2025 JGP Baku Free Dance

I see, Eliska is taking a leaf out of Miss Mrazkova's book :D I reiterate, I love the look of long ("heavy") skirts in Ice Dance, though they also make me nervous. This is a bit shorter than the length Katarina tends to choose, so a little less scary, imo.

GO Eliska work that skirt - always cool to watch it in the twizzles. Her and Filip have put in time on their basics and look slower but better matched with this tango. They are becoming better dancers.

Based on the levels called today and yesterday, this tech panel is definitely more generous than past JGP panels, but consistently so, so it's fine from a placement perspective.

Really nice skate by Nelly and Artyom, big PB for them. If Grigorii doesn't get released before the end of the season, the fight for the Jr Worlds spots will be tough.

Enjoyed Nelly Elisa HEMCKE / Artyom SLADKOV's dance even if I am not a huge Titanic fan. Like Artyom's expressiveness and partnering skills.

Resurface again?
Warm-Up Group 3
11 Sofiia BEZNOSIKOVA / Max LELEU BEL
12 Jane CALHOUN / Mark ZHELTYSHEV USA
13 Summer HOMICK / Nicholas BUELOW CAN
14 Zoe BIANCHI / Daniel BASILE ITA
15 Ambre PERRIER GIANESINI / Samuel BLANC KLAPERMAN FRA

Newcomers Jane CALHOUN / Mark ZHELTYSHEV USA skate to The Hunger Games. Jane Calhoun (12th in Junior at the U.S. Ice Dance Final with Daniil Veselukhin). Coach Anzhelika Krylova told that dancing couple Eva Plesovskikh/Mark Zheltyshev withdrew from the stage of the Kazan Junior Grand Prix due to an injury of their partner. Somehow both teams broke up and they formed a new team in June 2025. They are now coached by Elena Dostatni.

It looks like they got her the one ice dancer tall enough for her - and it worked out, they seem to be connected.
I think there was a fair bit of luck involved here. Nelly was without partner for a year, and when Artyom and his then partner split, they probably decided to try out together as they are from the same state (Nordrhein-Westfalen) and neither would have to move far (both were based in Düsseldorf at that point). That they were such a great match physically and otherwise was a lucky coincidence.

I see what you did there. ;)

Yeah, I was proud of think up that!

But, although I worded it in a jokey manner, there was a serious point. He near went headlong stepping over the step onto solid ground when leaving the ice at the gate.

That is one of the reasons I do not like the walk-on presentations that we had at last season's Worlds and this season's Olympic Qualifying Event. Imagine if somebody tripped doing the walk-on and hurt themselves, and weren't able to do their programme.

No, better to take no chances and present the skaters to the audience in the middle of the ice.
