2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

For the domestic portion at Cranberry (Cranberry Open):

Junior Men
Travis Trang

Senior Men
Brian Chiem
John Kim

Senior Women
Lia Cho
I just saw your post in the competition thread.

Seniors????

Did Lia read my forum post about Canadian Ladies sweeping the past two American domestic events? I guess she got jealous and wants to make it 3/3. I guess Lia is also aiming for the 166 Senior Domestic benchmark 😜

Will she go for the 3A in the SP and LP?
So far her best result is 3A<< = 2.06

So no Eddy nor Anthony in junior men in cranberry... yet they are not in CQE... what's going on ? Or is there an "international" portion they could attend ?

This is just the domestic portion, the international Junior entries haven't come out yet. That starts Friday, the domestic portion starts sooner and USFS releases the start orders a day before the event starts.

For the international portion, so far I have:

William Chan (posted by Connaught today)
Rui Qin (from his interview at NextGen)
Colton Moness (in Adv. Novice, posted by Thornhill FSC)

This is the last opportunity for some of these Next Gen to get the JGP spots. Good luck to all our Canadians

The Skate Canada international assignments page was updated and Challenger events have been added in addition to Cranberry (Senior international entries only) and John Nicks (Deanna/Max not added yet):

Kinoshita Group Cup
Nebelhorn Trophy
Denis Ten Memorial
Budapest Trophy
Icechallenge (not a Challenger event, may be used for Juniors who aren't selected for JGP events)
Warsaw Cup
Golden Spin of Zagreb

Priority for the early events should be going to skaters with GP assignments.

Someone needs to explain to me how Autumn Classic got nixed and replaced by the competition with no stream and no seating for spectators. SIGH

Money, I expect... The Challenger is being split between different events which would be running anyway, rather than having a whole additional event.

I got that part... my point is more that these different events are so badly organized from the spectator point of view, (no stream, no seats etc) that they shouldn't be receiving the status of "challengers" ACI may have been a bit more expensive to organize but at least, it was always fun to go there watch the stars or stream it.

Yes, I agree. I feel that what they are doing devalues the status of a Challenger event.

Agreed. And in relations to John Nicks Challenger...I feel like pairs is "neglected" in Challengers anyway since not every event has them, and putting this event in such a venue and without a stream makes it feel even more underrepresented

I attended the Philadelphia comp yesterday and had the pleasure of seeing Gabby Daleman live for the first time. Though there were some errors, there was no doubt in my mind that this is an elite level competitor. Her jumps are huge and powerful with great height, she has great performance quality, and I loved the little touches she included in her choreo sequence. I was impressed!
I just saw a video of LP highlights, and combined with the protocols, it tells a story.

She looks like Alyssa Liu looked a year ago. There are stamina issues. Some of the jumps, even the completed ones, look dodgy... like maybe just a tad under to a strict caller. The speed isn't where it needs to be.

But the "bones" are there. You can tell this is a world class performer, and she just needs more time to be REALLY back. And I think she's probably viewed as an underdog to Maddie, at least to most. And that's going to take a lot of pressure off, I think.

Between the two of them, I'd call it a toss-up by the time Canadian Nationals and Olympic selection come around.

One odd thing about John Nicks is that Skating Club of NY has a second rink with bleachers that they use for skating shows, but they use the rink without seating for the Challenger. Does anyone know why?

There a handful of other women who can compete with these two.... it will come down to who wins Nationals but also, it will come down to who did well during the season,
I wouldn't count out : Sara-Maude Dupuis who has been stable for quite a while and always improving season after season, Kaiya Ruiter who was starting to make significant progress with her new coaching team, Katherine Medland Spence, perfect example of a great late bloomer, Fée Ann Landry who when on is one of the most powerful and spectacular jumper around, Breken Brezden who is a young and upcoming skater with all the goods and so much joy in her skating.

Perhaps other fans would mention other contenders too... My point is more to show that Maddie is not the automatic pick though her body of work is definitely far ahead the others. And my second point is that Gabby could finish anywhere from 1st to 10th at Nationals... as the competition has gotten very tight these last couple years.

If only our men followed that trend....
