2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Robert Brodie interviews Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford:
nice to see that the drama seems behind these two ;)

and wow... i miss them... they were so good.... when they were skating, people complained so much about Meagan's lack of this or that... but watching these two and comparing to today's pairs... they were fast, they were huge technically, they had great energy and programs, they connected with the music and I always loved watching them skate. I am a huge fan of many pairs teams who are skating right now, but these two were special.

I noticed in the rule book, Skate Canada added age requirements for Seniors for this season (here):

Age: For Domestic Competitions, Senior Singles competitors must have reached the age of 13 before July 1 preceding the competition.
(also applies to Pairs and Ice Dance, Synchro requires 17 before July 1 though for Senior/Senior Elite 12)

That should answer the question of Lia Cho moving up to Seniors this season.

I don't know how i feel about Lia having to skate Juniors again...

They should add an addendum:
“Unless you win Junior nationals, the previous season” 😭😭😭

The fact they just added this rule, must be because they didn’t know what to do with Lia.

So, now Lia is going to compete half asleep domestically and even internationally with nobody there to push her 😩 (I was really looking forward to Maddie versus Lia at Senior Nationals).

Edit: Last season they allowed her to compete in NextGen despite being ineligible to compete at JGP. I’m still hopeful she is the exception

From Aqua Cup, Grayson Long scored 70.62 in the short and 125.42 in the free. They're separate, but if combined would be 196.04. Japan doesn't have bonus points, so he would get 1 bonus point in Canada for a fully rotated 3A in the short. He added a second 3A in the free, with a 3Aq+3T and 3A<.

So he isn't going for a 4S yet, but I think the 3A in the short was his highest scored one yet. Good start to the season for him. With the benchmark being 200 for men with 2 years or less in eligibility, that should be a JGP spot for him. NextGen should be interesting for the men if there's already two around the benchmark.

Lulu had 38.74 in the short and 83.56 in the free (combined would be 122.3). She looks to be going for a 3Lz+3T in the short and started her free with a 3Lz+3T<<. Rougher for her, hopefully NextGen will go better for her.

Also, I guess a special shout out goes to Lulu and Grayson for winning the free program competition at Aqua Cup Juniors.

Lulu skated both short program and free skate. The bad news for Lulu is that she struggled with her lutz triple attempts and even the 3Lo’s. Her total score would have been around 120. Let’s just say…. She has to improve a lot before NextGen.

Grayson in the meantime skated the free skate really good. He attempted two 3A’s. One, in combo with a 3T. He got negative GOE. But, enough to justify these jumps. The good news is he beat on of the JPN selected JGP boys. Lost in TES, but, scored higher in PCS to score higher overall. Good job Grayson!!! 👏

You just beat me to this.

No Kara

I guess it's on to waiting for the Ontario Sectional Qualifying Declaration to be published for answers about Minsol and Victoria.

I can post a screenshot. How can I post an image here? It only seems to allow for a link.

Oh yes, that is odd that Kara would not be there.

I think it's not possible to directly upload a picture here, but you could upload it on Google Drive or Imgur and use the "Insert Media" button to share your screenshot, if you can/want to. :)

Wow! Victoria is Canadian!!
Welcome to Canada 🇨🇦 Victoria

Also, no Konstantina Lock 🥺

Kara - I wonder if she decided to take on pairs with my our David Shy….
My gut always told me that one of the ONT NextGen girls would jump at this opportunity to pair up with a tall strong male. Kara is petite, has a 3Lz 3T to maximize points with David. She also left BC to go to ONT and I sensed she would be the one to seize this opportunity. With her not on the entry list, I’m super curious to find out if my intuition is correct. She could simply just be injured 🥺🫣

I thought it might be age related, but she and the other Kelowna women are all in the same eligibility age range :(

David S is still on Ice Partner Search, but so are a few others who have partners now. I hope if it is injury, it isn't anything too serious. She had a good showing at Challenge and Nationals, I hope she can keep it going
