Breakout Junior star of the 2025-26 JGP season?

Why oh why did Hana Bath and Elizabeth Dibbern have to get such a tough week?!? Baku is stacked!!

Replying to my own comment....Elisabeth Dibbern was at THIS week, Baku, instead. She's definitely the breakout star from a non-skating nation!! I never expected her to do so well.

To be honest, I don't think that such thing as "a breakout star from a non-skating nation" exists in nature. There are skaters who a are pioneers of this sport in their respective countries but they as a rule are not a star class, especially as juniors.

Elizabeth Dibbern certainly made her name this season but Switzerland is not a non-skating nation. It has significant skating traditions (think about Denise Bielman) and medalists in the past and currently it is a nation which has 2 entries in at least 2 categories in most major competitions. Swiss junior girls have finished in the top 10 in almost every JGP they participated. You can't pull a successful junior out of nothing.

Alica Lengyelova may look like a star from a non-skating nation but this impression is also wrong. Slovakia has traditions (think about Ondrej Nepela) and it has had JGP finalists and JWC medalists recently. There is no doubt that Slovakia is on the way to regain its old skating nation's glory!

Also, I don't understand why breakout stars from big skating nations should not be celebrated. It is much harder to break through if there is fierce competition. So, it is actually more surprising to discover a new breakout star from a big skating nation with established team leaders. And I personally like surprises.

I overall love the trends in this JGP with new medalists and results throwing out predictions out of the window, unfamiliar flags flying, and lovely programs. Most events had strong last groups. I am hoping that next year we'll see tectonic shifts in the final comp in singles as well and I am looking forward to the stars shine bright for those who didn’t make it by a sliver this year.

Surely Alica LENGYELOVA (SVK) now falls into this category.

Alica won the SP and ultimately the Silver Medal at the Junior GP in Gdańsk last week in only her second season in Juniors. And she is currently leading Junior Ladies at the Budapest Trophy by 7.97 points going into tomorrow's FS.

Older sister Olivia is currently in 5th position in Budapest, 10.29 points behind Alica, but only 2.32 points behind 2nd position. So they could get a 1-2.

I have liked the Lengyelova sisters for years, and have often been tempted to adopt them. But I have a lot of kids already, and felt taking on two more would mean I wouldn't be able to give them all the attention they deserve. I was secretly hoping that the Lengyelova sisters would bring out the paternal instinct in a certain member from Slovakia, and that he would adopt them. After all, somebody in their home country would probably hear more news than I would.

But, I have reason to suspect that some of my existing kids will be retiring at the end of this season. And now that Alica is coming to the forefront, I can't resist her and Olivia any longer.

So, let this be the formal announcement of my intention to adopt the Lengyelova sisters.

Even if I can't tell them apart when I see them... (They are so alike! )

Just to tie up loose ends, for those that are wondering, it did not finish up as a Lengyelova 1-2 at the Budapest Trophy. But they got the next best thing - a 1-3. And they did get the 1-2 in the Free Skate.
