Dube / Davison just skated.

The triple twist was no better today, jumps were good, triple lutz throw was good and throw triple loop a bit shaky

116.40, best score so far

Somebody needs to inject D&D with some excitement. That was still so dull. Even with the tons of mistakes, I much preferred M&B.

Mclaughin/Brubaker
She opened up the triple sow and stepped out of triple toe. He doubled the toe and hands down on sow. Side by side spins not synchronized. Throws and lifts good.

I really like their attack, they seem much faster than D/D. She has wonderful positions in the lifts.

Score 100.85
they are currently 2nd

I saw virtually nothing in D/D's LP that said "Carmen," until perhaps the very end with the pairs spin. Still no transitions anywhere, and they don't show much relation to one another in the performance. Maybe that will come with time, but I found it very dull.

I didn't either.

My feed chose to die during K/S! :(

Kawaguchi / Smirnov
3t 3t sequence - he doubled first jump
throws are good, they didn't try the quad sow
he looked exhausted at the end of the program
this couple is not my favourite, i thought the program was a bit blah...

Score 111.95 (3rd)
they came in 1st overall

I simply cannot digest most of K/S programes... And why are their outfits always so horrible?

D/D program was not super special, but there is something special about Jessica, and I dont know what that is.

K/S need major costume tune up. I've never liked their costumes , particularly hers.

Thanks for the reports, aarower! I was rooting for either Yuko & Alexander or Jessica & Bryce to win, so I am pleased. Congrats to all the medalists!

I enjoy K/S but I must agree why do their costumes never match?

You must have missed their matching bubble gum/cotton candy colored costumes from their 2007 Worlds LP.

Smirnov's costume was just standard-issue Russian sailor. He's worn far worse than that.

But I see I got my hopes up too high after the SP for Yuko. She looks about half her real age as it is. Wearing childish costumes does not help. Especially if the man is chasing the woman or there is fighting in the story being skated ... the ick factor is too high for me.

The skating was shaky in spots as well. Not as good as in the short. I might have given this one to D/D. I think Moskvina had given it to D/D too. She didn't seem exactly happy in the kiss n cry.

That officially made me dislike matching costumes; the memory is still enough to make me shudder.

I definitely think the crash between M/B and K/S had something to do with how they performed. Especially M/B who ended up about 14 points under their LP score from a week ago.

D/D a bit overscored IMO.

And the Canadian Bashing continues! I can only imagine how it would be received if the American skaters were bashed as much as the Canadians are on here! OK we get the point - all US skaters are better then the Canadian skaters! The only set back is the judges just haven't come to realize it yet!

Actually I believe D&D's long program is much better than their SP. The lack of transition and choreography in their SP is pretty shocking considering they're world bronze medalists if we quantify("count") these transitions and do a comparison.

just do a little quantification on thesophisticated choreography.

Counting their 'choreography', there's this beginning pose, a little bit 'hand-waving' going into the sbs spins. Transition? The only obvious transition is the difficult entrance going into the sbs jump. The only innovative big element is their spiral. There is absolutely NO choreography/links between their elements except stroking and occasionally hand waving.

Let's take another look at M&B's choreography.

little dancing->innovative combo spins ->another little dancing->lift->stroking->sbs jump->dancing->difficult entry into twist immediately into innovative spiral->a little dance lift into->sbs spins->another little dancing ->stroking->throw->dancing lift->death spiral->another little dancing to end.

There is NO comparison in D&D's SP and M&B's SP in terms of sophistication of choreography and transition. D&D's programs are generally very bareboned, all they do is selling so called 'chemistry' to adoring fans.

K&S's SP.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgTl4y-60OE
opening dancing->dancing lift into sbs jump->a little 'gliding'->dancing lift into twist->a little mirror step->dancing lift into throw->stroking with good arm movement-> lift->innovative 'squat' entry into death spiral->sbs spins->stroking->innovative spiral->combo spin to end.

When you break down the entire program into pieces, you can really notice the big difference between the programs in terms of sophistication and difficulty. If PCS can be qualitifiable like this, it might be less subjective.

D/d

I totally agree ,there is no life in their programs, always the same look from bryce, and no inovative lifts... same old boring ones... oh well,,,, the russians were great other than the fact that they missed their jumps.......

I thought it was a rather boring free skate overall. Out of the top 3 teams, M/B were the more interesting pair. My favourite bits of the freeskate were Brodeur/Matattal's Gone With the Wind and the first minute or so of Dong/Wu's (before they completely went out of steam.) I'm disappointed in K/S though. I really liked their SP yesterday, but their freeskate wasn't nearly as good. But congrats to them for taking the gold and to other medalists too.
