Pairs' LP

S&S continue their streak of bombing every free skate. In their entire career and as world champions, they have done exactly ONE clean long program at 2007 European championships. It just manifests the dismal status of pairs skating.

I am still counting...

M&T's long program is absolutely horrible, lots of stupid posturing. I'm glad their PCS is coming down. They were so slooooow.

M&B were great today. Meagan's posture is horrible, but their speed and attack, wow...

Once again, I do not understand why this Russian team keeps scoring so high, they are to be quite honest not that good. Once again I would have put the Canadians over the Russians. Even after their terrible accident it took a lot of courage to continue and skate clean.

I take it back, the Canadians should have won the whole thing.

If I understand the Canadians did beat the Russians in the free skate but the Russians pulled through due to the short.

*sigh*... S/S, what are you doing?

They have to stop doing this..they were great in the SP what happened?

Kudos for the canadian couple!!! They were awesome!!! That took guts, he kept on bleedin and the girl ended up stained in his blood... AWESOME!!!

She missed the throw salchow. Other than that they were excellent and deserve first place contrary to what others are posting.

Totally missed throw 3sal, fell on throw 3flip... I agree they deserve 1st, but the scores were ridiculous.

I was waiting for the trash talking to start. Time to exit this thread.

I only tuned in to the live stream on cbc for D/B's skate right when they started their first throw and man, were their throws soaring high! Kudos to them for coming back like that and to Craig for fighting through... with that much blood he must have been in pain. Great job Meagan and Craig!

Ahh, thank you!
S/S... get that salchow!!
It's such a lovely LP, I'd love to see it clean all the way through.

Does anybody know why at the end of their LP, Maxim stood on his knees and kissed Maria's hand ?

^^wow, i'm glad i'm not the only one who didn't like M/T and their LP today
With such a gracious SP, it's hard to believe they are doing that LP which is not helping them. I couldn't make out if it was sturm and drang or a comedy.

Duhamel and Buntin were very good but they really didn't show much connection to Tosca, but better, imo, than M/T.

Vise and Trent were looking good. Too bad they have to do the mirror image skating.

Already in Finals: Aliona and Rotyn. McL/Bru, and M/T are maybes, because Dube/Davison, Zhang/Zhang, Kawaguchi/Smirnov; Volozhar/Morozov,and Pang/Tong yet to skate.

Oooo, I forgot Duhamel/Buntin. Hope they make it but there are so many still to skate.

She didn't just miss it, it was singled! She also fell on the throw flip and he botched the landing on the second part of the SBS sequence (and didn't get a negative GOE for that!). They also looked out of sinc at times. I don't mind them winning - it's not like M/B were particularly impressive - but 120 points for that kind of skating is ridiculous. Totally WTF.

When S/S are on they're great to watch. They were not on today, and it's not right that they got the score they did on reputation only.

I hope D/B are ok? Better his hand than his face, but still pretty scary.

Like I said in my most recent post my screen was freezing and I only saw one mistake. What I saw was excellent skating. IMO S/S were not the only skaters overmarked today but I try not to get involved in judging disputes because once the scores are recorded even if I don't agree I accept.

What you have to compare with in S/S skate is their marks from SA with what they got today, not the rest of the field, because let's be honest they are in a different class.

They earned 3 points * more here than at SA, and if we crunch the numbers, (take away the mistake on the throw 3 sal, because that happened both times and what you have left):
at SA they had a clean throw 3 flip which is +6 points , here Aliona fell on it, so most likely only 2 points. Also at SA the 3 toe sbs seq was cleaner, there they got a positive GOE, here I am assuming they got less, because Robin had a turn out of the second, could have been another -1 or something similar.

What they had here better, it was definitely the sbs 3 sal, earning them most likely a least +1.5, so they are making up the lost points on the sbs 3 Toes, but probably a little more.
The sbs spins were much better in synch here, probably another point made up,
Here the pairs combo spin was well executed, at SA they got zero for it, that is about 5 points (depends on the levels) and GOE, so this makes up for the fall on the throw triple flip.

Based on this quick math, they should have come about 2.5 ahead of their mark at SA, for the rest of 1 points and some, probably they got more somewhere on the litfs and there you go!!!

All of a sudden, the 120 looks just about right, assuming that the mark at SA was indeed justified.

The SBS was a 0 GOE, I believe.

I am really annoyed that M/T have won the tiebreaker to get into the GPF over McLaughlin/Brubaker (by about 4 pts). I don't even care that M/T's long program sucks... It's the fact that they can splat a million times and still get held up. 100+ points for that awful long program at Skate America was ridiculous.

And what's with S/S aborting their throws? They did the same thing at Skate America. I'm sure they deserved to win today, but a 120 without a clean throw? Geez.

The SBS was a 0 GOE, I believe.

At SA they got +0.62 for the 3t sequence. Then it was less obvious point gap in favour of today's mark.

IMO, how the judges are applying this year the GOE is rewarding finally the athletic style ( it's a sport after all ) and the amplitude, the height, the flow out of the jumps, the cleaness of the execution, connecting moves into the elements, all matter a lot. When S/S execute successfully, they are text book for all these attributes. That is why they get apparently too high marks.
