Are Evan and Johnny going in the wrong direction?

She does prerotate. Just like everyone else who is a human being on planet Earth and not an ectoplasmic creature from another galaxy.

But, she certainly pre-rotates less than the norm, so that's commendable.

Yu-na does not prerotate toe jumps.

Of course She prerotates edge jumps(e.g. double loop combination) but less than the norm.

So from now on, will all threads, sooner or later, descend into Mao's allegedly mistakes versus Yu-Na's alleged mistakes?
*grumble* At least Michelle only took over all the threads in the summer...

Thank for posting these clips. And thanks to Blades of Passion for explaining the point about rotation in the air, meaning after the picking foot has also completely left the ice.

In the first three clips, I see very little pre-rotation of the skating edge, but she makes more than a quarter turn before the pick is complete and both feet are in the air.

Is this right?

So am I getting this right? Edge jusmps must be pre-rotated for real, because you can't get that pre-rotation while vaulting into the air like you can with a toe jump.

(I am not asserting anything in this post, just asking.)

I'm not sure what that means but if one toes off at 6 o'clock (figureatively) within micro seconds his other foot matches the toe off and should soar off. The jump is correct for its beginnings. What happens in the air and landing is another story.

The Edge Jumps, too, should begin on either a back outside or back insde edge and the skater should start ascending at the 6:00 deadline. Of course the sport has become sissified in recent years with cries of 'it's hard' and judges, imo, do not compare against perfection, so one can see just about anything in the way of schooled free style definitions.

So goes the all powerful Air Turns as being the most important factor in skate jumping. Beats even barrel jumping.

It's hard to decipher exactly what you just said, but it seems like you're agreeing that jumps don't need to leave the ice until a half a turn in (I'm not sure where the "sissy" part relates).

Think of a clock which is like a circle which is the basic position in figure skating. You are correct in that in doesn't have to be at 6 o'clock. What I left out was that the landing of the jump is also at 6 o'clock It could be at any other number on the clock provided the rotation ends on the same place as the take off.

When something is difficult for students, say a true lutz, they seem to want the flutz to be considered a true jump. Sissified is my word turning skating into an easy sport.

Oh dear.

I'm afraid that makes no sense.

After you've left the ice, facing the direction your back originally was, you don't want to then rotate 3 times. Such a thing would be an underrotated Quad.

Let us use Dick Button as an example. I'm sure he was not a sissy by your standard?

The first Triple jump ever, a 3Loop:

He leaves the ice facing away from the camera and then lands facing the camera. 2.5 rotations in the air.

But seriously Joe - how can that be right? Take the example of the toe-loop. The basic teaching of the jump is very clear. Once you pick in - you push off the ice with the picking in foot and kick it through. This is essential for all versions of the jump in order to gain any height and length but is imperative for any multi-revolution version of the jump. How is it possible to kick that free leg through without some twisting on the toe-pick? It would not be physically possible to have one leg with the pick in at six o' clock and have the other leg pointing back in on itself kicking back and through? This all happens in a split second and usually in about a quarter turn on the pick.
