Mao Asada's jumps -- discussion

A LOT of skaters have Asada's toe-picking technique.

It's fine for any jump to turn 1/2 of a rotation before leaving the ice. Not much else to say here.

Let's close this Tread off!

Asada MAO'S Jump can be summed up in substance as follows:
1. Magical Prerotaion with the turn more than 1/2.
2. Awful Underotation.
3. Offensive Two-footed landing.
4. Silly Flutz.

No more else to talk about here!

And the cycle reverses itself!!!!

Yu-Na's jump discussion now Mao's jump discussion. I knew it would happen.

That acronym was so lame.
I commend you for your bravado though. It's hard to be creative when you're trying to communicate something outside of your mother tongue. I suggest you articulate things in a more direct manner, since diction is clearly not your forte.

I have to agree that making TT her full-time coach did not turn out great. Mao should have returned to her for artistic advice and input, but found another coach for the technical stuff. Jumps were always her cash cow...sure her chreo, interpretation etc is excellent, but you can't win on that alone. (unless you are solchenko and solkowy).

Thank you very much for your kind advice !
I've already said that no more else to talk about mao's jump !
It means that you wanna really to talk about my acronym only ?
Have you opened a new thread for it ? No, no more to talk about mao's jump!
Is there still anyone, who doesn't know these stuffs about MAO'S jump ?

I won't be shocked if Mao's fans already created Firetarasova.com. Can anybody remember lp which doesn't even have rest period which allow skater to catch a breath?
It looks like training for salchow is also messing up her loop jump. Maybe Mao should forget about adding salchow.

I don't know.... I've always thought 1/4 prerotation(and maybe 1/2 for loop) is acceptable but 1/2??
That sounds weird. What you're saying basically means every jumps are supposed to be taken off forward except axel. Simply weird.

I think blades meant anything up to 1/2 is "accetpable" technique. I think anything more than a quarter turn on singles is pretty sloppy technique to be honest and makes learning the jumps in any multi-rotational form more difficult. Turning on the toe pick also appears to be acceptable and proper technique - but turning too far round on an edge is not.

From what I have read on this board, that seems to be the crux of the matter. When people talk about pre-rotation, they are usually looking at the edge of the take-off foot.

But there is an additional pivot on the toe-pick, whch cuts the actual turning in the air down to little more than 2 complete revolutions in the air. Now that the skaters on the board have alerted me about what to look for, I think this is a correct description.

Exactly! I'm more of a stick-with-the-definition kind of guy. At least prerotations are finally being discussed and noticed by the judges. Whether the 'cheat' is from the ice or from the toe pick makes no difference. 3 full rotations in the air makes a triple. How could it be anything else? But there are fans who want to make figure skating as easy as possible and allow for a half turn on the ice before going airborne and not call it a 2-1/2 lutz but a 3Z, Yeah.

Instant Replay is so needed in figure skating.

Please find a video clip of an triple jump (except the axel) which is three whole revolutions in the air? I think you would struggle.

Figure skating carried out on edge (which it should be) means you are constantly skating on a part of a circle. Unless you took off on a flat (by definition the jumps take off on edges and with or without toe-pick assist) you would have to be part way roudn the circle in order to take off. Hence why edge jumps often are less "air rotation" than toe jumps. But even in the toe jumps - ther is no physical way that you could plat your toe pick straight back, not turn on it slightly and go up AND rotate. If you stuck the toe staright back and released it at the same angle you would up but not around.

If the skater can not make 3 revolutions in the air then call it whatever he does make in the air. Why give it credit for the attempt?

Taking off on an edge and landing on a spot on a line with that takeoff should produce a genuine 3 revolutions jump. It would be easier if skaters took off on the flat.
