Hello!

I am looking for a blade that is within my price range and could carry me through singles. I’m only on Waltz right now and skate 2-3 times a week.

I am on a tight budget and though I know Coronation Ace and MK Pro’s are what many recommend, they are out of my price range unless I buy them used.

I have come across MK 21’s on places like Ebay and it seems they’re a discontinued blade. Does anyone know anything about this blade, like the skill level they’re suited for?

I also have found some MK galaxy blades that are affordable, but I see some pretty mixed reviews. Are they good for what I aspire to do?

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

The MK 21 is a discontinued beginner's blade. The current MK beginner blades (Flight and Galaxy) have an 8' radius main rocker. Older MK beginner blades had a 7' radius main rocker.

What boot and blade (or kit) are you skating on now? Are you planning to keep your current boot, and just change the blade?

I just got a pair of used Chorus boots at my local skate shop. I was unfortunately stuck on jackson softechs up until now, (which i’ve had for a year) due to budget issues. So, anything would be better than what i’ve got now, I think 😬

Can you still return the used Chorus boots?

Used boots + beginner blades will likely not be satisfactory for what you want to do. You'd be better off hitting pause, and putting the money away until you save enough to get the proper gear. I'm sure you won't like this answer.
And you'll be much safer in a new boot and blade set that were properly fitted to your feet at a good skate shop. Even the idea of just stroking slowly round and round at an occasional public session in used boots bought off eBay would make me cringe. For attempting the basics of figure skating? Sorry, but definitely dangerous. Skate boots don't fit like shoes, just by length and width. Used blades could have damage only a blade tech can see, and need to be attached to the boot by a professional for your correct balance, depending on whether you pronate or supinate.

Where do you live? We could suggest a skate shop near you (not the pro shop at your rink) where you could just browse and get your feet professionally measured. Then you'll find out which recommended brand and model of beginner sets you can aim for and start saving up. We're not at all trying to discourage you from skating, we just want to keep you injury-free. Good luck!

Oh, I see. That’s unfortunate but I cannot return the boots. Thankfully they were very inexpensive so even if I can use them for a few months I won’t be upset. I might be able to spend more on a blade since the boots were inexpensive.

I have stumbled accross an MK freestyle but it’s parabolic? I’ve heard great things about the freestyle blades. Do you think the parabolic element would hurt me in the long run? It’s quite a bit more expensive but if those other blades I mentioned won’t do me good for my future goals, maybe this is an option and I can just change the boot out later and keep the blade? Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

<<Emphasis added>> What is the actual model name of the freestyle blade? I don't recall an MK model "Freestyle", and a Google search didn't bring one up. Also, are you sure it's parabolic? Some of their models came in different versions.

If you want to make progress (and skate safely), you need a proper boot and a proper blade. Also, if you weren't properly fitted, the Chorus might not be the right boot for you. If you buy a blade to fit the Chorus, and you later change to another boot, the blade might not necessarily be the correct size for the new boot. So be careful with your shopping strategy.

Oh, I apologize I misspoke. It’s an MK professional, but a parabolic design / it says “parabolic” in big letters on the blade. I can provide photos if you’d like.

I’ve been fitted at a pro shop reccomended by my coach, and was told Edea or Risport would work for my feet. I’ve got Egyptian feet with a moderately high arch. Other users here have also suggested Edea and Risport for my foot shape.

I have no experience with parabolics. Let's ask @Ic3Rabbit what she thinks: Would discounted MK Pros parabolic be suitable for a beginner, or a waste of money? Thanks.
