OK, got home from dog club dinner and suffered through J/T on demand group 3. Used Fast forward. Tonight, I made sure I book marked World feed mens free. Bens audio levels were terrible during much of the dance. So happy that the last group of men in the SP brought their A game. I dont understand J's graphic on Andrew's quad landing but what the heck. Maybe I dont understand which way he was a goin?

During one of his fluffs on NBC, he alluded to 7 without saying it. Of course, that could have been intended as a ratings boost. Prior to this week, the online chatter seemed to indicate he'd be scaling down considerably.

I think it's a game day call. He had a buffer at GPF, so that was a decent time to give it a try. He's got an even bigger gap here, but what's the point of doing it non-internationally? Unless he wants to further terrify the opposition.

I would like to see Ilia actually skate clean at Nationals for the first time since 2022. He can easily win Nationals with half of his planned content, give himself a rest, and actually skate clean at this event for a change. Hopefully, he will follow that strategy and perhaps even put the focus more on his performance and non-jump elements. He has proven he can do this in exhibition; for example, in the “Lovely” program.

I actually hope he doesn't go for 7, and I said the same thing at the Grand Prix Final. I've seen Ilia skate both these programs in practice, and they are so good when he just marks the jumps (especially the free skate). When he skates with 7 quads in the free, he really disconnects until all of the jumps are done - it's a glaring difference from how he skates in practice. I think it would be really smart to play it safe with 4-5 quads and show off just how good of a performer he can be, and how much his PCS scores have improved. I know he wants to go for 7 quads in the free skate, and he needs to practice with that layout, but he's admitted to dealing with equipment issues and some minor injuries heading into Nationals and I'd much rather he play it safe here, avoid potential injury, and prove to the judges and the world that he truly is a good skater. This may be a hot take, but I don't enjoy watching Ilia for his jumps. I enjoy watching his skating because of his unique approach to his programs and his showmanship, and I think that going all-out for his layout really detracts from that.

Brown will get the spot for World's (the equipment will be broken in by then), Ilia is a lock for the win here, so the rest of the field is literally fighting for the one remaining spot at World's. This is going to be a real test of their nerves! Can't wait!

That was the impression that I got, too. That Ilya had been coached by the TV people as to what to say.

Still, it will be very interesting to me to see how he plays it. He can't lose no matter what he does or doesn't do (a twenty-point lead on the field). What message does he want to send? Will it be, "You can't touch this, all you wannabes" and do 7 quads? Or will he say , "I am an artist and a complete skater -- put THAT in your pipe and smoke it!"
