Exactly, I also thought about ski jumping analogy. The only logic would be that you need to complete both segments to be ranked but often some skaters don't even qualify to free skate and still they are ranked. No sense at all but it's figure skatingI'm with you on this. It shouldn't matter whether it is made up of 1 score or 2 scores, a higher score is a higher score.
That is how it works in Ski Jumping. If somebody's combined score after both of their jumps is lower than the score of somebody who has only done their first jump, then the jumper that did 2 jumps goes behind the jumper that did 1 jump.
But things work in strange ways in figure skating.

Yeah, I see what you mean.
By the way, I did a search for a pigeon feather shirt to illustrate this post. And although I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, I smiled when I saw this:

He has to win AWG, or podium at the "normal" oplympics. Can anyone enlighten me what's going on with Jun and military exemption? Does he need to win this particular competition to get it? Or podium is enough?

Thanks for clarifying. Wow, that's not going to be easy with Yuma, but I guess he's quite motivated. He has to win AWG, or podium at the "normal" oplympics.
