Free Dance

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum. I am watching TEB live on icenetwork and I thought the Kerrs should be ahead of Faiella/Scali. I like F/S's programs but it seemed they had a bobble on one of the lifts and it looked scary. D/S are much improved from Skate America but I don't like this FD at all. I still expect them to win though.

First of all, welcome to the forum!
Second, ITA. I thought the Kerrs had a much better performance. It's strange, but in a youtube video of Faiella/Scali I saw over the summer I thought they were much more convincing there than here at TEB. And I saw what you meant about a bobble on a lift, but thought I might have been the only one to think so.

Funny, D/S were a lot better than at SA, but it didn't capture me like it did at SA.
 
I will say this about Del/Scho- this program has a core of serenity to it that is soothing to watch. The music is downbeat but their performance to it has a sustained strength to it that's pleasing. Plus, their blades are as quiet and smooth as hot knife slicing through butter. Their technique is in their bones and not something they have to think about.

While I prefer the programs of the Kerrs and Faiella/Scali conceptually and they both have interesting choreography- the technical mastery of their steps fade in and out a bit.

Though one of my favorite moments was in Faiella/Scali's FD- the last lift is so interesting- she is lifted up and then swings down into a horizontal position. Such a nice movement that made me think of swinging down from those monkey bars you used to find on the playground.
 
Thanks for the welcome. I too saw F/S's Moonlight Sonata on youtube and I really liked it. I was really anticipating their performance here and seeing how much better it would be, unfortunately this performance was underwhelming and seemed nervous for me. Though they really did have some nice moments like their opening lifts. Scali, I felt, really felt the music moreso than Faiella. I just love the Kerrs FD and feel as though they should have been in 2nd place.

I am just really excited for ice dance. I've been a fan for years and there are some ODs and FDs this year that I absolutely love.
 
The Kerrs were robbed of the silver, and if there is one thing I cannot stand it is when both the Kerrs and or the Zaretskis get robbed.

Well that was a good competition on the boards everybody, there was only minimal rioting in the Ladies SP thread, which was good. There were a number of goofy numbers, but hey, that's Skae Dance. All of them were fun to watch. My fav team Pernell and Mathieu a bit too serious but still the best for me.
 
Yes, I noticed both a bobble in an FS lift transition and a wobble on Massimo's part on a lift where he is trying to glide on one foot. I dislike clown programs on principle. Unfortunately, as my kids used to say about skiing, they skated their bib number. How they were ranked is how they fiinished. Too disappointing, especially because I definitely liked the Kerr's FD more than at SA. Where they lost this comp was in the OD, due to mistakes.

I would have had Kerr's in 2nd definitely overall, anyway, at least in the FD.:clap:

And lmarie, you are not the only one that noticed C/P's noisy stroking. With no talking heads on ice network, you can hear these things. F&S were quite loud in spots too, especially compared to Delschoes and Kerrs.

I understand that what Blanc and Bouquet was skating to is "French rap"

Who knew they had that? It sounded like some guy reading poetry at a coffeehouse to me.

The writing on her leg looked like a runner in her tights. I spent a certain amount of time trying to detect whether it was or not.
 
No. They will probably be 2nd alternate, with C/P being 1st alternate, barring illness, injury, loss of skates before an event and other kinds of horror and mayhem being visited upon at least two of the top 4 teams at COR or two of the top 4 teams at NHK.

However, this is the first year they have won a GP medal, and they have won 2!!

I just re-watched Delobel/Schoenfelder's FD and I didn't expect to but I've fallen in love with it. It's sort of strange- something just clicked for me. I liked it well enough at SA but I wasn't bowled over at all. But I started to see the creativity in the choreography and the really "hidden" interesting things that they did. For ex, their sbs twizzles were done with a cross and switch in position between the two skaters so that you as the viewer didn't even notice it as an element. And the choreography and shapes that they make are so a part of the music. There's no set-up ever- with many teams they telegraph to you that a lift is coming up or twizzles but the difficulty in pulling off the interpretation to this music is that there's no setup in the music. It's a piece that you listen to late at night when everything's quiet outside. But yet there's a backbone to the sound of the music that's a little bit missing from the Muse selections that the Kerrs and C/J are using. Don't get me wrong I think the Kerrs do an amazing job with their choreography and interpretation but the music itself is a little bit more fractured to me.

Anyway, I think their high PCS scores are totally justified. Their TES scores are falling with each competition- so I hope that they continue to work on the cleaness of the elements and not give away points. I would be completely ok with them besting B/A and Dom/Shab this year with this FD. IMO, it's a slow discovery.

I have few comments on this competition, which was really interesting. I even liked Frasier/Lukanin program, which does not happen often to me (except of their FD in Gothenburg, which I saw live and it was GREAT).
First, It was the first time when I saw C/P and I really liked them! It was amazing how they managed to catch my interest through this monotonous music. They have potential!
I loved Kerrs, what can I say more!
D/S program grew on me the second time I saw it. I noticed so many more details that I did not see before. It is a very unusal program, it catches my emotions in a very unconventional way, I cannot really describe it.

The only program I could not get into was Italians F/S. Actually I always have a big problem with them. I think they are the only couple that I never could understand and appreciate (and believe me, I try hard! :)). Obviously, their technique is strong, but I have problems with their musicality, interpretation, connection. Normally, I dont have a favourite couple, which I always like, or dislike, for example, I loved many Del/Sch dances, but I also disliked few, etc. But with F/S I always get bored and somehow annoyed.

Watch these 2 grow in the next 2 years or so. I am canadian, so obviously biased, but they are going to be following Virtue and Moir footsteps in terms of success, just they are a different style.
I discovered them only this year in January at our nationals, and whenever they show up in a competition, they get better every time. For a comparison, just check their results from 2 weeks ago at Skate canada and you'll see the immediate improvement across the board. And for who doesn't know, both Crone and Poirier are skating in singles as well, that is why they are as athletic and powerful.
