US women skaters looked like they was fighting for it.

Decent job by all skaters

The woman's competition was really not that exciting to me at all. I really don't know why.

So I am going to say something really simple here now.....the scores that Yu-Na got were so hight. I wonder if anyone will even come close to beating her this season??

Mao Asada?

Tarasova said if Mao skates clean, nobody can beat her. Put your faith in Tarasova.

Yu Na is overly overrated. She still does not have a loop, and she is a lipper.

One skater dominating the field takes away suspense and tension on these competitions so that's part of the reasons why some are complaining about Yuna's high scores. As for anybody challenging her, I think Mao and Carolina, and hopefully Caroline (can't wait to see her skate this week) can definately do that..

I'm so tired of this. First of all Scott and Sandra where looking at the same slow motion clip we saw,and called it perfect technique.

Second, Buttle does the same thing looking at the clip, has he ever gotten hit with a lip. There's talk that Miki's fixed her lip to the point where it know looks like Yu-na's, I don't think she's getting hit either.

Why don't instead of people saying the judges are being soo unfair by not calling Yu-na on this, why don't people look and see if others (who have similar (and maybe slight lips/flutzs get called too). IF they don't then leave it the hell a lone, and stop talking about punishing Yu-na while ignoring people like Daisuke.

Mirai Nagasu is another one who has a slight flutz that rarely gets called. This rule is about hitting the OBVIOUS cases that can be seen in real time. It's not about going after people in slow motion.

I have been refusing to get involved in the discussion of Yuna's flip/lip (whichever you call it), but what you have said is exactly what I have been thinking all this time. I have noticed a lot of other skaters whose flips are no different from Yuna's and do not get hit with a lip. What I'm afraid of is that this debate might get intensified after Mao's performance in Paris. She claims that she has corrected her flutz (Tarasova says that 7 out of 10 times Mao uses a correct edge now), and if she still gets called for a wrong edge, her overzealous fans will claim biased judging in favor of Yuna. If she doesn't get hit with a flutz, then Yuna's overzealous fans will likely bombard the youtube site with close-up slow-motion shots of Mao's lutz. I just hate even to think about this..

Does Mao have a triple-sal? I think it will be very close between Mao and Yu Na. I think Yu Na's jumps are better--tighter and more aesthetically pleasing, especially on the late program combos. If Mao does and completes her triple axel, Tatiana is probably right. But Mao is hardly consistent with that jump and, if the judges start penalizing Yu Na on her alleged lip, one would hope that they also start penalizing Mao for her flutzes.

Mao does a combo, 3Lz and 3S. It's pretty clear that she does have a high, clean and aesthetically pleasing 3S if you follow her practice videos, one can only hope she lands them in competition to silence all the naysayers.

I don't know how you compare Yuna and Mao's jumps, but they are both aesthetically pleasing to me, Mao also has very tight, fast turns and good air position on her late program combos/jumps.

As for whether Mao still flutzes as badly, anyone care to do a slo-mo of her lutz?

Here's a Japanese special feature on Mao's flutz and her journey to correct it.

She's landing them in practice. That's why if both Mao and Yu-na are clean and Mao hits her triple axel she really should win . The thing though is Mao's triple axel is inconsistent and at times her 3/3's can be underrotated...

I think it's more likely that on most occassions Yu-na will go clean. Mao's triple axel is really inconsistent in competition.

It's funny. Yu-Na's weak jump is her loop. Mao's weak jump is her salchow. Mao flutzes. Yu-Na lips, according to some. So, Yu-Na can do the salchow and Mao can do the loop. Mao can do the flip perfectly and Yu-Na can do the lutz perfectly. Mao has done all the combos Yu-Na has, whereas the latter has not done Mao's combos. Mao also has the triple axel over Yu-Na and has more finished, graceful positions on her spins and spirals.

Are they pretty much even? That's open to discussion.

Actually when it involves a change of skating blade for spins, I'd say Yuna is smoother. But her spins in Skate America LP are a tad worrying to me. I hope Mao's 3A gets landed more often this season, even though 3A is a difficult jump that even the men are happy to land.

YU-NY's FLIP IS No LIP. Definitely.

Yes Mao has better positions but Yu-na has much better musical interpertation and expression. They are just about even artistically for me.

Mao's combos have been downgraded though on several occassions. Her triple flip/triple toe is not as solid as Yu-na's is nor was Moa's double axel/triple toe. And her triple flip/triple loop has been downgraded on many occassions too.

At her best with everything fully rotated and the triple axel landed nobody can beat Mao.. However, the fact is that Mao's triple axel is inconsistent i think she landed only one clean one last year and her 3/3's being rotated can be inconsistent too.

No Yu-na can't do a triple flip/triple loop combo (maybe that will change) but I bet Mao would have trouble with a salchow combo.
