2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Well.. I gotta be honest here. Not feeling Roman's FS.. I am glad that he is getting consistent with the jumps but his program is very almost.. delayed and slow moving and kind of empty. He really needs to add a ton of coreo, speed and substance to that free skate. I will also say not a fan of the music either. Not in an olympic year. I feel nearly the same about Stephen's program too. I really liked Anthony's FS. As for pure program I think he out does both Roman and Stephen but obviously the technical aspect will really effect Anthony still. Nice to see he attempted a 3A in the FS though.
I think a slower programme is good for Roman. With a faster and busier programme, he can have a tendency to rush jump entries and take offs which leads to errors and falls. I am hoping that this year's programme will give him more space to think and concentrate on what he is doing.

I do agree that slower music is indeed good for him.. Im not sure if that is exactly the winning one and he still needs to include more substance in the program. His components are so low.. super un necessarily because he is a far better skater than what his program has right now for content. My hope is at least it will build through the year and this is the "base model" program and it will have additions through the season. His components were only low 70's, he can be mid 80's IMO

Part of this may have been that he skated relatively early, with judging saving some room for the home faves ;) It's not like it never has happened before :)

Any news on KMS? Is she the only one of the top Lady contenders who has not made an appearance this year?

She posted a reel on August 1, she doesn't look to be injured:

She's keeping her free skate from last season (the same music that Roman is using for his free skate too!). She was initially entered for Skate Ontario July and August, but withdrew from them.

Thanks Saine. You would think if she was keeping the same FS that she would be ready to go for the season. Just weird then that she withdrew.

I don't want to speculate too much but maybe she just needed a longer break this year : she's never had to keep performing late in the second half of the season. That was new for her to get to 4CC. So maybe KMS was tired or needed some mental space to take that all in.

Or, maybe, she had a virus and was weaker and though she's training and not injured, couldn't get ready for the Ontario events... Just saying this because of the photo where she's lying on the ice with a "body line" around her... as if she's "dead" ... that's a hilarious post :) but it's also encouraging : it means she's training hard. (the fall on the twizzles seems scripted LOL)

It could be an issue with the short program. She was entered for the short only for July, and would need it to compete in August.

Post from Kelly Ann Laurin about CQE. They had a misstep in the warm-up for the free and withdrew, but they're okay now.

OK.. So i wasn't crazy. I thought I had seen them in the warm up and then... the stream died and the whole thing got canceled. Glad that
1) they are fine
2) that i am not going senile already at my young and tender age... :rolleye:

Interview with Homick/Buelow:

Music rights continues to be an ongoing theme in interviews. Also they and Mitchell Islam talk about the choreo death spiral and working with Kaitlyn Weaver.

well... in some ways, I would have preferred if she indeed wasn't "eager" Of course, the kids were no longer on the same page but moving to Bruno's team doesn't sound like someone ready to fold. The time both Charly and Martina waste on getting new partners and gelling with them, their junior eligibility will be gone. :(

I was actually thinking the opposite.
To me, David S. has a lot of potential in pairs. Martina has her limits. But, the Bruno/Duhamel duo might make Martina raise her game.
I am not convinced of either :) But that's fine. I understand why some would think the opposite of what I am thinking. However, I am glad that she is continuing. Julie probably advised her to go to Bruno's camp which I think is a great idea. To me, it's not clear what David S really wants to do. I don't get pairs boys vibe from him... but that's just me... I was getting them from Vladimir Furman for instance and he's learned the stuff so quickly.

If it's about the lack of triple jumps... well.. will Bruno fix that ? He has Jazzy he is working with for a while and it's hard for her too... I think, because of their great result at worlds last year, people tend to forget that Marly had only a couple events as he was sidelined with a shoulder injury... and that means that they couldn't do SBS jumps... together... Timing is so difficult for pairs... often, the skaters can land their jump alone... but put them together and it's not working out... Is it the case here ? I don't know. Did Martina suffer in her development because she was patiently waiting for Charly to heal ? I don't know.

But yeah, I think it would be better for her to have a skater who is stronger, who knows who to twist, lift and throw already.... so that this work is coming quicker together... and then, with that in bank, they can improve SBS jumps together.

For Charly, I wish maybe a younger partner with solid confidence and jumps as he is not the strongest guy out there and though I believe he has a good frame and will get stronger with time, right now, I am scared for his shoulder in some of the moves, most noticeably the twist.

Just watched the Sr Men's Medal Ceremony from Cranberry and to me Gogo just seemed disinterested in the whole thing. To me he also seemed off in the Kiss and Cry after his FS. Grant it his score was way too low but still he could have smiled a bit, after all it was a great skate for him. Or is this just his way... doesn't show much emotion?
