2025 NextGen Competition | July 17-20

Slush Puppy is owned by an American company. They have naming rights to two arena complexes: Slush Puppy Center in Gatinau and Slush Puppy Place in Kingston. Both are in the 4500-5000 seat range.

And yes, I looked up the Slush Puppy Center and even identified which rink NexGen was using.

well... there were great moments here and there... less in the men's LP but still...

kudos to Anthony for going for his 3a... he didn't pop it... so that's progress :)

that may indeed motivate them to skate well :) this was not so good :(
There was a clear gap in scores between 4th and 5th here, and 5th and 6th were very close to each other. Sending the top 4 and keeping one spot left to be earnt gives them all the possibility of another spot and gives David Li and Willian Chan a chance of earning one still. I think that would be the fairest options for all six of those skaters.

did you find the hotel where they were staying and which one may be at walking distance ? :)

you are correct... not sure Skate Canada is that smart lol

I think Riga and Varese would've been assigned for the men already (probably between Grayson/Anthony/David B, so I'm expecting them to get the early assignments.) Victoria will probably be assigned with Grayson since Skate Canada likes to send skaters who share a coach together.

I hope they give a bit more time to Anthony. The LP needs it.
I would send Grayson to the first one. I think the lutz issues were just an aberration today and they would be fine on another day. He is the one who seems most ready.

Bondar may be ready too.. I think the SP was just an off day.. he did well except for the quad toe... but i think the assignments are already made for the first two... we just need to wait and see what Skate Canada will announce and when they will do it

No. I just looked, and there are 3 hotels about a kilometer from the rink. Google maps won't give me a walking time, but says it is a 15 minute drive. So either they're very confused or the scale is wrong. But it doesn't look like it to me.

OK, I got a different Google map and it says a 14 minute walk to the Holiday Inn Express. They may be staying at a farther hotel, or the walk may seem interminable because of the outdoor temp (currently 26 "feels like 29" in Ottawa, and it would have been hotter a few hours ago).

They are at the Holiday Inn Express

@NanaPat in any case, I just looked and there is no availability at the Holiday Inn Express in Gatineau during Nationals... sort of solves it for me ;)

When considering assignments, we shouldn’t discount providing opportunities to young promising skaters / teams. Let’s not turn back any spots for sure Think “development” not just medals or top 6 placements
