Dutch Figure Skating 2024-2025

It seeems as if they wish for the same kind of results as in Long- and Short track speed skating, which is totally bonkers. Speed skaters get sponsored and funded, figure skaters don't. We've never had a pair qualify for the OG, while in Speed Skating we expect three in every discipline. I recall that at one of the last OG there were voices that long track speed skating should no longer be an Olympic Sport because of the domination of one country (mine). It has changed a bit (thankfully there are very good speed skaters from elsewhere), but still. It is strange to expect the same from a FS pair. By the way at the last OG, Lindsay was present even if she did not quite attain the standard our Olympic Committee seems to expect. Perhaps Daria and Michel will get the same treatment in the end (Fingers crossed).

It's actually information for the 2025-2026 season but that season hasn't started yet: Daria and Michel have had their two new programmes choreographed by Joti Polizoakis (SP) and Pasquale Camerlengo (FS). They are really going for the PCS, as those have let them down a little bit.

I like the choreographer choices and I am sure I will like the music when it is revealed!

Most features on the Dutch Skating Website are concerned with speed skaters: long track, short track, inline skating but every once in a while there's one about a figure skater. Like when they discussed Danilova/Tsiba's new programmes and choreographers.

Today they posted one about Angel Delavaque, the 14-year-old junior skater who trains with Jorik Hendrickx, admires his sister (with whom she also trains), and gets a lot of support from home (logistically, financially, even the school) to arrange everything to achieve her dreams - getting as far as possible in the FS world, with Euros, Worlds and maybe the OG on the horizon but mostly as good as can be (short summary).

It's in Dutch:

This is about next season but since there's not a new thread yet...

Kahlan Gooijer has posted on insta that she will go to the JGP in Baku. This will be her first JGP outing. I'm very happy for her, I liked her a lot when I saw her at Challenge Cup 🥳

Hanna Jakucs and Alessio Galli won't be skating for the Netherlands any longer after everything that's happened. I hope they will find another country to represent soon.

I hope that they will be able to get opportunities somewhere else. Unfortunately they will need to miss most of next season with regard to international competitions because they last competed in mid February. They won't be able to start representing somewhere else in time for Euros and I think their earliest return date might be too late for gaining the Worlds minimums. Hopefully have more time to really focus on development and improvement this coming season might help them in the longer-term.

I was waiting to start with a new thread, as Hanna and Alessio are still on the website of the Dutch Skating Federation, and I did not want to speculate before they themselves stated anything.

Ever since that lawsuit and the ISU statement that the requirements for their 'clearance' no longer were being met, I have been expecting this. I am very sad about it (as were quite a few members of the Dutch Figure Skating Team) because I rather enjoyed the rivaly between Hanna/Alessio and Chelsea/Sherim. It seems the other ID team did not. I sincerely hope they will be in a better place soon, and that their development and improvement continues.

What makes me uncomfortable is the message it gives regarding bullying. It says that the route to success is to try to force other skaters out and ruin their careers. I would prefer things to be decided on the ice.

I totally agree @FlossieH! Especially since the bullying couple reacted with 'and that the best may win' in 2020 (that's when Hanna and Alessio started representing The Nederlands) when they were confronted with the competition with Hanna and Alessio at first (I looked it up in older articles). It looks a lot like: we wish to compete with another couple as long as we win ourselves.

They were not that far apart ability-wise, I think. But instead of taking that as motivation, V/vG seem to have thought their way was the better option 🙄

There should be a clause in the rules where if somebody or a team is forced out of a representation by the actions of another, the waiting time should be essentially waived ... but probably not gonna happen anytime soon.

Wasn't intending to comment further into depth on that, but this is infuriating to me. I hope Hanna and Alessio can find another flag to represent soon  That makes it hard to root for Verhaegh/Van Geffen

All I am going to say is that I am very angry over what has happened.

On a different note, I was looking at Ice Partner Search there now, and spotted that Roos van der Pas is looking for an Ice Dance partner.

She says she is willing to relocate. Given recent developments, if she can't find a Dutch guy to partner with, it would probably be better to do so.
