I'm really into artistic sports, and I assume a lot of people on this forum are, too. Can you help? I'm struggling to find a similar Golden Skate forum for fans of rhythmic gymnastics. All I've found so far is another site threads. I think Golden Skate has a really nice thing going here: a place where fans can discuss any and everything related to figure skating. Is there something out there for rhythmic gymnastics?

The last I heard there wasn't. My daughter was into rhythmics in high school and university; I dabbled a bit as an adult beginner because just sitting around watching her and others isn't my thing. Now she's long out of that and none of her own daughters were keen on the sport, so she just watches it when she can find some on TV. From time to time both she and I have looked for a fan forum but so far haven't found one.

However, we've got sub-groups here on GS for fans of artistic gymnastics and roller skating, so why not do the same here with rhythmics?

RG fan since 2012 here, I had the same question when I resumed watching RG actively in 2018 after life settled down. The short answer is that while there are/were a few non-English RG forums (e.g. Russian rg4u.clan.su, Italian Beatrice Vivaldi (closed)) an English RG forum is has not been in existence for at least 7 years, fans are on social media like twitter and instagram or on Telegram chats but there isn't a site that acts as an international fandom hub as GS does with FS. Probably because unlike AG (or to be precise, WAG), RG is far from major in the US (or any other anglophone country for that matter) so there isn't enough demand for people to gather and run a forum. Like, I can see a Spanish-speaking RG forum coming in existence (a lot of RG fans on twitter are Spanish speakers, including the ones who archive videos/run streams/etc. and thus have a following) but I don't see an English-speaking RG forum happening any time soon. Maybe if something miraculous happens, for instance, my US fave Rin Keys winning Olympic gold, then maybe, but as much as I adore Rin it is unlikely to happen so

There is already a RG thread on GS (https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/threads/rhythmic-gymnastics.98805/), made in time for Paris 2024, but as you can see not much people were on it, and it was the Olympics. If I start discussing WC Sofia soon to take place in Bulgaria there, I'll probably be talking to myself. It's sad but it is what it is.

Yes, even when my daughter and I were involved in it the big countries were Spain and Bulgaria. That was why CBC was caught flat-footed when Lori Fung won the gold at the 1984 Olympics. They hadn't even been filming the event and had to borrow footage from a European network to show on Canadian news.

You'll be talking to me at least if you are able to watch the competition and report on it. I probably won't be able to get it out on the Pacific coast in Canada. We can revive the Olympics thread. :ghug:

Oh, so the World Championships are coming up soon? I don't know the schedule of RG like I do figure skating.
Is margarita kolosov still competing? She suffered such a devastating blow at 2024 olympics, losing bronze to a girl who dropped the apparatus twice. It was sad seeing her cry.
Do you know if Barbara domingos or Alexandra Aguigugalesis are still competing?

No, rhythmic gymnastics season just got started and Worlds will be in August in Brazil. WC is short for World Cup, which is a high profile event, usually with many top gymnasts competing, but it's not a world championships. More like a Figure Skating Grand Prix.

Margarita Kolosov is still competing and I think she will keep going at least until 2026, since Worlds 2026 will be in Germany. While losing bronze to Sofia Raffaeli in Paris was heartbreaking for her, it is still her career's best result and she can be extremely proud of 4th place.

Not to yourself, but yeah, apart from us two there probably wouldn't be very many people interested.

Marga is still competing, she's going to be taking part in the Gymnastik International this weekend (only with hoop and ball), like a lot of other German rhythmic gymnasts (Darja is doing ball and ribbon, Nastya Simakova is doing all apparatuses). Also, Liliana Lewinska will be there too.

Babi Domingos is still competing & Alex is trying to come back, though we'll see how that works with the Italian gymnastics federation.

cool!!! I'm Rg fans since 2005 , is great and i love it and is nice that there's a topic about it here.

Not to yourself, but yeah, apart from us two there probably wouldn't be very many people interested.
So we are three and maybe more. Nice i don't feel alone .

about Barbara Domingo last time i seen her in person was at Panam. Games 2023 at Santiago , Chile and was great her routines , well the Brazilian rg style we used to see (very technical)

It would be a nice idea add a post in off topic beside the existent topic in "Olympics games 2024"

I don't know if you seen miss Valentine Cup ?

Definitely, we'd even have a topic of conversation tomorrow already (Gymnastik International will be live streamed but might be geoblocked).

Some routines, but not everything and not live, and unfortunately 3 of the 4 streams have been blocked due to copyright by now.

Taisiia looked pretty good for so early in the season, she kept her hoop and ribbon from last year. Polisha looks so grown up now, very classical Ukrainian style, hoping she'll be able to gain some consistency this season, her lines and plasticity are beautiful. Loved Meghan Chu's energy and choreography, and was also really impressed by the top Juniors, it will be so fun to see (some of) them at Junior Worlds this season ☺️

I can see you're going to be way ahead of me and I have to get on a learning curve! I know, in a bumbling beginner way, how to do the sport, and love to watch it when it's well-done, but I don't know any of the current competitors by name at all.

If you stick to watching semi-regularly, you'll learn soon enough

Polina Karika (UKR) & Meghan Chu (USA) aren't technically currently top gymnasts, but definitely top gymnasts within their countries. Polina's biggest achievement is a silver team medal at Euros and a gold team and ball medal at Junior European, as well as placing 5th in the AA at Euros in 2023. Meghan is a three-time Pan American Senior medalist & 14-time Junior Pan-Am medalist.

Taisiia Onofriichuk (UKR) is the most successful of the ones I mentioned, she is the reigning European bronze medalist in hoop, the reigning Junior World silver medalist in clubs and has won 7 World Cup medals. She placed 8th in the AA at Euros and 9th at the Olympics last season.

Wait a second, these rhythmic gymnastics competitions all happen during the spring and summer?!? This seems like the perfect sport to start watching during the skating off-season! I am someone who enjoys watching it during the Olympics, but has only the faintest idea of how to watch it outside the Olympics (if only there was a website like So You Want To Watch Figure Skating out there for rhythmic gymnastics...). So which YouTube channels do you need to subscribe to in order to see rhythmic gymnastics competitions? Are the competitions usually geoblocked in the US?

Yes, basically all of them do :)

And there's the big problem - If there are YT live streams, they are usually hosted on the YT channels of individual federations or organisers, and more often there aren't any YT streams, but streams on other platforms (Euros, for example, were streamed on https://eurovisionsport.com/ last season) or only national TV channels.

The official FIG YT channel has historically uploaded (& sometimes live streamed) the finals from Worlds & Junior Worlds, as well as all performances from qualifications individually. They also have a platform, https://www.figtv.sport/rgppv, where they have streamed World (Challenge) Cup Finals, sometimes with geoblock if I remember correctly.

Ah, so that's why I've only been able to watch a domestic Brazilian rhythmic gymnastics competition recently-- because it randomly showed up on my Youtube feed! It seems pretty inconvenient to find a bunch of individual federation streams! :drama:

The https://www.figtv.sport/rgppv platform appears to be the place where the upcoming championships in April will be streamed, correct? Does one have to pay for a subscription to use the platform or not?

I think the Sofia World Cup Finals will be streamed or uploaded afterwards on this platform, with qualifications likely only being broadcasted on Bulgarian TV channels. Subscription is not needed as far as I know.

Apparently, the Bulgarian fed has also started their own streaming platform (https://brgf.tv/) which does require a subscription.

(And yes, federations are required to have high-quality video systems on site for World (Challenge) Cups, with videos having to be provided to the FIG after the competitions, and despite that many World Challenge Cups are not viewable (anymore).)

The entry lists are also available already on the FIG event page.

This is good information for me because I have not been able to figure out how to watch it ever since they blocked all the YT channels that upload competitions. Actually, the main reason I got into figure skating was because I could not find the RG competitions and needed something else to watch. So, does figtv only stream Worlds and nothing else? Is there any surefire way (VPN or no VPN) to find World Cups and Europeans? (I think those are pretty much all the major comps, right?) Or even US nationals--I am trying to stream from the US btw. It's frustrating that whatever the US gymnastics federation is does not sell access to these competitions. I would pay for them in a heartbeat.

figtv only streams World Cup and World Challenge Cup Finals, and apparently a subscription or payment for individual events is necessary nowadays. 4.99 Euros for each event, 9 Euros per month or 25 Euros for all RG World (Challenge) Cups.

Europeans are streamed on gymtv.online (Junior qualification, last year it cost 3 Euro for the whole event) and on https://eurovisionsport.com/ (Jr finals and Seniors, for free, but only with a registered account). Generally, all info on the European Cup in Baku, the European Cup in Burgas and the European Championships in Tallinn can be found on their respective event pages - Here, here and here.

Worlds was on https://eurovisionsport.com/ last time (2023 WCh was in Valencia, Spain), 2022 WCh were streamed on the FIG YT channel. 2023 Jr Worlds finals were also streamed on the FIG YT channel, not sure about qualifications anymore.

Whoa, I did not expect this thread to get longer while I was preoccupied with Gimnastik International, what a nice surprise! Give me a moment while I switch from mobile to my laptop

I thought so too (I wasn't sure whether you'd be on GS during the RG season so I didn't mention you, apologies), but more people than I expected are interested, which is nice.

If you get Telegram there are two channels that provide competition schedules and streaming info as well as videos of routines and gossip, Gimnasia Mundial (Spanish, but machine translations are enough) and RG Pirates (English, but the owner of the channel is Russian so their English can be off sometimes). In general, as @Jumping_Bean mentioned streams are scattered across Youtube channels, streaming platforms, and regional TV channels.

@Jumping_Bean already answered this, but wanted to add that Telegram is currently the best way to get streaming info (the two channels mentioned above). And while the hero Gutsufan has been repeatedly blocked as of now the channels of Vanessa Freitas (https://www.youtube.com/@vanessafreitasRG), Mahyril (https://www.youtube.com/@Mahyril), and Lyudmila Georgieva (https://www.youtube.com/@smlelena1643) are still up, although I'm not sure whether they'll post full segments as they did before this year as well. And there are many channels that post individual performances that are well and alive, just search the gymnast's name+competition+apparatus(+year).
