2026 World Figure Skating Championships | Free Dance

DUH. :bang:

Of course he was! And psychotic murders are creepy as h*%# so it makes perfect sense. Thanks for setting me straight.
huh? That post wasn't directed at you, it was directed at another poster who questioned it and criticized Pono for doing his job.

It's fine! Someone said they were creeped out by Anthony's facial expressions. Then I made a comment about his parents' super-dramatic performances.

I think it was then that you reminded us that Anthony was portraying a psychotic murderer. In that context, the contorted faces were appropriate and I had completely forgotten about that. So I appreciated your perspective.

So again, all good! Friends? I hope? 🤞🏻 😉

That was mesemerising. A total class of their own. I thought they were brilliant in the RD yesterday too. I know they are not liked here but what incredible skaters.
Thank you for saying that! I can't believe all the hate towards them here. I have been enthralled since I first saw P/C back in 2015 I think it was. And if anything, I think perhaps this new pairing is even better, though no shade intended to Gabby. I cannot understand how anyone can watch a skate like this free program and not see that they are truly in a class by themselves, as you say. It is simply magical~

Being far beyond the others always irritates those "others" and people whom they rooted for them. I am sure that their exceptional qualities are seen by everybody (even if hated by some, because it takes some dreams away from them). It is a normal, human being.

Then Anthony was doing his job. He was portraying a psychotic murderer in that FD, so creeping people out was success.
Also, Christina has had extensive work in the past with Hubbell on the ice to improve her skating and persona on the ice, so again a success.
I can understand that (because they had the same choreography all year long), but actually I liked the result a lot.

- Overall it was a great competition by its excitement. Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron was head and shoulders above everybody else, almost annoying, because they put the other competitors into the "second tier". It must be a difficult feeling.
The coaching teams of different couples are fantastic, because they did their best to emphasize the strength and benefit to all the couples and hide the obvious shortcomings really well. When a couple has almost "no limits", than they created a timeless masterpiece. Great job!
- The emotional an techical impact of the Smart/Dieck free made it iconic. It makes almost difficult to understand the level of their other programs in the past (their recent Rhytm dance is included). If they capable to perform a piece of art like this, GIVE them more of THAT, they can do it and it can put them on the podium!
- Gilles/Poirier is one of my sentimental favourites, being unrightfully underestimated and underscored for years. Their Rhytm dance was great, but the free was not (also 7 points!! less than their other program at the Olympics and rightfully so). It had not even the same impact on me, than it did 2 years ago. They seemed to be there to get their well-deserved new medal before retiring without any serious dedication. It was hardly in the top 5 Freedance. Their placement I am agree with.
- Zhingas/Kolesnyk is the future, that already arrived, and was my tip to get the Bronze before the competition. Their athleticism, freshness, attack and techical ability makes them the almost only team, whom they can challenge the French one (if they continued skating after this season). A lot to like on them. They are excellent , having also the "star quality X factor". Nevertheless the judges seemed to work a "bit too hard" mathematically (taking 2 points away from their rivals to provide a 0,2 point advantage) to put them on the podium, even if the result was right based on what I've seen...
- Fear/Gibson are the most entertaining show-skaters, crowd pleasers, but not a medal worthy competitors in most cases. The sport and shows need them, but cannot be permanently awarded because of their techical shortcomings. Nevertheless I love them to watch. Don't send them more to the gym, because it starts to take some negative effects on them, being short in bodysculpture and heavier in their movement!
- Reed/ Ambrulevicius. Great coaching maximalized their capacity and they executed and "sold" it well.
_ Lopareva/Brissaud. They have a personality, their own style and they are very good at it. Their future depends on the fact if they can be No1 or No2 French team in the next seasons. The material, talent, and possibility are there.
- Carreira/Ponomarenko. Dedicated "workers", but limited talents. They improved in many aspects. In some years can get close to the Podium, but cannot see how they can be somebody's "favourite". We will see that...
And finally the relative disappointments caused by different reasons:
- Lajoie/Lagha. They seemed to be the couple to be the future of the discipline some years ago. They are VERY good, but it is less and less visible. I think that the only IAM team with the wrong packaging. It is time that somebody seriously take care of their program and package individually, because in their young age they started to stagnate and loosing ground. It would be a big waste. ALARM needs to be used!
- Davis/Smolkin. Even with all the PR, changing country, going to the "best coaching" team they cannot improve. They are simply and remained to be a good average couple. I cannot see, what can make a good change. Maybe Zhulin (??).

It was a good season, and I entirely enjoyed following it. THANK YOU!

World medal loss 'formally challenged' as Lewis Gibson and Lilah Fear miss out due to 'illegal' lift

By Jane K Bradley

British Ice Skating is “formally challenging” the results of the World Figure Skating Championships ice dance final as Scottish skater Lewis Gibson and partner Lilah Fear missed out on a second World medal by less than a fifth of a point - after having two points deducted for an “illegal element”.

The skating federation said it would raise its concerns over the “incorrect” penalty with the International Skating Union (ISU) and also said it would call for a “full and independent review of the officiating process”.

Other skaters raised concerns over the judging process in the ice dance event earlier this season.

The article also confirms that Lilah and Lewis are planning to compete for another quad - I'm very happy to hear this.

TBH... I was shocked that F/G were dinged for a move they have done all year....

but at the same time, I like Emilea and Vadym's skating better so I am not unhappy about the result :)
Yeah it is strange they got dinged for the opening lift because I remember thinking at the Olympics that his arms didn’t look as bent as they should have been and I don’t think they were dinged there.

It was clear that something was off with the Twizzles and with that first lift. I immediately thought that there will be a loss of level (time/position) - it was more obvious to me than at the Olys ... anyways, to say "oh we were not penalized last time when we broke the rules" does not justify to do it per se ... this lift is risky ... and now it happened. The yellow colour in the score box is great ... and most of the times it can be predicted correctly while watching. A slight wobble ... and there it is. F/G had a lot of yellow poppoing up right after finishing elements, contrary to other pairs - so a lot of review in slow motion followed and because of that it took so long until the scores came up, which is never a good thing. I was not surprised that the German commentator overlooked the yellow in that case (he had an eye on it ... but was so happy with this particular skate that he forgot). I am surprised that the coaches did not notice that and informed their skaters accordingly; I mean issues that can be spotted in real time (although it's impossible to decide exactly how costly they are in real time for a normal viewer) cannot escape ecperienced coaches ... and problably the skaters themselves. L/B did not look happy and this is exactly what's in the protocol. Of course there are coaches who are very happy that their skaters get away with poor technique and do nothing about it ... I remember the 2001 Nations Cup in Gelsenkirchen - the jumps of Sarah Hughes were not met with a lot of applause by other skaters who sat near the rink ... and you could clearly see why that happened. Some traces of her extra circles were right in front of me on the ice.

I just loved Christina and Isabeau and their fun Christabeau social media posts from the Olympics, and I just find Christina delightful in her public persona, so I actually kind of hate that I don't like C/P's skating more -- but since I uber adore Emi and Vadym, at least I don't have conflicts on who to root for!!
I really like their skating. I think they are just late bloomers like Lala - they are both quality teams and are still figuring out who they are and how they want to skate. I’m hoping both them and Lala will make leaps and bounds the next quad. On a side note - I met Christina and Anthony at the Olympics at a hockey game. I asked for a photo and they were both so sweet 🥰 Christina is sooo pretty. I met Nathalie Taschler and Juulia and Mathias, who were also so sweet. Juulia and Natalie were so pretty too and so tiny! It’s crazy to me that ppl comment on Natalie’s weight because she is tiny in person.

Yeah I actually think I might like this partnership better than Gabi and Guillaume eventhough I loved them too. I was always a huge fan of Laurence’s and felt bad she didn’t have a better partner because she was the strongest female ice dancer in the field. I hope if they stay on that they push towards different styles of FDs and don’t just stay in Guillaume’s safe zone because that will be really boring and it’s what turned me off P/C in their later years. Laurence is capable of skating so many different styles so they need to play to her strengths too.

Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson deserve the bronze medal here.
I don't understand why suddenly they get a deduction for an illegal lift and that all season the technical panel didn't call it.
It's a shame for them. I want to pray for them

I don't care for that aspect of it, either -- the not getting dinged til now, BUT the lift sequence looked a little different to me this performance ?? and if that is correct, did it cross the threshold in some way?

However, this whole season has had those weird moments, like Piper's Base level call on the GP and others, and again it's the lack of consistency and having the calls pop up out of nowhere that gives the appearance that competitions are capricious or random -- or rigged. Not saying that it was, but I am saying that it looks that way, especially to a casual audience.

I think returning to a more objective scoring in the rhythm dance next season with some form of the waltz will help define the very good from the elite. Right now it seems that there is too much influence from countries, coaches and just the whole taste in music, costumes, looks going into judges' scores. I look forward to a more objective approach to analyzing these icee dancers, at least in the rhythm.
