2025 Skate Ontario Sectional Series | July 25-27

I'll wait for the CQE match-up of Uliana vs Fee Ann vs Breken and then the Skate Ontario August match-up of Breken vs Kaiya vs Gabby, that'll be more interesting for the TBD spot :)

Looking at the short program scores at Skate Ontario July last season for comparison:

1 - Katherine 53.04
2 - Fee Ann 49.66
3 - Breken 46.50
4 - Sara-Maude 46.48
That really makes me change my perspective. The opening domestic event didnt Affect these four ladies on later domestic events to earn international events.

I hope Breken skates well tmrw

Well, Minsol skated an incredible free skate today 👏

Last Season, at her ONT event, she scored 165.97 (just 0.03 off the domestic benchmark) at a Senior event. She received so many calls on her jumps and fell on a the last triple flip that was almost a double flip.

This season, she is much better.
All her jumps are fully rotated. Her only mistake was doubling the salchow. However, 3F 3T was fully rotated. She scored 121.07 on the free skate portion alone. Overall, 182.77. A bit higher, than Lia’s 182.25. She could have even won Next Gen. A score over 182 gets two JGP events. Too bad she still can’t skate for Canada yet. I hope someone posts a video.

Minsol Kwon is back! If allowed to compete, she would easily bring Canada two Junior World spots for next season with a top ten finish at Junior Worlds this season.

By the way, this score would have also placed her 3rd at the Korean JGP selection event, so she would have gotten two JGPs in either country.

Whether she is being prevented from switching to Canada or prevented from skating in Korean competitions due to her grades (Yes, that's something Korean skaters have to worry about, and she talked about it in an interview in her last international season), it's a real shame for her and for fans. Whatever it is, may the problem be solved soon.

I actually heard about the grades thing too. 🤔😮 (I wonder if that plays a factor too…)

At the Korean JGP selection event, I don’t think Korea gives bonus points like they do in Canada. Minsol got three bonus points here, so her score without bonus points could have been 179.77, which, would still put her at 4th. If Korea doesn’t do bonus points that is. Behind the two 3A twins though… But, clearly good enough for two JGP spots this season. Such a shame that an athlete that made two JGP finals, in her first two seasons, will not be in the JGP circuit this season.

well... at some point, she will be done with high school and can just be a professional athlete... :)

It doesn't seem to me that she wants to represent Canada otherwise it would be done by now. I can understand one season of limbo but this is the second season. I don't think Korea would block it : Canada has given a lot to Korea in terms of skaters in pairs and dance.

So, my guess.. and yes, I am speculating... (sometimes I am  too) is that she is just patiently waiting to finish her high school to get back competing for Korea...and in the meantime, maybe trying to get her grades higher while training in Canada.

Phew!! My boy David S. just beat John Kim for silver medal 🥈 behind Donovan 🇲🇽

Not a good skate for David though. He went for 3A though… fell on his second lutz and this causes him to REP. He also missed adding a combo. 120+ for an overall score of 190+. I believe the domestic benchmark is 213. I believe David can score 200+. But, 213 is too high for him. Thus, putting him in no man’s land. That is why I strongly push him towards Pairs.

Edit: I just checked and the domestic benchmark is 219!! 😳

John didn't have a good day for Axels.. but he managed to stay on his feet for his quads... though they were not nicely landed (minus GOE)

Bruce tried a 3A. YAY!...

David S got masive PCS compared to some others.... not sure about that...but again, Skate Ontario can score their skaters how they want to do so because nobody can see them skate and complain :)

Breken won the Senior Women free with a score of 100.01. First time going for a second 3F in the free and a 3Lz-3T.
Was that a 3Lz 3T attempt?
It was 3Lz 2T in the protocol sheet.
I doubt she is going for this lutz combo as she repeats lutz and flip and goes for a solo 3T.

The good: I told myself last night, I’d be happy if Breken scores over 100. She did go over. By 0.01. So, she just met this criteria of mine. The 3F seems solid. It was her hardest jump, last season, and now she does two of these jumps.

The bad: The lutz is her problematic jump. Based on SP, as well. I think the fall on the toe was unusual. I suggest she go for two salchows and two flips. I think she is doing too much in terms of technical content.

Still, I’m happier with this outing now that this free skate is done. It is unto Quebec now….

She said in her interview that she was going for a 3Lz-3T in her programs this season:
Both programs this season will include the triple Lutz-triple toe combination, the gold standard for the world’s top women. She’s added Biellman spins in each. There will be two triple flips in the long program. All of this being done to push Brezden closer to the podium at 2026 Canadians in Gatineau, Que., and to make her stand out more internationally, when the time comes.

But yeah that solo 3T doesn't make sense if it's supposed to be a 3Lz-3T. But then her combos don't make sense since she has too many 2Ts and the last 2T was invalid.

Yup. It looks like she intends to go for 3Lz 3T. I analyzed the jump layout.
I think doubling the toe made her think she needs to add a 3T later on in the program and like you guys said, her math got mixed up. She would have been fine if she went for 3F 2A 2A (instead of 2T). But, hard to figure the math when you have a program to skate to.

I wrote to the person at Skate Ontario dealing with the streaming and she says I could have access to the archives if I buy the full season subscription.

40 Canadian Dollar equals
21.61 Pound sterling

Plus the extra your bank charges. I was hoping to just spend the £5 for this one event, as the other districts are still having free livestreams on daily motion.

The RD for this event is at 2.30 am UK time, and though the FD is at a more reasonable evening start time, I cannot justify spending the money. So will have to follow the results only.

Good Luck Lucy & Aiden!!!! 😀 💐🫶🥰

Is this for the August event? Oh dang, I was only interested in purchasing that event because it wasn't too much and I really want to see a lot of the skaters there. But if theres no replays unless you pay 40 for the season pass I guess theres no point. No way I can watch every event real time.

Yes, for the Kitchener-Waterloo Sectionals starting on 15th August. I was so disappointed too. The cost of living is really high in the UK currently and Skate Ontario should consider giving fans the option to buy each event they're interested in, and have access to archives, as we're all in different timezones. Plus the skaters didn't know about the money going towards their benefit. I'd be interested to hear at the end of the season whether it's been a success? When the whole world can watch Cranberry on YouTube for free (with ads) I think that's definitely the way forward.
