2025 European Championships Men's Short Program

And now that I’ve seen the protocols, the biggest surprise is that exactly ONE skater got a fully clean program (no rotation edge/issues, pops or dropped levels) and it was Andreas Nordebäck.
And still he only had 12th PCS score, which reflects more his starting number than his actual skating. I say it again, the judges still uses PCS as a placement score, just like in the old judging system.

Nika was the star of the session a little unlucky that the PCS gap was so wide. It was an ordinary skate by Adam's usual standard. With all the mistakes skaters are making, if Nika can land 7 out of 7 jumps clean he probably wins it.

Kevin is usually around 46+ PCS in a SP when he is on. Complaining about a crappy 41.68 given to him is rather comical. Rarely can a skater rise up off the ice still in motion as fast as Kevin after a fall. I'm fine with the big hit to his normally high PCS. Stop the conspiracy theories, thanks.

A shame Aleksandr Selevko couldn't do better with that great SP choreo. So much great energy there but he needs to work on the technical.

Loved the grand knee slide in Adam's program, but it looks like that right ankle may still be sensitive. He doesn't land a 4S like that. Lost some points and a 'q' on his open, but overall I like the program much better than at the beginning of the season. Good to see him skating again, it's a pleasure to watch.

The “all clean” was about the technical elements. I actually agree with the judges here that he deserved the 7.3ish average on PCS. The tech execution not matching the PCS is a feature, not a bug.

There was a lot of people over/underscored on PCS, but his score actually felt bang on.

I'm sorry, and I know this will generate a tempest in a teapot...

But Kevin did not deserve the second highest PCS for this effort. YES he's typically a beautiful skater, but the mistakes DID impact the overall quality of the program. There were several instances of him just slogging around the ice - enough that I feared he might get an interruption deduction - and the energy and spark of the program were lost.

I get that this was not a field of John Curry's out there, but 41+ in PCS for that is ridiculous.
Yeah Kevin had an awful performance. I didn't really look at his scores because he's such a non factor, but wow 41 is nuts! They really look after him.

Can you honestly contrast Kevin's and Adam's performances and think, "yeah, give Adam the PCS win, but by less than two points?"

I'm not confident in any of the favourites. Most of them struggled to land more then 1 out 3 jump elements clean. I think Egadze has a chance at victory maybe Memola on the podium too.

He didn't give the judges much choice he had the highest TES by far and nailed all his jumps. He took it out of the judges which a lot of people who like manipulated outcomes hate.
And he deserved that tech score! Best jumps of the night and solid spins/stsq. He still has a long way to go on components, but I was happy for him that he managed to be so clean knowing how he struggles with consistency.

I think that to a great extent, this has been a lower scoring event because the tech panel has been relatively strict, and also because the judges are not throwing out unreasonably high PCS and GOE.

I thought this was true in the pairs event as well, although to be fair I haven't watched all of that.

I think it's more to do with words from Charlie Chaplin's speech in The Great Dictator movie ( best speech ever!)
Thank you for pointing that out. It's words from The Great Dictator speech translated in a lot of languages on his shirt (I still think that from afar it looks like a prisoner uniform ), while he expresses some of the concepts in sign language in the choreo.

Well it appears that I slept through a whole forest of prickles and thorns... who do people suggest I go back and watch? Should I avoid Kevin for the sake of my sanity? I did see the practice of Adam's slide (I like slides) so may check that...

(and thank you @anonymoose_au for alerting me to SBS, have bookmarked for future)

I was watching about half an hour behind the live stream - I couldn't watch all of Kevin's SP. Don't know why I'm so invested, I find the public meltdowns inappropriate but he is such a wonderful skater and I love his programmes and choreography.

The forum crashed on me by the end, but I'm so glad Adam had a good skate. This SP really works better than the mess from before, even though he turned down the difficulty on the jumps. I just love how he moves and the slice was great. Very Benoit, but it works for Adam.

Other than him, I really liked both Selevkos, Deniss despite the costly first mistake and Matteo best.

Just watched Adam. It's much better than in Nice and I love the slide. My boy is on a camp with his club but when he comes back, I will show the slide to him - he just recently learned some basic slides and loved it, so will probably try to do this slide himself :ROFLMAO:
