Rio Nakata

Why is he called little dragon?
Lol, that's my pet name for him, much like how I sometimes call Shoma "little legend." I doubt other Rio fans have begun to use it. 😂 Yes, it is because he's part Welsh and the Welsh flag has a dragon in it. However, he was also once shorter than he is today. If he gets much taller, I may have to stop calling him "little dragon." 😂

Congratulations to Rio on winning the gold medal at JGP Riga 2025!

His SP:

And his interview after the free:

I can't see his FP on the ISU YouTube channel, don't know if they haven't got round to uploading it yet, or if music copyright issues, or what.

A new interview with Rio I just stumbled upon. I believe this was done before Japan Nationals last year. Basically, he really wants to be the first Japanese man to do a quad axel! Rio mentions that he thinks it would be easier for him to do a 4A than a 4Lz or a 4F because he tends to prerotate too much on those jumps (I've never heard a Japanese skater talk about prerotation before...I always thought it was a bigger concern among fans than skaters themselves?). Also, he hasn't done a 4A in a harness yet... He also mentions that his main rivals are Minkyu Seo, Shun Sato, and Yuma Kagiyama. I may come back to this video to try and translate a little more than that.

All I can say is that I hope he stays healthy on his quad axel quest...🤞

I don't know how were Rio Nakata Lutzes this season, because he didn't have any in his programs, but he's clearly working on them and he clearly doesn't want to get a preortated Flutz, which can only be praised:

And adding translation to this:
"In response to the question about whether there are any players who are a reference for him for Lutz's jumping technique:

Yuzuru Hanyu doesn't use pre-rotation (rotation before jumping up), so he was the one I found most helpful as a reference for myself."

Bravo, Rio!!! :clap::clap::clap:
