Shoma had a 90-minute in-person talk show yesterday in Tokyo organized by NUMBER Magazine with around 200ish fans, with fans who are subscribers to the online magazine being able to follow it online. It seems to be a fulfilling time, he didn't just talk about Ice Brave but a little bit about his past competitive career, the Worlds 2025 competition and coverage he was part of, as well as younger skaters, with Ilia, Yuma, Shun, Mikhail Shaidorov being mentioned- and of course he mentioned his support for his friends Kazuki and Sota for the Olympic season, hoping they can qualify for the team.



Also, we have a glimpse on the newly opened Uno2cafe and so many Shomas!!!

My favorite ladies at the talk show. There are comments all over X about how much fun it was and how good Sho looked. Apparently there was a huge cheer / roar from the group when he first came out. Many said he looked really surprised at the greeting. I have a friend who was there and am anxious to learn her thoughts.

 
Shoma has been killing me on Twitter, it's pretty much his natural habitat :ROFLMAO:



He quote retweeted the viral tweet of him running on ice with the caption "The worst scenario where a professional goes all out against a beginner." The tweet sounds just like how a hater would tweet about him "bullying" the gamers he skated with but since it's Shoma tweeting at himself it ends up as a joke :ROFLMAO:

Shogun (his favorite gamer and 1 of the guys who went skating in the video) replied to him with the same caption, attaching a screenshot of a news headline from 5 years ago when Shoma played a just-for-fun, reversed Smash Bros competition and won against Shogun in first round lol.



Shoma's reply is truly.... "Everything imaginable that's the worst-case scenario is packed into this."

And of course now Shoma's tweet is making the rounds... again... hshshshs.

Emma is getting ready for the new restaurant. I had to look twice. At first I wasn't sure if that was brother Tree. He looks so different!

Just heard from my friend regarding the talk show on the 28th. She sat in the front row so had a perfect view! She said most of the topics he covered were many things we already knew, including that he didn't want to spoil some of the surprises that will be in Ice Brave. She said it was very lively and the audience was so appreciative. The 90 minutes flew by.

She also went to the new cafe which is not big but very comfy. She had cute.photos of Toro and Emma who were there.

I really enjoyed this! One of my biggest concerns about Shoma making his own show is that his approach to movement and presentation is quite distinct compared to other skaters, which holds him back a lot when it comes to group choreo, especially those made in very short notice. But then, if he is to learn the way other skaters move in order to create group and duet numbers, it will take away from what made his style so special in the first place. He can do it, but I think it can be a bit toned down, and is better served for a show that's less about Shoma (like OPOI for example).

Shoma's approach to movement and music is so instinctive, so it's really good to see him learn how to verbalize it in order to coach Yoji, Tsune and Kussy on how to move to the music.



One of his direction was "If your feet move first, it gives off a 'preparing' vibe, so you should 'wait until you're almost late' before you start moving." When I think about it, this is such a Shoma signature, it's one of the ways he gives more depth and more dimension to his movement in order to match or support the music better rather than just "moving" with the music.

It's such a very small thing, and I think it's more presentation-related rather than technique-related (but of course, Shoma can do this because he's supported by his own basics) but it makes all the difference in projection and engagement- especially for programs that aren't inherently built for audience engagement. It got me thinking that with more experience, Shoma can really help as an advisor for "finishing" or "polishing" in the future, especially in regards to presentation.

Game-wise, he collaborated with Kamaitachi-san, a comedy duo, both on his and their Youtube channel.

Obviously he played Smash Bros with them on his channel (and beat them both up of course, as per usual), and they played like a... horror-ish spot a difference game? On Kamaitachi-san's Youtube channel.

Also Shoma and his quotes has been going viral a lot on Twitter after the whole Switch2 thing and his skating video with fellow gamers... it's always been a seasonal thing for his quotes to go viral (because they're very funny) so here it is again, ahaha.

Shoma on Twitter applauding Zackray, one of his favorite Smash Bros gamers, for his come-from-behind victory yesterday at Kagaribi 13, a Smash Bros tournament held in Saitama, Japan.



And... apparently he's there in person today!!! This fan saw him taking photos with MKLeo, another Smash Bros gamer.

 
Shoma posting photos of him with acola (the Kagaribi 13 Champion) and MKLeo on his Twitter. He looks so happy!!! I'm so happy he got to finally be able to watch offline gaming competitions after retiring. It really seems to be something he always wanted to do but was too busy with his career to do it.





LOL at his caption for MKLeo (who is Mexican): "Having stayed in Switzerland for two years, is it just me who couldn't say (in English) 'Can I take a picture?'"

I just realized that this is the first year since 2015 that Shoma didn't skate at Prince Ice World Yokohama (not counting during pandemic) which is significant because the Yokohama edition of the ice show is almost always held on Golden Week holidays in Japan (April 29 - May 6)... meaning that this is the first time in 10 years that Shoma actually has time /off/ skating work during Golden Week.

It's really cool to see him be able to spend his Golden Week in a different way this year.
