Did Takahiko Kozuka show up in jeans? He certainly managed to avoid anything costumy yet again.![]()
It may have been a problem with the sound on Eurosport but that was probably the as quiet an audience as I've ever heard at a gala, even for D/S and Brian Joubert. Did anyone else get the same impression?
What did Brian skate to?
EDIT: Techno music, it sounds familar but the name escapes me right now.
What a shame... Good thing you were there, and some other skating fans to appreciate the performancesThe audience was AWFUL!!!!
At the beginning, to be fare, we had to put up with all the dull French skaters, which explains the lack of enthusiasm at the beginning.
But afterwards the show was simply fantastic. The people in the audience clearly didn't know how to cheer on a great skater, how to show appreciation. They didn't even know that after a great peformance one is supposed to stand up (in the whole of the arena we must have been twenty to do so!!)
Caroline's EX was probably the best program I've seen from her so far. It was beautiful!!!
that's the girl i expected to see at the competitions. Nice speed, her skating seemed very secure and comfortable, while in the event itself she looked like she was overthinking everything.
Lovely.

I second those who think that this is her best program yet.

Does Icenetwork have exhibition on-demand? I thought they don't cover any of the GP exhibitions. Or at least I don't know how to access them.
I saw the low-quality Youtube version of Caroline's exhibition over a poor internet connection. But even so it was just exquisite. She was always precocious in her artistic expressions (especially in the exhibitions), but I think here she seemed more connected with the audience and the music, more sure of her performance, and most importantly, she showed a lot of *joy* in her skating that was missing from her competitions. Plus, she's developed some feminine curves, just a hint and she doesn't exaggerate it at all, but that growing femininity is starting to shine through. This exhibition showed the Caroline that I fell in love with, who's been missing now for many months. No, even better, it shows a more mature, blossoming Caroline who's better than ever.I second those who think that this is her best program yet.
I don't know if the marked difference between her competition and exhibition skates reflect more on her mental attitude toward competitions or on CoP. CoP demands skaters to fill their skating with complicated transitions and excruciatingly contorted straight-line footwork sequences that are never straight-line anymore. For someone like Caroline, who obviously has the kind of delicate physique that befit subtle artistic expressions better than explosive power, CoP doesn't give her the breathing room to build up speed and skate with fluidity. Someone else remarked earlier that she simply doesn't get a chance to do many x-overs in her programs. In contrast, she has the luxury of using them in exhibitions to build up speed and express soft, lyrical parts, so it is both faster and more musical. I think CoP, with its mathematical precision and strong biases in terms of what constitutes "good execution", really kills diversity in skating, not only in terms of spins, spirals, and footwork sequences individually, but skating styles in general.
As always, I think if and when Caroline retires from competition, she will be in hot demand for show skating, and may even help revive the struggling industry in the U.S. Sometimes it's hard to remember what beautiful, innovative skating looks like, since there's so little show-skating on TV now, and CoP strait-jacketing skaters all into the same mold.![]()
