2025 Cup of China Rhythm Dance

Right, that's me for the Cup Of China today. Now to catch up on some of the MotoGP practices I missed overnight, and then to the Gordion Cup, where my baby girl is leading the Senior Ladies after yesterday's SP by quite a large margin.

All the best to all the girls, cacti, and Pairs partnerships still to come.

The 120 bpm requirement seems to be an excuse for speeding up way too many songs that should not be sped up. I am not into all of the remix elements in some of these numbers because the songs no longer sound 90s.

Can't believe we aren't seeing any Chemical Brothers numbers.

Chock and Bates today looked really slow comapring to Z/K or D/LM. I think it's smart choice of music for them, makes them look mature but not "old" (Italians could take a lesson) but it's a bit boring, nothing really suprising in this program.
I am struggling to watch the RD and not think "Yep, this would have been a better choice for the Italians. As would this. And this. Oh yeah, even this."

Yeah, this was definitely a first pancake level of performance for C/B. It’s the first competition of the season for them and it really shows.

Is their music allowed due to rights?

It was pretty underwhelming too to see Madi and Evan basically copy and paste same maneuvers into this year’s RD that they did in last year’s RD. Where is the originality?

They have the best skating skills of , honestly, probably everyone here but that's not going to save them with that mistake.
Just caught up. Sorry to see the falls with S/D, and G/P especially, a big surprise and too bad, as I really loved their program and agree they are a cut above the rest in skills. I am still rooting for them, they are just amazing, so lets see how they do in FD. Z/K were great and C/B nailed it for the most part. This field was fun to watch. On to the Free. Can't wait.

I am still struck by the speed, attack, and total dance (club) vibes put out by Z/K and D/LM. Also liked L/B ( they just need to believe in themselves some more on the ice while skating).

C/B give a lot of presentation face (well, mostly Madison) when you see them live and the other US teams haven't always been able to quite usurp that in the past (although C/P did). C/B are slower but it's "face, face, face" and it's the command of it all they get rewarded for.

And as far as music rights, hard to say what's going on unless one is doing the research for a team.

Going backwards with music clearances (is. not having an easy solution where an artist gets compensated and it's affordable for skaters) is keeping skating (and the artists they skate to) out of sight with audiences. Which means out of mind. Lessening the sport's popularity even more.

Nobody is really coping well with this RD theme this year. It comes across as a drag. But kudos to Zin/Kol for understanding the assignment. But is their middle song up-tempo enough? I think I just don't like Olivia and Tim's RD theme. The dance lacks pep and difficulty. Kudos to all for trying. I am glad I didn't stay up to watch it live.

Thrilled, ecstatic, and over the moon for Zingas/Kolesnik! I just love them! I like the program, even with the hyper arm choreo. So thrilled to see them getting rewarded score wise. Gr/Pa -- oh, my, what a great program, and I adore this team as well -- that fall from Michael was just so, so costly.

I enjoyed Lopareva/Brissaud a lot. Thought Smart/Dieck looked a bit tentative, maybe a touch slow for them, and just not really selling it yet. C/B OTOH definitely selling it as always, but they looked to be crawling over the ice and to not have much ice coverage at all. But of course you can't always tell on TV. And they always grow their programs as the season progresses.
