No, sorry. This is not a high school essay to be graded taking age into account. This is an Olympic program, clearly aiming to stun the viewers with the depth and wisdom of the "voice" which is just a bunch of so-so quotes put together making no sense. Why pretend otherwise and admire something which - frankly - is rather stupid?How many of us took a stab at main stream philosophy at his age?
Knowing yourself is also knowing your limitations, when you're ready and when you're not.

That's because you are not a figure skater who becomes nothing the moment he steps down from the top step of the podium. And, best case scenario, does it again, and again, and again.
To be fair, he does not have an accent. I saw his interview in Russian 2 years ago. He does sometimes search for right words, but no accent. But he is a 100% "American boy", no doubts. Just like Natha Chen, who probably speaks Mandarin to his family.
He reminds me my own New York-born son. We laugh: he speaks limited Russian with no accent, I speak fluent English with heavy accent.

Yeah, he was clearly also taught to point to Nathan as his inspiration and not to Yuzuru anymore, lol.
More PR for USFS, and easier to digest for his fans, I guess.
Which is even more funny as Yuzuru is an obvious inspiration for this "voice"- but just do not make him responsible for the quality of Ilia's "take" on "philosophy", lol.

Sorry but nobody can convince me that a sentence "You are something but not nothing" is poetic and makes any sense. It makes me laugh and can't help it.

Maybe he's reflecting on the fact that he's dominating and driving the sport in his direction, and yet still has a pack on online Chihuahuas yapping about anything they can come up with to diminish his achievements.

Whatever he was trying to say it would have benefited greatly if he said it in a more coherent way..... "You are something but not nothing"? Really? I think you do not have to study philosophy or be a sage to see that this sentence just makes no logical sense. It's kind of weird he did not notice it or no one from his team told him that. So they just brought it on him themselves. And, yes, people will laugh, just because it is funny. And if he or his team think of the public as "yapping Chihuahuas", well, good luck with growing that ego and dealing with it at full growth.... one sensitivity training may not be enough.
Honestly, that's hardly any news. We've already known for at least 3 years now that he'll get the OGM at Milan (actually, 2 OGM for team and individual) no matter what, as long of course as he does enter the event. And he will also win every event in between, as he has for the same past 3 years, just by taking part in them. I've seen people here praising how calm Illia is before any of his skates, but to be frank I see little merit in this, why shouldn't he be calm when he knows for a fact the political push he has and that as so, he will win no matter what?
Someone new might come up next cycle to swap the favors of the ISU, but so far there is nothing new under the sun. And this, plus the fact that any slightly potential competitor is either injured, struggling or a hopeless mental case, does throw a huge weight to the (noncompetitive) Men's competition in general and especially at the Olympics, it's simply unexciting when you just know the result beforehand.

The whole poem is ridiculous. Very much the stuff you hear in freshman year high school English classes from the "sensitive" kids. It does make me laugh everytime..
Anyway, it's not that serious. If you like it fine, if you don't also fine. People's tastes differ. I hate voiceovers of any kind. If you like them, great! Enjoy his program just don't expect others to have the same view.
Ilya 's not actually winning anything because of his "artistry" anyway. He's winning because he lands difficult jumps and he has good technique on those jumps. Good for him. He deserves every point in TES he gets. Not my type of skater, but isn't it great there is someone who suits everyone's preferences! 90% chance he wins gold
next year. I'm sure he's not so concerned if some of us aren't impressed with his poetry.

Oh, I don't think his team thinks that. But I'm starting to. "I don't like his hair. I don't like his costume. He deserves 5's in PCS. He's a straight white boy. He's speaking Russian, so not a real American." Jesus, it's just exhausting, and I'm not even in love with the programs this year.
